I'm having my interview and being stuck on my own in London on pancake day.

Anyone know anywhere to go get pancakes in central London?

I dunno, but I wish you luck with your quest. Or you can just wait til you get home and make some. You don't have to have them just on Shrove Tuesday, not really.

Would they have them in pubs that day? I bet they would. Or a chip shop?

The canteen at my husband's work used to have them. Maybe somebody at the consulate will let you into their canteen.......... :o

Wouldn't that be a stitch? You'd get to hear everybody grumbling over lunch about the crazy visa applicants in the office that day...

My family is somewhere around half Polish, so instead of Pancake Day, we've always celebrated Paczki (pronounced: PUUN-Shkee) Day. Those are glazed donuts filled with strawberry or raspberry jelly-type stuff, theoretically to represent the blood of Christ, but I think more just because they taste good. :)

My fiance is not religious and has never mentioned Pancake Day, so perhaps I can convince him that Paczkis are better. :)

05-13-06 - Met at Neo Nightclub in Chicago through a mutual friend.

05-24-06 - First formal date, followed immediately by weekend spent together.

09-07-06 - First trip to the UK. Sick most of the time, loved it anyway. :)

11-21-06 - Alasdair comes in for Thanksgiving.

03-28-07 - Second trip to the UK, flew out to Northern Ireland to meet the parents.

06-12-07 - Alasdair's next visit, we go everywhere and do everything. :)

06-17-07 - We become formally engaged, though it'd been in discussion for months.

07-27-07 - I-129F packet sent to Nebraska Service Center.

07-30-07 - I-129F packet received at Nebraska Service Center and forwarded to California.

08-24-07 - Check finally cashed!

08-25-07 - NOA1 Received!

01-30-08 - NOA2 Finally Received!

03-18-08 - Packet 3 Received!

04-03-08 - Packet 4 Received!

Paczkis rule!

Here they are powdered sugar coated and we have apple, lemon or (my favourite) good old plain along with the varieties you mentioned. We have a large Polish area that churns them out like crazy every year.

I didn't even think I wanted a pancake, and now all I can think about is pancakes... Can't stand American ones (never could, not even as a kid) but I loooove British (or Irish or Australian or French or whatever!) ones. There used to be this crepe cart up in Hampstead (may still be there) I loved to go to get ones with ham and cheese...

Ham+cheese+pancake = a taste of divinity :innocent:
