LJVotolato got a reaction from Redro in Waiting for AOS/EAD - how do people spend these 6-9 months without work?
I read one book a week. go to the gym 6 days/week, run marathons, explored the area. That's all fine for a few months but it's been 13 months now. And no, I can't leave the country as I'm waiting for my EAD and AOS.

So at your behest, I looked into this. Emma was a bot I think so I didn't go through that but I did email them and after 22 days they responded with this image below.

I'm really hoping this means I will get my interview date soon!

I don't know if this constitutes as an "update" but any type of new information is celebratory since I've waited so long and here is some!

I sent them a message on May 30 re: my December 2021 AOS application since I haven't had an update since February (where it says they are actively reviewing). I don't know if this is NEW information from "actively reviewing" but this is what they responded with the following paragraph today (almost a month later).

Your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for interviews at their local Field Office. Interview appointments are scheduled as slots become available at the Field Office. Once you have been scheduled for an appointment, you will receive an Interview Appointment Notice to appear at a certain date and time at your local Field Office. You must take the Interview Appointment Notice and photo ID to your appointment. Please review the Interview Appointment Notice for any other requirements.

TWO YEARS? That's insane! Everyone told me 6-9 months? I'm in California...

English is my first language so I don't need to learn it at all but that is a very good use of your time!

I'm getting frustrated waiting for my AOS approval and just want to assure that I am not realizing something that everyone else here is. Do people really NOT work for those 6-9 months it takes for your AOS to be approved? I applied for my EAD with my AOS in December 2021 and it says the case is pending.

So how do you spend your days? Legit question. I have tons of hobbies but not being able to work and not being able to go back home (since I don't have my advance parole)  is very frustrating. Seems like a silly question, I know I know. I've waited months to ask it for that very reason.

Thanks a lot. I'm 36 and English is my first language so no need to develop more skills there! I also worked in a very general field and plan to do so - I wish I was in a more specific discipline so I can learn or take a course on that for my future job!

I've already ran a marathon but yes I exercise daily although I used to do that even with a full-time job! But yes, for non-runners, I would really recommend picking up working out/running!

I don't understand how and when that would even be a question asked of me? Every time I come through the border, the US asks if I'll be making US income which would be untrue (I would be earning from a Canadian company).

Thank you for this. I understand everything except for the last part:
You are not authorized to work online for your CA company while you are in the US waiting for an EAD.  The punishment if you do decide to work is that there is no punishment in your case of a spouse of a USC adjusting status.

What is the punishment? "No punishment in your case of a spouse.."? So there is no punishment?

Sorry, I don't really understand this. I'm after the 90 day mark. Can I not find a remote job (work in States, but work for a Canadian company) while my green card is being reviewed for 6-8 months?

Can't I just move back to Canada then? I'm a little confused. If my AOS is denied and/or my marriage ends (either scenario very unlikely), I'd still be able to move back to Canada and yet have accrued savings if I work in the States for a Canadian company? I obviously can't work for a US company as I don't have a social security number etc.

LJVotolato reacted to Dashinka in I-485: what is necessary to include?
Technically, if adjusting based on marriage, the instructions only require a certified copy of the marriage certificate as well as proof of termination of any previous marriages.  That being said, most people also include whatever evidence they have showing they are starting to commingle the marriage such as joint bills, joint insurance, etc.  Of course with a K1 AOS, there might not be a lot of that evidence ready for the filing, so keep gathering this material and if you have an interview take it there in case the IO wants to review it.

As to the I864, tax returns with the W2’s/1099’s OR copies of the IRS tax transcripts.

    Good Luck!
