DaveE got a reaction from The Nature Boy in NRA Leader Wayne LaPierre's Much-Criticized Sandy Hook Speech Was Actually Quite Effective
Please please stop - did you actually say fire from the waist? I spent thirty years in the military including two tours in Vietnam and one in the gulf war. Never in my life have I see anyone fire from the waist. However, I have seen it in a lot of movies.
I collect military weapons and have several M1 Carbines, M1 Garands, and AR-15s. Every single parameter that designates an assault weapon from any other semiautomatic rifle with detachable magazine, is cosmetic. In the AR-15 world that is why we have two designators; preban and postban. CT never lifted the assault weapons ban, they kept the Federal ban in place. The Bushmaster used was a postban model and perfectly legal in CT. Bushmaster removed the flash suppressor and the bayonet lug, and that is the only difference.
The AR-15 has become the most popular rifle in the U.S. for many reasons. First among these is that it is no longer just a single purpose rifle. In 15 seconds I can convert my AR-15 to a 22 long rifle for plinking. Another 15 second change and it is a 6.8 SPC caliber for deer hunting and feral hogs, another quick change and it is a .223 for service rifle competition shooting.
What has happened though is the largest gun panic buy in U.S. history is taking place as we speak. There are virtually no AR-15s left to buy. Where there was 4 million in the country there are now probably 5-6 million.
High capacity magazines are gone. Brownells, one of the largest vendors in the country, sold a 3.5 year supply in 72 hours.
My local distributor had 150,000 last week and is backordered now.
What one side of the argument doesn't want to admit, is that there is no way to realistically prevent what happened in CT. Virtually any person who wanted commit that crime could have done it with their little Ruger 10/22, and a couple of magazines. Unless you are willing to ban semiautomatic firearms you are treading water.
I refuse to call anyone names or crticize their intent. I am just stating the situation as I see it.

Yep the term Natural Born Citizen is used in very few places. I think a clue as to the founders intent however can be found in the first immigration law passed in 1790; don't know if the "father" stuff would fly today. "And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens: Provided, that the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States." http://www.indiana.edu/~kdhist/H105-documents-web/week08/naturalization1790.html
Fairly good essay here on the subject from the Congressional Research Service, which basically says that if you haven't been naturalized, you are natural born. http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42097.pdf
Of course, I have friends who say that if you were delivered C section, you are not natural born.

Quite true - but it cannot be inadvertantly used as proof of citizenship in that it specifically states that they are a US National, and not a citizen. Endorsement code 9 "THE BEARER IS A UNITED STATES NATIONAL AND NOT A UNITED STATES CITIZEN".

While I agree with most of what you say. The part bolded and underlined disturbs me. No one in my extended filipino family has ever asked me for a dime, (or peso). They work hard and save every available peso to put their kids through college. To say spending all you have is filipino mentality is just flat wrong. I send money every month to my step daughter to help with her college, while she works full time at a call center and goes to college full time. Over generalizations will get you every time.

Each person has their own perspective. It seems to me to be quite different that you can't manufacture a new machine gun, but you can still manufacture a new semiautomatic rifle under a "ban". As I said before, the Bushmaster used in the CT tragedy was legal before the ban, and new Bushmasters will be legal after the ban. Remember, CT never ended the assault weapons ban, and the Bushmaster was legally purchased there. If people would be honest, the real goal is to ban semiautomatic weapons.
A magazine ban doesn't cut it. There are probably 25 million high capacity magazines in general circulation now. My local distributor had 150,000 last Friday and they are backordered now. If you look on line for PMAG 30 round, you will not find any available although the price has tripled. They are not serialized, and there is no record of individual purchaser. They sit on the counter, you pay cash and leave.
They can't define "assault weapon", except by appearance, and that to me is feel good legislation.

It sure is. You check block d in part two, (Basis for petition), of the I-751 - " I entered into the marriage in good faith, but the marriage was terminated through divorce or annulment".
I think the divorce has to be final, and you have to prove the good faith part. Lots of folks remove conditions this way.

My step daughter was 14 when she came here. The local school system gave her a battery of tests at their international student input center. They determined she was performing at a 10th grade US level. She is a senior now and will graduate high school at age 16.
They should not just dump her into a classroom without determining at what level she is performing.

DaveE got a reaction from del-2-5-2014 in Positive from TB skin test...
I am not a medical person, but can relate to our experience. My wife had a clean Xray, her minor daughter (14 at the time), failed the skin test. They did ot delay her and both were given visas, K1/K2. The issue must have been documented in their immigration packet because at POE (Detroit), my wife was instructed to take our daughter to the local health (Georgia), department for examination.
We really didn't think about it much until about two weeks after POE, we got a letter from the Georgia department of health instructing us to report to the local health department with our daughter. The letter also alluded that if we did not, Des's K2 immigration benefits could be in jeapordy. Basically they were saying that if she did not go to the health department, Georgia would notify USCIS.
We were sent to get her another chest XRay and bring it to the health department. The health department doctor put Des on a regimen of medicine for nine months. She had to take a series of pills every day. Once a month she had to go to the health department for a physical and blood test. All of this was at no cost to us.
At the end of nine months she was given a document that says she should never take a skin test again because it will show positive. It also states that she underwent the course of therapy and there is no problem.
