  1. Racism is not just a problem in America...

More than 100 masked raiders ransacked a border security outpost in Inner Mongolia yesterday, injuring 13 workers before returning to demolish the checkpoint with bulldozers, mainland media reported.

The raiders cut the power supply and smashed surveillance equipment before pepper-spraying the workers, putting bags over their heads and threatening to beat them to death if they didn’t comply, according to Chen Tiejun, the deputy magistrate of Ejin Banner, a county bordering Gansu province.

  2. US officials have linked Tashfeen Malik, one of the Pakistani-origin shooters in the San Bernardino massacre, to Islamabad’s radical Lal Masjid.

The information about the link was shared by US officials with Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s brother, during a meeting in London.

The Prime Minister’s office on Saturday denied the US government had provided information about links between Malik and the mosque though the charge, if proved, would be a major embarrassment for Sharif.

Sharif’s government has been known to provide security and assistance to Maulana Abdul Aziz, the cleric of the Lal Masjid, for several years, even after the women’s wing of the mosque declared its allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) in a widely shared video. Aziz too has expressed support for the IS.

Pakistani media reported about the links between Tashfeen Malik, who was killed along with her husband Syed Rizwan Farook in a gunfight with police, and Maulana Abdul Aziz.

“Tashfeen was in contact with Islamabad’s Lal Masjid,” a US official told an unnamed Pakistani official familiar with the investigation, according to ARY News. “Investigation officials have found Malik’s pictures in which she can be seen with Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz,” the report said.

“Abdul Aziz has been shielded by Sharif’s interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on several occasions and the government has failed to arrest this controversial cleric, even after courts ordered his arrest,” said Jibran Nasir, a politician and rights activist who led a protest in Islamabad this year to have Aziz put behind bars.

In 2014, Jamia Hafsa, the women’s wing of Lal Masjid, declared support and pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and invited the IS to launch operations in Pakistan. The head of the Jamia Hafsa is Abdul Aziz’s wife Majida Younis.

However, the Pakistan government did not take any notice of this announcement and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan insisted the IS had no presence in the country.

It is believed Malik was influenced by Aziz and Younis and she may have been prompted by them to work for the IS.

Officials have said privately the Sharif government’s policy of selectively supporting militant groups may have finally backfired.

The Lal Masjid was the scene of a standoff between heavily armed extremists and Pakistani soldiers in 2007. About 100 people were killed in heavy fighting at the mosque in the heart of Islamabad.

Good of the Pakistani government to be so transparent and forthcoming just like Washington.

  3. Seems like there are some people who eat the placenta since it is considered to be very nutritious in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

-> Clean and dry it, make into powder form, or cook in tonic soup.

They believe this because Qin said it had health properties and could lengthen your life but that was 2,200 years ago. The hospital asks you what you want to do with it because, like you say some people want to consume it; which is legal and some people want to take it home and bury it so the hospital won't sell it because that is illegal but still very common. Hospital workers and nurses will take them from the delivery room and sell them for about 20 kuai apiece (about $3).

I saw several families in the waiting room carrying plastic bags full of after birth. I think the consumption of human tissue is something best left 2,200 years ago.

  5. Ha ha! Kinda btdt . Good luck. Give the mil the boot asap IMO;)

I could write a book about her, a living nightmare. I gave her the benefit of the doubt for years but now I know she is just a miserable person. Tradition and mild sympathy allows her to be here for now.

This is the reason for like half of Chinese traditions from what I've seen. At one point there was logic for the tradition, its just rarely re-evaluated for overall usefulness in the modern age.

You are right, I'm always amazed when someone can reasonably explain why something is done in a certain way and the benefit of it. Given their long cultural and scientific history why are they still asking families what they want to do with the placenta after the baby is born???

  6. Congratulations, Operator!

Is your MIL going to you let you take the baby outside?

Thanks! MIL is going outside via the window very shortly. She's been here just over a week and I'm about to strangle her, so is my wife.

Ha what's it called, sitting the month or something? No baths, no outside, no nothing. Ridiculous tradition.

Yue Zi, my wife isn't really following it. She showered yesterday thank god. Mom said to her "don't use your cell phone during yuezi". Wife "Why" and mom said "I don't know, just don't". Luckily most of the hospitals here are following Western medicine.

They actually have Yue Zi hotel/spa deals where the mom and baby check in to a 5 star joint and someone takes care of you. It runs about $5K but includes food.
