  1. In the 485 they ask you whether you want a SSN to be assigned to you during the 485 process or you''ll get one yourself. I chose the first option not knowing how long the 485 would take.
  2. After 19 months (applied in Dec 2021 for 485 adjustment of status based on marriage), I just got my approval notice online: On September 16, 2023, we approved your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status For those still waiting, this is after multiple "case is being actively reviewed" which was so frustrating as it had zero actual updates. I did get my combo card back in April/May 2023. Question: Will I get my SSN when I get my approval in the mail? I ask because I have been using ITIN in the meantime but it is limiting for certain things. I requested to get a SSN during the application process for 485. Good luck all and I'm rooting for everyone! Drove me insane... I did the paperwork myself too so it would've been extra devastating if I did that and didn't get approved.
  3. Hey! I want to give you some hope. I applied December 2021, and I got the combo card in May 2023, which I thought was ridiculous. Anyway, I JUST got "approved" for my 485! Insane timeline for me as I thought it would be done much faster. From what I have gathered, it seems very random as a lot of people applied after me and got their approvals much earlier. I received "actively being reviewed" status updates which were so frustrating at least 3 times during that time. I am confused though - I thought I had to do an interview so I saved a lot of stuff for it but it just says "approved".
  4. Did you get your combo card approved before this? My Combo Card was approved 3 weeks ago (BLESSED--already flew home for a few days and started applying for jobs) but there is no movement in the 485!
  5. I read one book a week. go to the gym 6 days/week, run marathons, explored the area. That's all fine for a few months but it's been 13 months now. And no, I can't leave the country as I'm waiting for my EAD and AOS.
  6. My subject says it all - EAD and AOS. Look it up on their website for California - it now says 6-18 months. I don't know why you keep doubting that I'm doing the research lol.
  7. That would be an obvious responsibility of mine except I did weigh my option and it said 6-8 months in California. Now it's 6-18 months. So no matter the preparation, the circumstances have changed.
  8. But you're not allowed to work while waiting for your green card. That's the whole premise of my question?
  9. I don't get how others in our situation aren't outraged? To be honest, I don't get outraged (and am against the outrage culture) but where are all of the people in our situation? Wouldn't they resort to being on this forum and sharing their experiences? I got my biometrics done in February and am just waiting now. Ugh! What state are you guys in? I'm in California.
  10. Oh my word, you need to see this text message thread I'll DM It to you! And thank you for subscribing! I too 100% never liked seeing photos (let alone videos) and I really re-activated instagram since going all in with the vlogging thing. Anyway I'm so happy for you - was it hard for you to get a job in July when you got your permit?
  11. Thank you for your comforting words!I have so many hobbies and a healthy mindset but it's taxing because it I swear before I applied it said 6-8 months (so I mananged my expectation) and now 6-18 months. I feel you though re: transportation. I'm luckily in Los Angeles and have made new friends so I don't that "stuck" feeling that you have besides not being able to visit my family in Canada. Ugh, I think I have to ask my senator soon because my husband also quit his job recently to start a band (lol). The only thing I could think of is starting a YouTube channel documenting my frustration with this process (and also help people in his situation, pursuing a dream at 40 years old). I can't see likeminded YouTube channels of people waiting for a green card but if anyone wants to see, I sprinkle in that frustration here:
  12. Mine (Los Angeles) says 6-18 months (ridiculous, no? That type of range???). What was your estimated time? And how did you spend your time without being able to work??? Ugh! I was ready for 6 months without work (both mentally and financially) but now it's getting testy.
  13. Congrats! I hope that it does mean that for you. I filed for AOS, travel and work all in December 2021 and I haven't heard back either. It says it's still processing. I'm getting quite frustrated because I haven't received 485 let alone the work OR travel permit. It seems like it's very random in that some December/January/February filers received it within like 4 months. Does anyone know if there is a logical explanation (because clearly it's not based on chronological order) to this entire approval process?
  14. I filed in December 2021 and I haven't heard back since February when they said everything is processing. It says it's still processing. 16. Thank you! So helpful. I'll do that. Did you get ANY expedite on the travel part when you did this? I miss my family so much.
  17. No, and it's becoming so frustrating! In my area (Los Angeles), it says 6-18 months. Can a simple AOS take 18 months? I filed in December 2021. Hi, how do you expedite without a job offer? I'm so sorry to ask this but I was patient, thinking I'd get my green card by September (filed in December 2021) but now I really am running out of money.
  18. Hi! I'm a Dec 2021 filer and I was so frustrated that I did send a message online and got a response one month later. But now it's been like a month and I still haven't been contacted re: interview date or any update. I posted this earlier in this thread: I don't know if this constitutes as an "update" but any type of new information is celebratory since I've waited so long and here is some! I sent them a message on May 30 re: my December 2021 AOS application since I haven't had an update since February (where it says they are actively reviewing). I don't know if this is NEW information from "actively reviewing" but this is what they responded with the following paragraph today (almost a month later). Your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for interviews at their local Field Office. Interview appointments are scheduled as slots become available at the Field Office. Once you have been scheduled for an appointment, you will receive an Interview Appointment Notice to appear at a certain date and time at your local Field Office. You must take the Interview Appointment Notice and photo ID to your appointment. Please review the Interview Appointment Notice for any other requirements.
  19. Yeah, I sent it from the USCIS account (~month ago). Wait, your husband got his work permit approved? I submitted all three forms in December and nothing has been approved (work, travel, AOS).

  21. So at your behest, I looked into this. Emma was a bot I think so I didn't go through that but I did email them and after 22 days they responded with this image below. I'm really hoping this means I will get my interview date soon!
  22. I got an actively reviewed notice in February and it's still the same, just FYI. I'm in LA And I filed December 2021.
  23. That's exactly what happened to me (they asked for something 100% I already sent). I uploaded it right away (same time as you). Ack, if I just even knew it would take only another 2 months, I wouldn't be as frustrated but when you look at the estimated wait times, it says up to 22 months for California? How can that even be the case?!?!
  24. OK so it took you 8 months! That gives me hope because it seems like so many people are getting it in 3-4 months (I'm waiting at 6 months now.) I did NOT think of chatting to Emma. I don't know what that means but I'll google it and make sure to do that, thank you! Did you have any RFEs?
