pietrus1 reacted to nerdcouple in Emergency: Traveled abroad with extension letter but without physical greencard
Update: I made it back to the US on my original flight. Since I booked my flight using points, I didn't have anything to lose and decided to push my luck. I checked in online, put my A-number in the form and entered May 2027 as the expiration date of my greencard. Also added my Global Entry number. Went to the airport and nobody asked for the physical greencard at the bag drop off. There was one more document check but nobody wanted to see the actual greencard or the letter so I got on the flight without any issues. At immigration in the US I got in the Global Entry line as always. The officer asked for my greencard and I said I don't have it with me but showed him the extension letter. He looked at it and said 'Welcome to the US!"... I didn't even have to go to secondary inspection so I must have gotten incredibly lucky.
I had a plan B in place in case they would have denied boarding which I totally expected: I would have taken a flight to Mexico City a few hours after my original departure and met my husband there. He was ready to travel there from the US just to deliver my greencard and to get back together to the US on the next flight.
Thanks again for all your replies. I am incredibly grateful for what happened today and that was absolutely not what I expected to happen. Success factors for me were online check-in and Global Entry I believe. Plus a lot of luck! I don't ever want to go through this again though.

Update: By 2:30pm yesterday his case status was approved!!!!!!! I can't believe it. No interview, 2 RFEs (1 for medical, 1 for marriage certificate/USC spouse birth certificate, even tho I sent both of them in with the original application) I'm so so happy! Hoping the card comes in the mail quick so we can take a 2 year long break from USCIS

Just got approved for the green card! No interview required.

All I can say is congrats! The USCIS most likely waived your interview and you should get your green cards in the mail pretty soon. Plenty of people on this forum adjusting from K visas had their interviews waived, and some of them were approved in as little as 2 months, so 5 months isn't unheard of.

Thank you. The approval came from NBC. I got an RFE to send marriage certificate on the 7th and that came from San Francisco field office.

AOS was approved over the weekend, on the 2nd.
Question: How long after approval did folks receive status change for card production or arrival of green card?

For my wife, we did not receive an RFE but we noticed that the DS-3025 was not filled out correctly. So, we found a civil surgeon who agreed to just update and transfer the immunizations from the DS-3025 to the i-693. It was very difficult to find (and convince) the civil surgeon to do so. I submitted the i-693 with the AOS package and she received her green card with no problem.
However, her children were follow to join k2 recipients and I submitted their AOS packages with their DS-3025 despite knowing that her kids needed additional immunizations. This was done to avoid having to pay the higher USCIS fees due to drop any time now. We fully expect an RFE and are prepared to take the kids to family doctor / health department to get the vaccinations completed and then to a civil surgeon for the immunizations to be transcribed on to the i-693.

Hi everyone! After a K1 Visa, we have started our AOS + AP + EAD in May (National Benefits Center), and I received the Approval Notice for my EAD already!
JANUARY 17, 2023: Entry in the US with K1 Visa
MARCH 2, 2023: Married at Courthouse
MAY 10, 2023: AOS+AP+EAD Packet Mailed
MAY 12, 2023: Received
MAY 16, 2023: Receipt Notices Date
MAY 19, 2023: Biometrics was scheduled in Cincinnati
MAY 23, 2023: Receipt Notices received with USCIS account number
JUNE 7, 2023: RFE for Birth Certificate (Had not sent proper format), seen online
JUNE 9, 2023: Biometrics Appointment - Actively Reviewing Forms I-485 & I-765
JUNE 13, 2023: Evidence uploaded
JUNE 23, 2023: Date of Notice of Approval for I-765
JUNE 29, 2023: Notice of Approval for I-765 received in mail
Waiting on receiving the EAD card now! I did not expect the EAD to go this fast but I'm glad! Now I wish the AP would move quickly too so that I could go visit my family back in France for Christmas... Let's hope
Note: on the USCIS website, the I-765 is still showed as "Being Actively Reviewed by USCIS", but does show the Standalone Approval in the Documents section. I had been checking my status often this week but did not think of looking in the Documents section!

Well, three frickin years after applying (are you kidding me?), my adjustment of status application was finally approved! At this rate maybe I'll be able to vote in the 2032 presidential election...
Only consolation is we didn't have to drive almost two hours each way to an interview, and didn't have to file yet another application (and wait another three years lmao) to remove conditions on a 2-year permanent resident card.
See signature below for timeline.

I'd say wait a few days for the online access code information, then you'll be able to sign on and see if all your cases were received. Did you put them in the same package?

Once you receive your online access code, you can upload the additional evidence and there are categories for the uploads. For example, at the time of filing, our 2022 tax transcript was not yet available. Once it was, I uploaded it under the affidavit of support section. There's also an unsolicited evidence section if you're looking to provide more proof of your relationship.

Hello May 2023 AOS filers another month another round of AOS submissions, Please be aware that this checklist is NOT all inclusive and you must consult the USCIS website to crosscheck this checklist against/with. The AOS process has been confusing since the pandemic hit, not to mention the added politics. So please I want to stress that you only use this check sheet as a starting point and guide if you will. The USCIS site will be the final guide. Please ensure that you check your forms for the correct versions and editions because if you use the wrong forms USCIS will reject your application and send it back to you. This is easily checked on the USCIS website prior to downloading your forms. You should also ONLY download your forms from the USCIS website. The current and correct fees can also be ascertained from the USCIS website .
Just a side note before we get started USCIS may decouple Forms I-765 and Form I-131 if filed jointly with Form I-485. Here is the quoted text taken directly from the USCIS website. "To improve efficiency and reduce Form I-765 processing times for Form I-485 applicants, USCIS may decouple Forms I-765 from Forms I-131 filed at the same time. Effective Feb. 1, 2022, when possible, we will adjudicate an applicant's Form I-765 first. If we approve it, we will issue an Employment Authorization Document without any notation about advanced parole. We will adjudicate the Form I-131 separately and if we approve it, we will issue an advance parole document". I know this is old news, but I thought it would be good to include it here for your knowledge.
What this means is some people elect to include three (3) copies of their marriage license / certificates one attached to each form (I-485, I-765 and I-131 respectively). I do not know of anyone receiving an RFE for a marriage license/certificate missing on the I-765 or the I-131 since USCIS has started doing this new way of adjudicating the AOS (the marriage license / certificate with form I-485 is required though). This is an age old concern that has been in play before this new way USCIS started adjudicating these forms. Some filers including me when I filed the AOS back in 2019 sent in three (3) copies of their marriage licenses / certificates. I did it then because of peace of mind and there were some RFEs given out for missing licenses / certificates (back then). USCIS also used to issue Combo Cards, Employment Authorization Document and Advance Parole (EAD and AP combined in the same card). I've seen now where they have issued an EAD without the AP. Whether you include three (3) copies of your marriage license / certificate is going to be your individual call when you file your AOS. Having said that let's get into the checklist:
AOS Checklist
Cover Letter listing Table of Contents Check Payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security - $1,225.00 (this includes the Bio-metrics fee, also be aware that fees are supposed to increase in the near future so please double check before you send your packet off!)
Form I-485 (completed and signed by non-US Citizen/beneficiary)
Form G-1145 Copy of beneficiary's Passport with biographical page Copy of beneficiary's K1 Visa from Passport and entry stamp Copy of NOA2 Approval letter (from K1 process) I-94 Copy of beneficiary's Birth Certificate translation of birth certificate (if needed) Certified copy of Marriage License or Certificate Passport Photos (2) name written on the back Copy of DS-3025
Form I-864 (completed and signed by USC) (goes with form I-485)
Proof of USC's citizenship (copy of birth certificate, copy of passport bio page, or other) Current tax year 2022 and (optional 2021 , 2020) Tax Return (with W-2) or Transcripts (transcripts are better if you can get them) Employment Verification letter (updated one - not the one used during K1 process) Pay stubs (last 3 months)
Form I-765 (completed and signed by non-US Citizen/beneficiary)
Copy of beneficiary's Passport with biographical page Copy of beneficiary's K1 Visa from Passport and entry stamp I-94 Passport Photos (2) name written on the back Copy of NOA2 (from K1 process) Be sure to use the correct filing code of (c)(9) if this code applies to you. The I-765 instructions explains all the codes in detail. If you are filing under a different code (other than (c)(9) the fee for your AOS will not be correct and USCIS will reject your entire packet.
Form I-131 (completed and signed by non-US Citizen/beneficiary)
Copy of beneficiary's Passport with biographical page Copy of beneficiary's K1 Visa from Passport and entry stamp I-94 Passport Photos (2) name written on the back Copy of NOA2 (from K1 process
Be sure to double check for the current fees as fees do sometimes increase and they can change on a dime so please check. Additionally, check the forms as listed above i.e., current version and or edition date, there have been many changes to various forms. Consider sending tax transcripts instead of the 1040, and W2's. Also consider preparing a cover letter for each form in addition to the main cover letter.
Make sure you send long form birth certificates and not the short form. Hope this helps in your preparation of your AOS. When in doubt ask questions.
Please consider filing the I-131 and the I-765 even if you don't think you'll need them right now. You never know what changes your life will have on down the road, so I recommend you file these two forms from the start. There is no extra charge to file them with your AOS and it's better to submit them all at once. There has been much confusion coming out of USCIS, partly due to Covid-19 and partly self-inflicted. This confusion filters on down to the people filing for AOS. The above listing is subject to change at a moment’s notice so please check, recheck and check again BEFORE you send off your packet for any last-minute changes.
Congratulations on a successful submission of your AOS packet!
