They were trying to make ity a state law here in VA for girls in a certain range, but I do belive it just got delayed.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Back from my medical.

First of all, it may be a result of the limits of internet, but I felt ganged-up on for reporting something that was relevant to this process. Maybe it was shoot the messenger, but I was a bit hurt by how eager people were to jump all over me and my 'source'.

Consider that my 'source' IS the physician cleared by US immgration to give us this information.

A few things:

1. The office had very short notice themselves, they were informed of new vaccination requirements (not just Gardasil, that was what was relevant to me) on Jan 1st. They have prepared a notice of the changes to pass on to their paitents. The fact that this info is not on an official website yet means nothing; we've seen what the track record is for how fast they update those sites with new info (i.e. the xpresspost mailer)

2. The Drs. office does NOT SELL you the vaccine. They are unable to do so. They are not trying to 'bilk anyone out of any more money' as was suggested, because they are not able to collect any money for the vaccine. They write you a prescription for it and it is your responsibilty to get it filled at a pharmacy somewhere. They will administer it for you, but they will not provide/sell it to you. For the record, neither the secretary or the Doctor were happy about the sudden notice or the fact they seem to be making it harder and more expensive for people to get through.

3. If you are so fired up at the outrageousness of me posting a head's up on here without having a letter signed in the blood of a USCIS adminsitrator confirming this information, I'll be sure never to offend you again by passing on any information that might warn and/or help other people going through this process and suggesting that you follow it up with your own sources, i.e. the panel physician you have your medical with. Heaven forfend.

I apologize that you felt ganged up on. I for one, never meant to make you feel that way. I wasn't reacting to your statement so much as having to possibly have a vaccine that I don't want because I'll be 3 months away from my 27th birthday. So, I apologize but thank you for the information.

I'm sorry but there is no way in h*ll I'm getting this vaccine.

I believe that this would have been VERY well publicized that this vaccine was being added to the list of mandatory vaccine's needed for immigration to the United States, not just thrown in there without warning whatsoever.

It takes 6 months total to get...3 different shots at over 100 dollars a shot. This adds a HUGE time onto the already painfully long immigration process and I really don't think it's a safe vaccine WHATSOEVER. It's dangerous and still being tested on...NO THANK YOU!

I'm sorry Galateia if you felt attacked, that was not the intention I'm sure of any of the people who replied to this thread. If I have to get this vaccine to immigrate to the States, forget it. It's NOT HAPPENING.

Hey, I'm with you on this vaccine being something I'd stay far, far away from personally. If I had known about this last year when I was still 26, I would have delayed the process until I was safely out of age range. I haven't been vaccinated since I was a toddler because the vaccines really tore my system up, all I've had since is tetanus shots when I've cut myself, etc. Vaccines are not the fuzzy safe foolproof no-brainers that we are encouraged to view them as.

It's not just this vaccine, the Doctor said there are vaccines that have been added for other age ranges too.

As far as it being publicized, I would urge you to contact your panel physician (which everyone should be doing about this anyway!) and get this clarified ASAP. Also, if they say you DON'T need it, or whichever new addition would apply to you, get it in writing, so your behind is covered. Why take the risk? Find out from your physician, they are the ones clearing you medically. It's their job to know these things and advise you accordingly.

And yes, this would add a retarded amount of delays and expense and possibly rock-and-hard-place situations, which is why I posted it as soon as I found out, so that people wouldn't get caught unawares and screwed over.

I'll be 27 on May 19th. If need be I'll push back my interview. I will probably get my NOA2 around April anyway...I'll just delay things until after the 19th. Insane.

I'll check it out.

Thanks hon.

If it turns out that you are expected to have it, I'd also ask if you are going to cross the border after your 27th birthday, can they waive the requirement since you'll be out of range before you enter the US and file for AOS?

How long is the current turn around time from reception of packet 3 by MTL to the interview date? If you get your packet 3 in Feb (or is your sig out of date?) it will only be 4 months until your birthday so you can drag your heels a little sending that in if you think you're going get a fast interview date.

It wouldn't hurt to email MTL either asking for confirmation that the required vaccinations list changed/expanded as of Jan 1st as Dr. Laity, a physician from the list MTL provided, has notified filers of such as per info from the US Consul. If they say no, print out the email and bring it with you; that way your behind is again covered.

Forewarned is forearmed, eh?

We only sent our petition in December. We got our NOA1 on December 14th so I'm not anticipating NOA2 for a few more months.

I'm pretty far from my medical and interview. I think I'll be in the clear but thanks hon. I appreciate it greatly.

Galateia, thanks for getting back to us here. Sorry if you felt you were ganged up on. Your post saying it was now required was such a shock I think! This isn't for my benefit, (since I'm 50, and I'm already here... ;) ), but I was wondering how it's going to be done? My understanding was that it was over a period of time, like 3 shots over 9 mos? Maybe I'm wrong? Also, you mentioned other new vaccinations as well? What ones are those? Any information you can provide is great.

One thing I wanted to mention...I don't know if you were around then or not Galateia, is there was this whole TB test thing that came out not that long ago. Some people had to go get a skin test, their x-rays weren't enough, around the time of the TB scare with that American man who travelled when he wasn't supposed to. I thnk some people on here were directed at their AOS interview, or got a letter to have one done. We were going through AOS around the same time, and we never received any written information about it, nor did our AOS interviewer mention it either. Maybe we got away lucky, I don't know.

It's crazy when one office has different sets of rules or interprets them differently!

Anyway, thanks again for the heads up...any further information you get would be helpful.

I would like to confirm that this is in fact a required vaccine. My fiance just went to his medical today and asked, as a favor to someone else, about the Gardisil vaccine being required. Look at this thread, very end of the first post.

That's really lame. I don't want Lindsay to have to get this vaccine. Seriously, we both know that we're clean, so why does she need it?

I posted a thread about it here

It has been confirmed that being a fiance, she won't need it for her medical...but probably for AOS.

I'll be 27 by that time so I don't have to worry..but for those women who are under 26....:( I really really hope there is an opt out!!!!
