My husband was about to leave for his interview tomorrow and his pr card is not in his wallet. We have no idea where it could be. We have his old card and the approval letter removing his conditions. What should we do?

He once got stopped and was told he needed to carry it with him. He is a rule follower.

From the USCIS website:

"A green card is issued to all permanent residents as proof that they are authorized to live and work in the United States. If you are a permanent resident age 18 or older, you are required to have a valid green card in your possession at all times. Current green cards are valid for 10 years, or 2 years in the case of a conditional resident, and must be renewed before the card expires."

I've always carried mine; I never needed to drive around here and couldn't be bothered with a State ID, so used it as a means to an end whenever I was carded. Still, I'm going to get my license soon just because I'll have to hand the greenie in at the oath ceremony.

Because in the letter we receive with the card says that if you are older than 18 years old you should have you green card with you at all times.

I received my green card on Sep 8 and read all the information that came with it.

The law is very clear in that it is a federal misdemeanor for an alien 18 or older to fail to carry their green card on their person at all times. The punishment for not doing so is a fine of up to $100 and/or up to 30 days in federal prison.

It's up to you as to whether you choose to follow the law or not. As an LPR I understand that I am a guest in this country and so I choose to do so.
