Isn't it only for the Irish?

Never heard of anyone doing it while I lived in England...

We did every year. My Mum would make a stack of pancakes and we would have stuff like Golden Syrup, lemon juice, sugar ,jam and the such on them.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Most people 'celebrate' it in England too. Just go into any supermarket on that day and there will be special deals on mixes, lemons and sugar!

Lemon and sugar topper here too. Couldn't do the syrup thing. Way too sweet. :dead:

Thanks for the tip off. I had totally forgotten.

And on that note, please remember that Mother's Day is on March 2nd in the UK. I'm planning to send my stuff out soon. You haven't got a card? Make one or buy one at a site like Etsy. When the US Mother's Day comes around buy one and save it for next year.

Everyone I know in England has always done it. From school to adulthood, Pancake Day was a highlight of the year. Not to mention the extensive advertising on ITV for Jif Lemons. :)

Becca ~ Loved the video, now I just wants some pancakes with Jif Lemon (don't forget the pancakes on Jif Lemon Day!) and some sugar. Yummy.

Spuds. And Guinness.

The Irish Sea doesn't separate everything, you know..... :P

I've been to both countries, thanks for the geography lesson.

And as I said no one I knew (when I LIVED in England) did it. VJ Sheesh.

Don't forget the pancakes on Jif lemon day

My mum always did pancakes on that day when my siblings and I were growing up. Haven't had them on that day in years though.

I always celebrate pancake day/Shrove Tuesday!

My housemate and I did a step-by-step guide to making pancakes last year for some friends online:

For anyone who can't use youtube at work! :P

It's next Tuesday, isn't it? Mm, I think my favourite pancakes are chocolate filled ones - I have such a sweet tooth!

I usually make american style pancakes now for my OH. Hmmmm dilemma... I kind of want to make the traditional pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. Maybe I'll make 2 batches. The american ones are really good - all light and fluffy.
