Never mind, found out you can write one combined check to Department of Homeland Security. I actually read the instructions for once

tcTTct got a reaction from marklovetina in Can my 16 year old stepchild get citizenship?
Update - applied for my stepson's passport with Mom as the qualifying USC. Used Mom's citizenship cert, stepson's birth certificate and greencard as documentation and a passport arrived in under three weeks with regular processing.
Thank you for your advice.

tcTTct got a reaction from Nin&Way in Should I file I-130 for my daughter as a Greencard holder or should my US citizen husband petition?
Update - My husband petitioned for my children on my behalf. Both children were approved, even though my daughter was 22 when the interview was scheduled. Both kids are here in the US.
Thank you for all your help.

Thanks for your reply. Complicated family matters out of our control prevented us from filing until now.

Dau Que/Dai Gia does have his valid points. Some of us may have gotten lucky with genuine and in some cases country bumpkin girls who are happy with their lot in life but most are not.
It takes a lot of money for all the trips and fees and to take care of your girl when she gets here before she can start contributing.

tcTTct got a reaction from luckytxn in which type of visa is easier to process and apply for
The consulate in Vietnam does not accept co-sponsors for K1 visas. Since you are still in university are you able to show proof of income that exceeds 125% poverty level for 2 people?
If not, a CR1 marriage visa is your only option, provided that you can get a co-sponsor. A marriage license in Vietnam takes a long time and you are more or less required to be there for the duration.

@tthomas - I think you need to stop using the word wedding. If you yourself believe this was a wedding how could you convince USCIS and the consulate it wasn't a wedding? You need to convince yourself and your girl that this was just an engagement party that had certain photos in a wedding like dress because it was part of the rental ans photo package. Otherwise I see a long wait for a denial and a long process of actually getting married and filing for IR1/CR1 in the future.
This is what happens when uninformed parents/aunts etc assert pressure on the couple without realizing that they ate doing more harm than good.

Maybe the ladies marrying white Americans are a different breed. It's rampant in the Vietnamese community. Im talking about Viet Kieu as the OP is obviously one.
You may have married someone who had a bad experience with a VNese ex so now you're the dream catch. Who knows. All I'm saying is just because we are all in the VN subforum means that the experience of VN/VN couples are the same as VN/white couples. It will vary depending on where you live.
Your experience is from reading the forum. Mine is from being in the community.

Sorry to sound callous but this is the risk you take for marrying a girl from Vietnam, especially if you're Viet Kieu, not loaded with cash and the girl is younger and prettier than someone you could get here in the US. There's no shortage of stories of girls leaving after they get here.
I hope this is not your case. Best of luck to you.

So much drama in here for such a small subforum with so few actively posting members. Sometimes it's just tiring visiting in here.
