um yeah, a vaccine that totally prevents all cervical caner-and is advertised as such, dream on. however a vaccine that can significantly reduce you getting the 4 most common and most likely to cause cancer forms of the virus, which is what Gardicel does, probably worth the chance of lesions. Cervical cancer isn't very deadly anymore because it's usually caught early (the PAP part of an annual exam). However the treatment for cervical cancer is often removal of the uterus. Is the very slight possibility that you may have some reaction to the vaccine worth the risk of not being able to have children? that's a personal choice.

I think it should be a matter of personal choice. If the US government does not force its citizens to have this vaccine, I do not see why they are entitled to force this vaccine on potential citizens.

As for myself, any vaccine I take at this point may irrevocably damage my health, so if they insisted, I couldn't go to the US.

it doesn't really bother me that i have to get it. I mean I thought about getting it anyways. Of course there are risks with any vaccination - even the flu shot! But the benefits outweigh the risks in my opinion.

And, honestly if getting a vaccine is what it takes to be with my bf, then so be it! It could be worse!

There are so many facts and statistics out there, and a lot of them differ. I've read many things lately and it's hard to know what to trust sometimes. I suppose the issue I have the most with this vaccine is that they're marketing it as a prevention to cervical cancer when that's not actually the case. The vaccine itself says that it MAY protect, there is no guarantee and in some cases if you have a strain of HPV, the vaccine can cause lesions. That being said, if they want to market it as an HPV vaccine, then it should be marketed to EVERYONE, men and women alike, not just women. Men have HPV too, and more often than not spread the disease without realizing it.

As a side note, not to say that cervical cancer isn't something we should be concerned about, it is on a downward trend though, which is good. I guess that's why I'm less concerned about the cancer and much more concerned about the side effects of the vaccine. Maybe if the vaccine guaranteed prevention of cervical cancer then I'd be more inclined, although I doubt it. Having someone put live, mutated virus inside me? No thanks!

You know that most vaccines (flu shot for example) are weakened forms of the virus right? That's what vaccines are..

Just to clarify, the lesions that are a possible side effect of the Gardisil vaccine are at the injection site, not HPV in the cervix. So basically the same possibility of infection because of a shot as any other shot.

Not to be rude, but the US government can and does have a right to dictate who they let in the country...that is why past/current drug use et. al. are not tolerated, for example. Even though the US can't 'force' this on its citizens, it does not mean that it cannot or will not incorporate it into the immigration process.

I do not think you are comparing apples to apples here. Being drug-free is something that is expected of USCs, even if they fail to adhere to it. Thus, they are punished. It seems fair to expect the same thing from your immigrants that you expect from your USCs.

However, USCs are not expected to have this vaccine.

Having a dangerous and controversial vaccine that is being successfully blocked so far from being mandatory for USCs be a requirement for new immigrants seems reckless and in disregard for their health and well-being.

At this time, USA citizens are not, but many states are trying to legislate it. Here in VA that legislation has been delayed.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I guess the point I was trying to make is that the US does not see citizens and 'intending immigrants' as equal apples either.....so there's the problem with saying that because it(the US) does not expect it of its citizens, it should not expect it of its immigrants either. Fairness is not something that characterizes the immigration process....IMO.

Hi

I just had my medical today in London and heard about the HPV requirement for the first time. I am turning 26 March 8th so I will be in the age range required. My visa interview is March 12th so I had hoped the asjust my status around the end of May.

Do I have to have had all 3 doses before I adjust. The nurse at the doctors surgery said if i had had the first one it shouldn't be a problem, but i don't think she really knew.

Please can someone tell me if I need all 3 before I adjust? And does it have to take 6 months to have all 3?

Thanks!

I think the delay is either 2 or 3 months between shots, and I can't tell you about approval pending the other shots, but getting the 1st one before your interview is a good idea, and then maybe purchase the others so you can prove you are ready to get the others when the timeline allows.

You may also be able to get a waiver stating that you have 1 of the 3 and will get the others in time. Hope that helps!

This isn't referring to anyone, I'm just posting!! But people really should make sure they know all the info on HPV and getting this info from authoritative websites and professionals. They say approx 50% of women could be affected with HPV sometime during their life!! One can pass this to a partner, and even to their baby, it is a very series disease. Yes HPV may turn out to be nothing serious, but one definetly should be getting things checked and "play" safe! Maybe because I'm a RN student friends open up to me, but 1 friend I know has HPV, and she has only had 1 partner! if your sexually active, ensure your getting a pap smear yearly (some say every other year, depending on age, etc etc)

And again not pointing at anyone, just what I have seen during clinical and what other students have told me--What the spouse says in front of their other spouse during a medical interview, isn't always the same what they tell you when they are alone with the DR or nurse, if you get my drift! Many spouses sort of keep somethings to themselves, which the other spouse has no clue of, especially when it comes to being sexually active or pregnancy! having HPV doesn't make you any less of a person, or "dirty" just means that the health professionals have to keep an eye on you a bit more, and realize it can be passed on to other people, so play safe!! As well I'm not saying this "shot" is the answer either, has I have not read much about it. Not trying to scare anyone, or change their mind aboys getting the drug, just make sure your making a well informed decision, not going off crummy websites, blogs, or your aunt betty who is doing hard time in the prison!! Cheers

I just had to make an input here.. I am still very happy (for the first time) that I am "old" and don't need to take this drug.

There are 4000 women in the US who develops cancer from HPV. Now those 4000 - I feel for them... but what about the rest - the millions that probably have some of the HVP types in their system... I really don't think there is a threat great enough to take this vaccine. If we where talking about breast cancer or anything else that effect so many people then the story would be different. HPV vaccine is live cancer cells injected into you... just the thought of that would scare me off.. specially when we haven't seen one single person develop anitbodies for cancer by them selves... So injecting cancer cells into someone knowing that the body would not be able to fight it?!?! What the *#?¤K!

Just needed to say this.. nothing personal.. I am just angry with the Vaccine people trying to make money by scaring people about cancer.

Lots of LOVE from ME!!
