Chidang reacted to EllisAndRenz in WIfe keeps threatening me that she will go to the battered shelter (merged)
I'm going to jump in here.  Not sure if this will be helpful or not.

After my wife got here, also from the Philippines, she went thru a period of time where she acted similar to this.  She was physically and mentally abusive to me, all the while screaming I was abusive to her when I would never even consider laying a hand on her.  (Don't EVER do that, because then it's ALL on you.) She got jealous over things that happened only in her dreams. (You ever get yelled at for something that happened in someone's dream?  And asked to apologize for it? I did!)   She kept threatening to "go home" or to "go to a Philippine shelter". (Someone told her they exist).   At one point, after being physically assaulted, I called the police.  Since I had a mark on me and she didn't have anything, the police were going to charge her with abuse.  I declined, but that stuff stopped quickly.  She told me she was a bit shocked that in the USA they would charge a woman with abuse.  Sometime (maybe before, or after) she called some Philippine "mission" and they told her they had nothing to do with people's marriages. (I still don't know who she called, but it was weird)  After that, one of our Philippine neighbors essentially told her to cut it out.  (On these last items, I didn't have to do anything, the stars just aligned in our favor)

She subsequently got a job that she absolutely loves.  She's turned around.  She's NEVER physically abusive anymore.  Occasionally she's emotionally abusive(?) or maybe manipulative, but she's gotten so much better with that, and we are at the point now where I can go "hey, you are doing that again."  I've had my faults too (aren't we all a work in progress?), but we've grown together thru this process.

Consider this: Her voyage here was crazy for her from a mental standpoint.  She's left her whole world behind.  She is alone, except for with you. She's about as far away from home as she can get. Don't underestimate what that does to any person, especially one that has likely never traveled outside of her country.  She's transitioning from a long distance relationship to being a full time wife and partner.  That doesn't excuse the threats or the abuse.  In fact, I'd recommend asking her to go to therapy together, so a third party can help you find methods to work thru these things.  Many Filipinas have insane level jealously issues, even when unjustified.  She may need therapy to learn to deal with those feelings, which likely drive some of her behavior.

Now many have said abusers never change.  That's often true.  But it's not 100% true.  It wasn't for me.  My wife and I are once again crazy mad in love with each other, and I can't think of not wanting to spend the rest of my life with her.  For the first year or so after she got here, it was pure hell.  But now, it's nice.  She's back to being the girl I fell in love with when I was living in Manila.  Our relationship is stronger than ever.  I hope this same outcome for you.

You have been given a lot of really great perspectives here.  I hope you find a solution that works for you, and I wish you the very best.

They are weong and you are right. They're the worst sometimes. So can you confirm your husband got IR-1 visa (NOT adjustment of status?).

File I-90 again and send it with:

    - Copy of marriage certificate with a BRIGHT Post-it pointing to the official marriage date
    - Copy of approval letter with another bright post-it note pointing to the APPROVAL date (NOT the filing date)
    - Copy of passport page with the IR-1 visa showing DATE OF ENTRY (which is what the embassy/consulate should have given your husband...IR-1 is for couples married 2+ years and CR-1 is for less than 2 years)
    - List these dates out again in a cover letter.
    - Also print out this page: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/immigrant-visa-for-spouse.html#12
Highlight the WHOLE section of "What is Conditional Residence?", which clearly explains who gets the 2 year conditional card vs the 10 year card.
    - End your cover letter by stating, "On ____'s date of entry, our marriage was 4 years old (or whatever the exact amt of time is) and ____ should receive the 10 year card as based on the provided policy regarding conditional vs permanent resident cards. Due to this being DHS/USCIS error, the fee must be waived for this I-90 filing."

You literally have to spell it out for them.

Not yet I'm building a portfolio from scratch. MY previous works were from my home country and won't fit the US standard. I'm doing a photoshoot with some models this Saturday so my portfolio would be up soon. I will keep you updated

    1) you can change that after getting your GC ( you have to go to SSA with an appointment) number will remain same..
    2) some are using the same without any problem.
  8. Thanks

Not always.  Their update system is horribly unreliable.  Some people will not see a change in status but they will receive a letter in the physical mail with the interview date and time.  Make sure you watch your physical mail!

My husbands status never showed bio appointment was scheduled. It was actually weird how it happened. We got a REFIE in the mail one day And the status updated online saying they asked for initial evidence. Then 2 days later we got a biometrics appointment in the mail telling us to go in a month from them, but nothing Ever showed it was scheduled online..

The next status online showed that they received our RFIE answer, and it never updated to show his biometrics we’re taken. I think as long as you have a paper official letter from USCIS you’re good, the online statuses don’t really matter as much because they get delayed or never updated (that’s my personal opinion  though)

I can attest to this. I received my interview letters first and no status change for about a week or so. I was starting to worry it was an error 😂

Took me just shy of 2 months from Biometrics to scheduled interview letters for OKC.
(scheduled November 8th to be exact)

@AbdulAhad - As many others have mentioned, there may not be a direct path to move to the US for you at the moment. Doesn't mean there isn't any path at all. You may just have to re think the time line a little.

The fact that you are 15 and have this as a goal is the very thing in your favor. You could definitely try leveraging the family friend and seeing if you can move to the US for high school. OR you could make it your goal to get to a great college for undergrad/masters. If you select the right field of study and work hard on your grades and extra curricular activities, you could make a path to study at world class university completely on your own - there are plenty of scholarships available to deserving students and as a F1 holder in college you can do limited on campus work (TA etc.). With a good university and a scholarship in hand, the process to get a F1 visa is much smoother.

I know of friends whose family moved to the US when they were in high school. I moved while in college. From all the conversations I have gathered that the adjustment is much harder when you move during high school vs. college as you need to mature and get used to the cultural differences and so do your peers. The debt/cost that you incur will be significantly lower and the value that you get will be much higher. If working in the US is your goal, the timeline on when you can start working won't change in either case as without a college degree in an in demand field (think STEM, Business etc.) a company won't be able to sponsor you for a H1B.

My suggestion - for the next few years focus on the university you eventually want to study in and the field you want to make your career in. Start looking into the admissions process and build an impressive resume so universities are falling over themselves to give you a full ride. All the best!

    Hi guys,

I don’t know if is any help for you.

i just chat with one of live agents from USCIS, thru Emma.

i was asking about work permit, as you know national benefits center has 9-9.5 months for processing the I 765.

they ask if i fall under any of their categories.
i told to the live agent that I don’t think that any of them are applying for my case.
i just told the truth that only my husband works and that i start to feel like is harder to cover for all the expenses and that i want to help.
the agent didn’t ask for more details or any  documents.
he just said that will put an expedited request and he gave me a confirmation number.
also said I should receive in 7 days a response.

I don’t know if was a good choice doing it.

i will update after i will receive anything from them.

have a good day and good luck to everyone!

Hey! Well, I had one from 2018 when I was a Student on an M-1 visa and just used the same one. I tried to get a new one before the appointment at the MVA, I called the nearest SSA Office and they just asked me to mail some stuff like copy of passport, I-94. Proof of residency, NOA1 AOS. But I didn't do it cause it was going to take weeks, so I used the old one and it worked just fine. (You have to apply before your I-94 expires though and mine was very tight) Good luck!
