How much time are you looking to spend in the UK? If they think you are trying to live there as a visitor it will likely end in tears.

I am thinking of flying over for 6 months at a time for the next three years but perhaps different sponsors? She can financially support me as she will be earning in excess of £19000.

Or is there a multiple visa I could apply for?

To live with a spouse in the UK you must:

Have the UK citizen be making in excess of £18,600, this must be in a job that they have held for at least 6 months in length.

You must stay in the US and she in the UK while applying for a spousal visa.

There must only be one sponsor and that must be the spouse or fiancé.

There is a high risk of being denied even being married to the UK citizen when you announce that you intend to stay as a ''visitor'' for six months.

US citizens that are ''visiting'' must enter under the VWP like UK side system.

Other UK options: marriage visiting visa. The rules are pretty much the same but you must leave the country and start over again with a family based spouse visa (this is unlike how in the US you may marry under a K1 fiancé visa, stay and apply to adjust status to live). https://www.gov.uk/marriage-visa

You are unlikely to receive a longer stay UK visiting visa as a US citizen and especially not if you have a spouse or fiancé.

I wanted to point out something concerning the post from Boiler that you (Pitaya) removed. The US embassy in London tells people on their website they can marry in the US entering on VWP. Boiler did not condone or instruct, either directly or indirectly, others on how to commit fraudulent or illegal immigration activities in any way, shape, manner or method.

If you will return to your permanent residence you may apply for a visitor (B-2) visa, or if eligible, travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program. At the time you apply for the visa and/or travel to the United States you will be required to show that you have a residence outside the United States that you do not intend to abandon. There is no set form that this evidence takes as it varies with each person's circumstances.

The original post only said they wished to marry. It did not ask how to reside or immigrate. Boiler always answers (in very few words) the questions asked, not the question he thought they might have or should have asked. The couple could marry in the US, then the UK person could go through the steps to bring a spouse to the UK to reside.

Following on from yuna628's comment regarding the UK marriage visitor visa, My USC husband came over for ten days using one, we got married and left straightaway to live in Germany. His application was really easy and was approved in about three or four weeks.

We got married in Scotland to avoid the waiting period that is in required in England.

The consensus of the VJ Moderation team is that the removal of the post was proper. The author of the removed post needed to qualify the statement that it's OK to come and get married but that there's a need to return home at the end of authorized stay. It's possible -- as in the referenced instance -- for posts to be so sparse that they can be misinterpreted when crucial information is missing. It's asked that this be kept in mind in the future.
