My fiancé applied for a tourist visa last year and was denied. We did not know about the K-1 visa at the time.

Can this be held against us to get the K-1 visa

Most tourist visas are denied due to lack of strong ties to home country.  If this was the case for your fiance, then the answer is NO.  That denial, alone,  will not affect the K-1.

K-1 is an immigrant intent visa.  Completely different set of criteria for approval than a tourist visa

YMMV

Well hopefully this will not be a red flag for us....

It won't be as long as you guys were being truthful during the tourist visa interview. If you lied then yes it will come back to bite you.

but it is best to know what country you are talking about

tourist denial may not be big but K1's in some countries are difficult regardless

if you want quality information the best way to get it is to let the VJ community know the embassy and circumstances

age differences

religious differences

high fraud countries

all the above count

Same position same country same reason for denial of tourist visa. My NOA1 is Dec 29th

It's my understanding that the tourist visa is totally different from the K-1 and usually it has nothing to do with it I guess I'm asking I'm not understanding completely you were denied a K-1 Visa because of this or you are not

So has this been an issue for you ? My understanding is the tourist visa is entirely different from the k-1 and should not pose a problem.

It is almost impossible to get a tourist visa in the Philippines because of the amount of time people would come over on a tourist visa and just adjust status. Your K1 visa will be fine as long as you are honest about happened. Have you guys met within the last two years yet? That is a requirement of the K1 visa.
