swearing-in ceremonies are routinely held at a USCIS office—sometimes right after the naturalization interview. In such a case, your request for a name change on Form N-400 cannot be acted upon. You will need to follow the name change procedures provided under your state's law, which most likely involve filing a name change petition with the state court. After the court grants your name change, and assuming you have already become a U.S. citizen, you will need to apply to USCIS for a new certificate of naturalization, using USCIS Form N-565.

So there is a separate document besides the naturalization certificate?

    Hi guys :)

I am so excited to see at least some reaction on USCIS case status, but I have to check on recent experiences, what should we expect now?

    Is this a good thing?

We filed for I-129f in the mid December 2023...

    Please comment :)

    Thank you in advance :D

Please complete your timelines. Perhaps you hear something by June. NOA2. Officially 80 percent of cases decided within 13.5 months at California service center which is where all cases are handled except those that get transferred to Vermont for background issues.

Sorry if this has been asked 100 times, just confirming that I’m doing this process correctly. My fiancé and I are entering the US soon and are marrying within the week we arrive. Wahoo! I’m just concerned that filing for our marriage license before obtaining her SSN will cause a problem down the road? The plan is to go to the SSA office on April 30 or May 1 and then get married on May 4.

Should we wait until we get to the US, go to the SSA office, then file for our marriage license? Or could I get a quick start on the process and just go ahead and apply for our marriage license now?

    thanks in advance!

Both parties must apply in person with identification for marriage license

Thank you, but the according to official info the Green Card can take up to 120 days after entry. I don't think I would wait 4 months before taking any action with the SSN.

You already have a Green Card. It's the entry stamp and visa in your passport

Hi all, I submitted my I-129F form already. My fiancé is currently a college student and I put her “ employement as student, etc.” I heard it didn’t matter since being a student doesn’t count as employment. But my question is, my fiancé is planning to stop going to college, will this affect our process?

since the document we got from her country stated that she is a student, and I also submitted that in. If we do get our NOA for interview, will they ask about her student status or prof?

It's all about the petitioner being able to support the intending immigrant, and their children if any

It looks like you are in the processing stage of I-129 and you are from Philippines. How do you have knowledge of the entire process for India?

I'm the US citizen petitioner. I don't have any knowledge of how it's handled in India, however everyone goes through the same process of filing the petition and waiting for the NVC to do it's thing. I've learned a great knowledge about the process from this website. If there is a backlog at your embassy  then there is not much you can do. That said, you can be proactive in contacting the nvc for case number and completing the necessary DS-160,and trying to schedule the interview and medical.

Thank you for your post. Big relief for us! What is the wait time to get an appointment if we fill out DS-160 today? (We were very sad yesterday when the lawyer told us about 1 year wait time.)

I'm not sure about wait times, but if you don't already have the case number from nvc you will definitely need it for completion of DS-160 and scheduling of the interview and medical. If the petition was approved in February nvc most likely has the case number but you have to email them.

    Finally please create your timelines

My fiance's I-129F was approved by USCIS on Feb 29, 2024 and her status on NVC got "ready" on April 4.  Our attorney (from the SF Bay area) who filed the case tells us that we have to wait one year for the welcome package via snail mail.  However, it seems from the forum that people are getting DS-160 filled as soon as the status becomes ready on NVC.  I wanted to check if we should fill the DS-160 and get an appointment asap without waiting for the welcome letter.  What would be the wait time to get an interview appointment at Mumbai?  Can one interview without the arrival of the welcome package?  If not, how long would it take to receive the welcome package?  Is there any Whatsapp group that I can join to discuss these questions?

    Thank you in advance,

    Ksen

Fire that lawyer. Once you have case number from nvc, you can schedule interview and medical, and fill out DS-160. If you don't know the case number from nvc, you can make email inquiry.

    Hello,

I know you cannot travel for more than 180 days. Does anyone know if that is in a calendar year ? or From the time you received your green card? My husband has a pending N400 and since receiving his green card he has been on some trips and vacations and has been outside the country 85 days so far in total over the past 3 years. Is he allowed to keep traveling while the N400 is pending ?

Shouldn't be an issue, but how long is the trip? When is the interview? How long has he been a Green Card holder? Is this under 3 or 5 years ?

As the title says I am engaged to a Russian woman and we want to be together as quickly as possible.  I am seeing a lot of conflicting information online about the US Embassy in Moscow transferring immigration cases to Poland,  but Poland is not issuing Schengen visas for Russian citizens nor letting them fly directly into the country.  I also saw another post that some people are going through Israel for the interview process which confuses me further.   I have not filed the I-129F yet but am getting ready to.

Does anyone have more information about the whole Schengen Visa/Poland situation?  What can I expect after filing the I-129F?  Will this be a significant obstacle to overcome?  Would a CR1 be a better visa choice?  Would the CR1 have to deal with the whole Schengen visa stuff as well?  Overall we just want to be together as quickly as possible and thought we could have that with the K1.

I appreciate any guidance anyone can provide.  Very confused.

Processing times are roughly the same for either k1 or spouse visa. Can't comment on the visa interview location as I'm not in those location. I believe people are interviewing in Israel in this case but it may be worth it to research what other countries would your fiancee be able to travel to.

Apologies. I fear this has been asked 100,000 times. I've been reading VJ and and any site I can find. Do all those whom are K-1 married and with 2-year green card need to submit the I-751? Our 2-year green card expires this coming December. I think we need to submit an I-751, but some sites suggest it's unnecessary.

One more stupid question. One site says we need to wait 3 years before submitting the N-400, but another site says it can begin after 2 years and 9 months.

All of this seems simple, but there's no site with a the extremely simplified outline my simple mind requires. Every process is cluttered with too many details.

    Thanks so much!

Yes you must file the 751 no more than 90 days before the green card expires. This is the best site to be on. I've learned alot myself as I stumbled on this website by chance reading about the reviews of the embassy in Manila.

    Hello,

It's been a little over 2 weeks since me and fiancé posted our I-129F. USPS tracking confirmed it delivered to Dallas PO Box at 5:20am on April 4th - I'd assume it would've been collected shortly after then?

Fiancé still hasn't received any update via text/email to say it has been received. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced waits longer than the much shorter timeframes I'm reading online? I'm starting to worry that it's been missed somehow.

    Thank you :)

Was your check cashed? Or card charged? Did the return receipt come back in the mail?

My grandma (a US citizen) is trying to bring her son, grandson and daughter-in-law to the US.

I'm currently checking my uncle's status on the ceac.state.gov website with his NVC case number and invoice ID number.

When I got to the summary information page, it said this:

"Due to the numerical limitations on immigrant visa issuance prescribed by law, this petition is not eligible for further processing at this time.
The National Visa Center (NVC) will retain the petition until an immigrant visa becomes available. The NVC will notify the petitioner, principal applicant, or attorney of record when this petition is eligible for further processing. The principal applicant should not make any firm plans such as disposing of property, giving up jobs, or making travel arrangements at this time"

All the "Start Nows" under the IV Application section for all applicants are grayed out; they cannot be clicked on

    Is this normal?

Please who does my uncle need to contact exactly for clarification on this issue?

    Visa class is F31.

Priority date is August 7, 2013

Thank you in advance for any answers.

You have to wait until a visa number is available. What country?

    Hello Everyone,

I am married to a Filipina and our two year wedding anniversary will be April 18th. USCIS started processing our case early July of 2022. We are still at the USCIS stage. My lawyer wants to just file a Mandamus in July of this year. I don't want to spend the 6 grand. I will if I have to though.

He has told me, reaching out to a senator will do nothing, contacting a local lawmaker will do nothing, and contacting USCIS is a "colossal waste of time". I feel like he just wants the 6k for filing the writ. He explained to me that if he files it, his "contact" at USCIS will email him and ask what can be done to avoid going to court.

Does any anyone have any ideas to prevent me from spending another 6 thousand dollars? My lawyer seems confident in his plan, but I just want this petition approved. It's been nearly two years now. Read my other, threads that should answer any questions..

    Please complete your timelines

Good Afternoon. I have a question that someone can help me with, has anyone here come through customs at this airport? My fiancee will be arriving at that airport for her connecting flight.

Once she clears customs.. and retrieves her luggage.. how far will she have to go to re-check in her luggage( not carry-on) for her connection flight..Thank you

There are recheck counters right before you exit customs. If for some reason they aren't available you would exit immigration with all bags and proceed upstairs to ticket counters. At most a 5 minutes walk

I recently started working with an immigration consultant working with Platinum Immigration Services. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience dealing with this company, and if there's any information that can be relayed about them (good and bad).

What kind of immigration benefit are you applying for? If it's a straightforward petition you can do it yourself.
