    Good morning ,

I applied for a passport on 9/18 but they haven’t cashed my check yet.I made the check payable to “department of state “ Instead of “U.S. department of state”.is this gonna be an issue? What should I do ?

    Thanks in advance

Check the status of your application here:

    https://passportstatus.state.gov

If status shows received, then don't sweat the check yet.

    If no status call 1-877-487-2778

Correct. But filing I-90 is good faith effort to try to follow federal law. INA 264(e): "Personal possession of registration or receipt card; penalties. Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to him pursuant to subsection (d). Any alien who fails to comply with the provisions of this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall upon conviction for each offense be fined not to exceed $100 or be imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both."

I think you misunderstand "alien registration receipt card"

Its the Green card, not a receipt as in store receipt, receipt as in you received it.

Secondly, the key word is possession, expired or not.

You DO NOT lose your LPR status if the card expires.

Immigration law does not explicitly require a valid green card to apply for naturalization.

It is not mandatory for applying for citizenship, unless its a conditional card.

Yeah file the I-90. They're gonna ask for the GC and when they see it's expired, they'll ask for an I-90 receipt notice. I don't think they approve anyone for citizenship if the applicant shows up with an expired GC only.

No one asked me for my GC throughout the N400 process.

I was asked to turn it in during the oath ceremony, and they didn't even look at it, except for my picture!!

Because your card is expired, doesn't mean you are not a LPR.

What if they lost my Naturalization Certificate?
Am I going to leave it there?

I am just worried that they will lose it when I apply for my passport.
    How this work anyone know?

    Thank you,

Right now 165,000 people a week are sending either their old passport or NC.

    It's required.

If they lose it, file a claim.

Your passport will suffice to prove citizenship at that point.

I need to get my passport certified copy so I can send it instead of my original documents how do I get it certified copy also notary is it the same thing if I get it notarized

    Are you renewing your passport?

You need to send the original back, copies are NOT accepted.

You will get it back after your new one arrives.

If you mean your Certificate of Naturalization, no copies either, you need to send the ORIGINAL.

    Received my docs back.

Weird thing is, with the docs, they included a form saying they had changed my biographical data to match my documents...not sure what they did or meant. Info is same on both. Also, I did not do a name change.

If your Passport matches your NC.

It might have been your Passport application having incorrect information?

My brother filed his N-600 since 2019 March and after being stuck on "processing" status for a year, then some challenges with us not getting the mail they supposedly sent in June and finally getting them to email the request for initial evidence letter,

we spoke to the USCIS today and the Tier 2  agent said my brother is currently on queue to be scheduled for a ceremony...But we filed the N600 and from what I'm seeing, there's no ceremony for these ones? The agent said they seem to have everything they need on their end.
On September 11 the case status said a request for more evidence was sent but we never received it which was why we called today. But the agent said no letter seems to have been sent at all and that he's not seeing anything generated on his end.
But he did say that everything looks set and that he is on the queue for a ceremony???

Anyone have any insight or experience with this?

There is NO ceremony for N600 like the N400, even though the N400 ceremonies are shortened.

The N600 is just an in person oath, and goodbye.

No you have to change it at Social Security Office. Since they are closed you have to mail it in with a specific form (call them for that form). Also replaceing a Naturalization Certificate is not cheap.

Once you have your passport, a Naturalization Certificate isn't as critical. As the passport can be used as your primary citizenship proof.

Your stress goes down when sending the NC to SSA!!
