I'm from Canada and we get the day after Christmas (commonly known as "Boxing Day") off. In all my years of working, I have NEVER had to work the day after Christmas and find this to be one of the weirdest "differences" between Canada and the U.S.

Thankfully, today is not one of my regularly scheduled days to work, so I'm off. But, there will be years in the future that I will have to work the day after Christmas. I will find that very awkward and my co-workers all know that I will only do so reluctantly.

Anybody else finding having to work the day after Christmas hard?

I'm American and I think it's weird. The day after Christmas you need time to digest and at least two hours of working off the food you ate the day before... also Rey had to fly back to NY last night so he could get to work today. :(

I am American and think it is weird not to have Boxing Day off. I sure wish we did. This is my first year working Boxing Day...all the other companies I have worked for gave it off but not this one :( Poor hubby is really having a hard time. He is used to having the whole week between Christmas and New Years off...it is really hard on him.

And I guess you are not working on the weekends either. I go to work when I am scheduled to do so. And there is no difference between a work day, christmas, new year or any other important of less important day of the year and there is also no difference at which time I have to be at work. No matter if they want me at 3AM, 1PM or 10.45PM.

I am also used to a few different days off, also more vacations. But I made the decission to go to the United States and so I have to live with the differences here. If I don't want to cope with that I still have the choice to go back to where I came from.

If you quit your job you can stay at home today, and also the other 364 days of the year.

Most people do work the day after Christmas, unless it falls on Friday. Then some places will have it off like the day after Thanksgiving. I also like the companies that give their employees off until 2 January! That is a nice present.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

We get the week from Christmas to New Year's off.

I took the week before off as well.

Of course, I have ended up doing some work anyway, being the end of year and all. But not too much.

It does appear as thought the work/life balance is a bit out of sync in the USA compared with some other countries. Many are convinced that these sacrifices of time spent working in lieu of spending it with family and friends are necessary to persue the American Dream.

Personally, I think that's hogwash. It is feasible to give more time off and still have a perfectly functional and profitable business. Perhaps more so with a work force that is truly destressed and refreshed but this is not the common perception so a one day holiday (if we are allowed to call it a holiday and aren't going to get jumped on by those who percieve this as some attempt to hijack these days in the name of religion) is what we get.

More paid holidays, that's what I say!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
