Why are Clowns Scary?

Lai's niece who lives in Vancouver is scared of clowns and porcelain dolls. She's in her early 20s, btw.

Porcelain dolls ARE scary.

Porcelain dolls aren't as much scary as they are creepy. I have serious issues with things that look alive. I get completely messed up by animal mounts. If it's just the head, I'm okay. If the entire body of the animal is mounted, they creep me out. I actually had a panic attack in a museum in Canada because of the display of local animals.

Porcelain dolls are the same thing. They always make me feel like there is someone in a room with me. I also saw a mechanical dummy that would turn his head on occasion one night. The owner purchased the creepy thing because she didn't like the idea of her player piano playing itself, so she introduced a manequin.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

I wouldn't say I have a clown phobia but I definitely strongly dislike them.

My grandparents used to have a small portrait of a clown hanging in the upstairs landing of their old house. The background was black and the clown's face was a hideous melding of bright primary colours painted onto a clay relief. When I would stay the night I found it so immensely creepy at night-time that I couldn't step foot outside of my bedroom. I'm no longer scared of clowns but I'm unnerved by them, and stories of John Wayne Gacy and all of the clown horror movies that exist certainly haven't helped!

Incidentally, several years later I eventually plucked up the courage to tell my grandparents how scary I found the clown portrait. My grandmother was really surprised; she said my aunt had painted it at school and that they had it on display because they thought it was so lovely.

My dad is a Shriner clown. I don't think he's scary.

But, usually when I think of clowns, I think of "It" or "Poltergeist". How can you not hate clows after seeing either of those?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Now THAT'S creepy. How about a clown porcelain doll? Just $16.99 on e-bay.

I'm scared of Insane Clown Posse.

and Juggalos.

It's infinitely frightening that people would listen to that #######, dress like that, and refer to themselves as "Juggalos".

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

OMG I just watched that clip and I had a doll just like that. I remember waking up one morning and the doll was attached to my arm, wouldn't let go. I screamed the place down and made my mum throw the doll out the window. I know now it was probably a bad dream but it scared the sh*t out of me at the time. Funny how little things can bring back memories that you have forgotten about.

Thanks!!! now I won't sleep tonight

Sad to think that Dominique Dunne was murdered shortly after the release of that movie.
