i got my job through a temp agency. i'm 15 years in now.. i wasn't saying getting a good entry level job was impossible. but work ethic is often not enough, especially if you have baggage like felonies.

i didn't even take that remark as snide. telling someone to go back where they came from is really off the chain not a calm reaction.

Yeah he had a couple of felonies and it was certainly hard for him and luckily someone took a chance with him and it paid off. He was offered a position full time with a couple different companies and finally found one that would pay the certification fee for him, the other one worked him really really hard.

I took it as snide.

So did I.  And your response was on-target.  I have never lived in Canada, only visited, but I think their taxes are a bit high for my liking.  The “free health care” isn’t really free at all.

No health care is never free.  However, I pay more in taxes in Colorado than I did in Alberta.   Riddle me that?

At that age group it might sound appealing to have free education through college and universal healthcare as in other socialist 1st world countries. What if we invested in our own first?

What if instead of MAGA we Made America First Again?

Why do so many foreign students come to the US and pay for their university education?

I believed some of the hype about those types of societies, once upon a time.  I remember how Denmark came to the forefront thanks to Bernie.  It sounded great, how they live over there.  Until I had a co-worker from Denmark.  He told the truth about how bad life was there, and told me that’s why he immigrated to the US.

Don’t believe all that you read in the media today.  The grass may be green in the pictures they paint, but sometimes, it’s just that... paint.

Oh the awful truth about Socialism.  Who would have figured?  But of course the grass is always greener...

Kids born today live in a country that spends more to pay interest on the national debt than it spends on education, infrastructure, and development. It's not hard to see why they are disenchanted with modern capitalism. They are the ones who are going to be left holding the bag.

And how is the national debt the fault of a capitalistic economic system?  If we want to see the debt get even bigger, then just keep growing the government by making it more socialist.

I know lower income Canadians pay less tax than their American counterparts.  Our tax margins go up faster here in the US than in Canada.  I also know that rich Americans are typically richer than their Canadian counterparts, and the US has more tax exemptions for the rich.

State vs. provincial taxes becomes convoluted, because Canada simply does theirs as a percentage of the federal taxes I think, whereas each state in the US makes up their own income taxes (or has none).

Canada has employment insurance that the US does not have.  I heard that is somewhere between 1-2% annually.

So yes, it is hard to compare directly, but comparing my wages once upon a time with a Canadian who was kind enough to share the info, they grossed significantly more than I did, but with their taxes and the exchange rate, we were pretty similar when it came to net pay.

Dark socialist overlords in CA?   (I took it as sarcastic, based on some of your other replies in the past hour.  Forgive me if I read it wrong).

It’s not odd to presume... he or she lives here and is making money now.  That means they made money in Canada in the past.  For most people, we make more money today than we did in the past (at least one would hope to improve in that arena).

I am sure you're right, and it speaks only to their personal circumstances. You can't purport to present is as evidence to anything.

By that logic, all you need do it look at Snowden, and deduct that Russia is a far better country to live than America, which incidentally is what the Russian propaganda machine is doing. See how that works?

The Bernie Sanders Democratic Socialist only have failed theories for their plans.  Show me a country where Socialism. Or Communism, works?
