PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Well, it's not George raising the fees, it's DHS.

And if that includes biometrics and the EAD and AP fees, then it's not that much more.

They could make it a real bargain by not charging to renew EAD and AP, which is what they morally should do, IMO.

I'm gonna wait and see what you get before I get my panties bunched. Whatcha gonna do about it anyway? Not file?

I'll agree that I'd like to see what gets included in the entire process for such a huge increase in cost. Although I'll admit, as someone who may be filing for AOS near that time period, I am not looking forward to dishing out that much extra money, especially as we weren't planning on getting an EAD or AP and thus weren't going to be paying for those fees.

The $905 will be for AOS only, not EAD/AP. The article says $905 up from $325. $325 is AOS only.

OMG... When? On 2009? Or did I misunderstand because of the shock??? WOW that's a HUGE increase....

If you read just a bit farther in the same paragraph:

"But the agency plans to eliminate other costs those applicants often pay while they are waiting for their permanent residency to be final."

Says mid-June, I assume 2007.

They do say that they will eliminate "other fees" associated. I highly doubt that means AP and EAD though, since those are separate applications altogether. Maybe (*maybe*), they will include biometrics in the $905.

Yes, it does say that. And maybe I'm just being cynical, but I really have a hard time imagining them eliminating fees for AP and EAD. At most, *maybe* they would eliminate fees for renewal EAD's if AOS is taking a really long time.

Maybe but they also say "fingerprinting" (biometrics?) is going up to 80 from 70. So doubtful.

Actually this isn't that far out of place in terms of other countires... The cost to be a PR in Canada is about $1,300...

In the end it cost me roughly $1600 to get my wife PR status in Canada. That didn't even include any sort of work permit or anything else. Just me sponsoring and her applying for PR status. That's why I was so shocked when it only cost me $765 here for the process, which included a work permit. I find that to be pretty crazy.

Since EADs are a cash cow for them, though, I somehow doubt they'll waive fees for renewals.

The cost in other countries is pretty irrelevant, IMO. It's like when gas doubled in price after Katrina and people were like WELL IT'S 20 DOLLARS A GALLON IN EUROPE (don't know how true it was, but it's what they said). Okay? The price still doubled. I don't think it's really THAT expensive to raise it to 905 ... I'd pay it, because having my husband with me is priceless (which is what they're banking on - people will pay for it regardless). BUT the price is still almost tripling.

They can raise the prices so they are. It's not going affect processing times - nothing ever does w/ the government. So, grin and bear it. And I'm filing before June anyway :D
