To me, it doesn't matter if you want to celebrate the 'true meaning' behind Christmas or just have a day off on 25th December and I don't really care what it's called either. It's a government declared holiday and everyone has the right to that day off regardless of what they do or don't believe, this whole, "well if you don't believe in 'Christmas' you shouldn't get a day off" is mindless.

I just wish we could squeeze a few more paid holidays into the calender, that would be awesome in my opinion :-)

PH, you are wise, as always!

The wife has a CD somewhere with this “alternative” Christmas song on it. It doesn’t sound untoward unless you listen to the suicidal lyrics, and at the end there’s a sound of a gun going off and a body falling into water. Its morbid, but I quite like it - and the gunshot part always comes out of the blue.

Still… nothing beats the UK Christmas number 1 a few years back – the Mad World song from Donnie Darko…

I wouldn’t mind Christmas music as much if it weren’t the same songs every-year. At least since I moved to the US I’m spared that Cliff Richard “Mistletoe and Wine” number. Unfortunately you have to go a long way indeed before you can get away from Mannheim Steamroller, or that Noddy Holder “So here it is Merry Christmas” song from the 70’s. That stuff is enough to make a person want to gnaw their own leg off.

If I know someone is especially strongly Christian or Jewish I'd purposely say Merry Christmas or Happy Hannukah.

That gives me an idea. Let's make Christians and Jews wear badges on their coats so we know who they are and may greet them appropriately.

there you go... :thumbs::lol:

Oh and let's make them all live in quaint little villages where they may practice their faith as they see fit and not be harassed by us secularists. When they come out, they must wear the badges we give them :jest:

You really crack me up sometimes. Thanks. I needed the laugh today.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I like all the drinking and lights. I also love to buy presents, although I usually spend too much. I'm a disorganized person generally but am good about Christmas shopping--I usually start buying things for people in October.

Most Christmas music I could do without.

I like menorahs and driedels and gelt (oh my!).

Celebrations are a good thing regardless of their origin. Especially if they involve drinking and presents.

My short opinion is "O'Reilly needs to get over himself." I think his campaign has made it impossible to associate "Merry Christmas" with anything but "screw you! I am oppressed like the Christians in the arena because I can't buy enough iPods!", at least when it's said smugly to 'correct' poor retail workers.

My slightly longer opinion was stated by a friend, "It's a damn long holiday season. Sometimes I'll say "Happy Holidays!" Some days I'll say "Merry Christmas." I might say "Happy Hanukkah to a Jewish friend. Who cares?"

Now that's really what Christmas is all about, isn't it?

...without a bat of O'Reilly's lustful eyes....maybe a twitch or two though.

I have no problem with Xmas or its popularity. I have no problem with trees (since I love yule trees myself), lights, decorations, or carols.

I have a problem with 2 things:

a) Nativity scenes on courthouse lawns

2) Signs that proclaim "Jesus is the Reason for the Season!"

My nativity scene issue should be obvious.... it's a governmental endorsement of one religion. None of the other normal Xmas stuff is actually Xian.

and

No, Jesus is NOT the reason for the season. The seasons would exist with or without Yeshua of Nazareth. So would the winter celebration involving a decorated tree, holly, presents, yule logs, and other such trappings.

Maybe the fundies in this area could change their signs to read "Jesus is the reason for the nativity", cuz that's the only thing that is even partly true.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Brother Platy...you are the man...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
