  1. It looks like someone just presented this bill and it has been sent to USCIS for their input. Interesting read. They seem to think people that haven't obeyed immigration laws will obey this.
  2. Why are diversity visa issuances being paused? The Department of State is committed to ensuring that its visa process upholds the highest standards for U.S. national security and public safety. This action is being taken in light of concerns raised by the shooting at Brown University and killing of an MIT professor suspected to have been committed by an individual admitted to the United States through the DV program. This pause will allow the Department to undertake a review of the screening and vetting protocols in the DV program. This review will address any vulnerabilities in the process to ensure the Department can adequately establish the identity of aliens who are selected through the DV entry lottery, establish the applicants’ visa eligibility, and ensure that they do not present a threat to national security or public safety. What happens to my visa interview appointment? DV applicants may submit visa applications and attend interviews, and the Department will continue to schedule applicants for appointments, but no DVs will be issued. Existing diversity visa appointments generally will not be rescheduled or cancelled. Are there any exceptions? No. There are no exceptions to this guidance. Does this affect my current valid visa? No diversity or other visas have been revoked as part of this guidance. For questions relating to U.S. admission, we refer you to DHS. So it seems that the processing may continue, but no one will actually get a visa until this is resolved. With the limit on how long the current winners have to get a visa there is the possibility that people could pay for things like medicals and never actually get a visa. It probably also means a huge rush if the que is reopened before the end of the DV issuance year.
  3. Just happened to be passing by VJ. Yes, Nigeria will do home/village visits. They usually do it if there seems to be something off about the application or documents submitted. Nigeria is so high fraud that even legit documents are hard to validate. If the couple is on the up and up then it should work out. Back when I was going through the process there was a couple that had a home visit and it turns out the person introduced as his cousin was really a wife. I guess the end game was he was going to get to the US via a marriage, dump the USC and then petition wife from Africa. Gotta love some of the schemes people come up with.
