Max1gk reacted to ceadsearc in Got my greencard - leaving in Feb for 7 months
It isn't just the 2-year green card, the same residency requirements apply for the 10-year card as well. Applying for a green card is saying that you are going to make the United States your primary residency, not that the US will be one of several. That doesn't mean you can't visit your home country as you please - even for extended periods of time, occasionally - but the US needs to be your permanent residence. As was mentioned above, in many cases the other things that help prove the residency of a green card holder (like a job) are hard to maintain if the PR is frequently out of the country.
The ability to come and go for however long you please is a privilege exclusive to citizens. Once naturalized, you can stay out of America as long as you want. But a permanent resident must permanently reside in America.

Hey Man I understand your concerns you expressed in your first post and I find them genuine and not anti-american at all. I've been here for my longest period here so far and my opinion is that the US is still a great and amazing country that is definitely worth a shot. Personally I identify the following pros and cons:
    Pros:
    - despite all the bad economy talks ecc. if you're willing to work here, you WILL work trust me. I've seen many times laid off people here turning their backs on momentary jobs who would earn them 120+ bucks a day...many others are lazy as hell and don't accept nothing that won't fit their idea of what a real standard of living is. Another problem is that kids are kinda ignorant and stupid here and study the easiest ####### in college just to get a piece of paper that will reveal to be useless once they join the other side... and get deep in debt too for that. Pretty smart ha? .In a nation that desperately needs engineers, technicians and scientists that can really be a problem. Then of course, there are also those who are willing to to do and are unlucky and they have all my support and respect; so I'd say that the loser mentallity of "there are no jobs" should DRASTICALLY be reviewed. Don't EVER listen to anyone that will try to put negative thoughts in your head or discourage you in any way..
    - the country is huge and very diverse and there's not an homogenous mentallity. I find that a big advantage when people aren't the same or think the same everywhere you go.It gives you choice
    - I disagree about your drastic point of view about Politics..more and more people are realizing that the Republicans/Democrats duality is only a divide and conquer technique created by the real manipulators and they're progressively going for more moderate candidates who know their stuff (like Ron Paul for example). There's still some work to do in that sense but I believe Americans are on the right track
    - Beautiful and breathtaking places EVERYWHERE
    Cons:
    - widespread religious lunatism which is the second biggest cancer here, after the Federal Reserve..luckly not all states are affected by it though
    - The health care system is simply primitive. Top quality care but unaffordable unless you have a job. There's something terribly wrong when a doctor gets rich at the expenses of someone else's life.
Having said that I hope all will go well for you guys whatever your future common decisions will be

To my knowledge VAWA claims are handled very carefully and It does take time (hopefully as much as possible)...the reason is obvious: too many fraudsters from certain countries come over here for immigration benefits and ruin the life of their American husbands by pretending they're beaten up.

That contradicts the title of the thread. If they were obligited to give thanks to God,they would have done so,and you would not have needed to start this thread.
Now what our government is really obligated to do is officially recognize a separtion of church and state. And that's why God is officially recognized when the holiday is officially recognized as a religious one. Don't worry, Christmas will soon be here.

    HELP . . . visa denied!
    THANK GOD . . . approved!
If something has a good outcome, it's because the imaginary sky daddy did it. If it's bad they don't ask their GOD for help, they ask us poor schmacks instead.
    Logic? Of course not. Superstition.
