Yep that's it! The packets are digital now. The visa won't be stamped until you POE so don't worry when it arrives without one haha. The police certificate should be returned with your passport.
Thank you for your answer. Glad to hear it’s all digital now haha. I came to the U.S 10 years ago when carrying a sealed envelope made you panic.
My wife picked up her passport today, but the police certificate wasn’t returned. We don’t really care at this point since we had another original one from a more recent certificate she got just in case for the interview.

Does the embassy keep the original 1040 tax form and original Canadian police certificate at the interview ? When going through my blinder, I realized they did not give them back to me (and I don't think I lost them)
I was wondering the same thing about the police certificate??

My wife are ready to cross the border on Friday. I read through the FAQS, and there doesn’t seem to be any additional documentation we have to present at the border besides her passport with the Stamped visa. Is that all we need? Thanks

Here’s the link to the CR1/IR1 FAQS for guidance about different steps in the process:

How much time does it take to receive the email to track the passport sent back, after seeing the status Issued on CEAC ? I see the message "issued", saying I should contact them if we do not have it back within 5 working days, but i did not receive any email for tracking so far...
I’m actually interested in knowing the same thing. I checked today and it already says it should arrive within 5 business days, and there was this link:
https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_courrier_information
First of all, the link didn’t work. Then, when you go to the home page and follow the instructions to your respective country and immigrant visa, it asks whether you’re registering an appointment. I’m really confused. Why would I have to do that?
anyone in the group who got their passports back knows how to track it? Thank you

I had a question about the Green Card filing fee we have to pay after the visa has been approved at the consulate. The USCIS website says they “Strongly Encourage” people to pay after they have picked up their passports, but do you really have to wait until then? Just wondering. Thank you.

Awesome congrats! And thank you for the advice! I have one question, did they ask for a new I-864 like with 2020 tax info or the one you had already uploaded before you were DQ’d?
That’s a really good question. They asked for the I-864 we submitted the first time. We did bring copies of my 2020 transcripts and also the entire 1040 form just in case. I agree with you, I was suspecting that, because tax season this year has already ended, they might request our most recent taxes.
I would say, be prepared with your original I-864, including all other versions you may have submitted. we only uploaded this form once to the CEAC website. And then, have copies of transcripts for older years, but for 2020 maybe you can get the transcript and the 1040 form. Hope this helps
if anyone else has advice about this topic, please share your experience.

Alright, we finally made it back home. My wife’s visa was approved.
She went in at 9:30 am convinced it was going to be over in less than an hour. She actually spent 2 hours inside the consulate. I thought it was a negative sign since I was waiting outside for her. It was all due to the number of people being interviewed on that day, plus the very limited staff at the consulate. So if you go with your spouse, don’t panic if it’s taking more than one hour.
Same thing other VJ members have said. The original documents are requested at the beginning (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate, passport, and pictures for visa) she was asked basic questions such as:
-what is the name of the petitioner?
-where does the petitioner live?
-when did you get married?
-How did you meet?
-whats is your spouse’s phone number?
The only extra document she was asked for was the I-864 which, luckily, we had already printed. It’s always good to get copies for the interview just in case. After confirming some other details, the interviewer told my wife he intended to approve her visa.We are thankful for the community here, and the advice we have received. It certainly helped us navigate this immigration process in the middle of a pandemic.
One last thing, bring something to read since it is a long wait. Unfortunately, my wife brought a crossword magazine, but she forgot her pen so you can imagine how anxious she was lol.

Hey guys!
Real quick but my wife just got approved for the IR1 spousal visa! We are heading back to Toronto from Montreal at the moment - will post more details!
Just wanted to hop on to say thank you for all the support and advice - this group has been so helpful!

I second this. They should have copies of everything from USCIS and I've never seen anyone ask for a copy of the proof of relationship- but at this point, I'm so terrified of AP I'm bringing everything humanly possible. I'm even bringing a copy of our lease in the USA to show proof of intended residence, extra copy of I-864, print out of the DS-260 confirmation etc...
I’m on the same boat. We have printed out copies of everything in case they ask for it. I know, we all dread the AP. Wishing everyone good luck on their interviews. My wife and I have waited 2.5 years for this moment. Thank you for the feedback!

My wife has her interview this month. I wonder if we should print again our pictures together as evidence? We submitted a bunch with the I-130 before. I’ve only heard of people being asked for their original civil documents. Any advice? Thank you
-
In preparation for our visa interview, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with bringing a photocopied version of your 1040 tax form to the interview? I am aware that all documents have to be the original ones (birth and marriage certificate, etc.), but I typically E-file my taxes, so signatures wouldn’t be fresh on the pages.

Had a great experience with Dr. Zatzman, I wrote about it a few posts ago with a link to a review that will help you navigate the process there
Thank you, I will look for your review!!

I hope more ILs come either today or Monday. It would be unfair if the embassy only cover 1 week worth of DQed people. They can’t use the pandemic as an excuse anymore. I remember earlier in this thread someone was saying that they are trying to keep the backlog across visa categories balanced which is insane.
Congratulations to those who received an IL. This process has been painful and disheartening. Prayers for those who haven’t received an IL yet.

Guys,
Good news here. My wife just received her IL for August 16th. We were DQed Oct 2, 2020, IR1 visa category. They sent the email at 1:31 pm. Hoping others here receive their ILs soon. Thank you everyone. Having this group to cope with the wait and difficulties has been a great blessing.

Hello,
Maybe someone asked this before, but does anyone know if the land borders are requiring to be vaccinated when you and your spouse cross the border back to the U.S? I happen to be in Canada at the moment with my wife waiting for her interview hopefully for August so I wanted to ask. (DQed Oct 2) Thank you.

If you go back and read messages in this thread and the previous discussion thread you can get more detailed information about the challenges in getting answers from NVC or consulate. Short answer: yes multiple people reached out, NVC doesn’t provide a reason, they just say they book appointments when the consulate opens up slots.
Thanks for the response. I did read through the 24 pages of responses. I’ve had the same experience when reaching out to NVC. Yet again, really sad for all of us when there is simply no intention from them to give us an update. There is no way NVC would not know why they didn’t mysteriously have to book appointments for June. I am hoping we all hear something soon in June, like why do we even have to wait until the middle of the month to get our ILs, right? 😕.
-
Has anyone in the group reached out to NVC about why the Montreal embassy didn’t schedule CR1/IR1 interview for June? Like many of you, it is really disappointing that embassies have no communication with applicants. Who even keeps them accountable?

This is the longest the embassy has taken this year to send out letters for the following month. It’s hard to understand why they do it so late. We were DQed on Oct 2, 2020. Hoping we are included in this round of letters

Quick question perhaps with those with more experience in the topic. People who have been approved and have already traveled to the USA recently, do they qualify to any of the stimulus checks that were sent out prior to their entrance?? Thanks
