At your AOS interview you can attempt to get the name the way you want.

Just wanted to thank you again and confirm that this approach worked like a charm.

I asked them at my interview last week, my GC arrived yesterday and it shows all 3 names on the back in the machine-readable section, and only the first middle initial after my first name on the front under "given name". Exactly what I wanted. 👍

Hi everyone! Anyone here with I-485 AOS field office in Santa Ana? I have my biometrics done in August 12 and my case has been stuck "case is ready to schedule an interview" and I have not heard anything yet. I have my EAD and AP expedited and got my combo card on 21 Oct. But they did not expedite my I-485 because apparently my case is within processing time.

Should I try and expedite my AOS application?

I have not heard about the possibility to request an expedite to your AOS application. Maybe someone else can confirm this but I'd probably just be happy about the Combo Card and your newfound rights to work and travel and use those. :)

  3. Just wanted to update my fellow 'adjusters':

We had our interview last Tuesday and were recommended for approval. The card should arrive in the mail this week

It's been a long and difficult journey but now we can finally look to some normalcy in our lives again. This forum has been an invaluable resource to us!

    Dear everyone,

Last month I have filed for AOS and received I-797c and a interview date for my biometrics. In the meantime I have been bussy arranging my Arkansas driver's license. My written and skills test have been succesfully completed. But today I went to the revenue office and they only gave me a driver's license until the current expiration of my I-94, which is based on my K1 entry (until the 28th of October). They said I needed a I-797A or I-797B. I cannot find any information about how to obtain these documents. Does anyone have any idea? Is it normal to receive a I-797A or B later in the process?

Will the status on I-94 change automatically later on, when i ring it up at the DHS?

I'm pretty confused, any help is appreciated.

I would try to speak to someone higher up in your state's DMV. E.g. a DMV constituent office or something similar. Maybe they can re-issue it valid for one year.

I got my DL here in AZ with my I-797C valid for one year from the notice date, even though many people on this forum will just tell you "you're out of luck, should not have done the K-1". That is not just useless, but most of all false advice.

Yes it differs from state to state, and I don't know how yours will handle it but in the end it highly depends on who looks at your case and how much they know the processes and IT systems.

    Best of luck.

Got update this morning on I-485: "Request for Initial Evidence Was Sent"

Just a wild guess, but I think it is because my i-864 included tax years 2017, 2018, 2019 as I had not filed 2020 when I sent AOS docs as the deadline was weeks after I sent the AOS package.

At least though someone looked over the file. I will post once I get the letter in the mail with the RFIE details.

    Thanks for the update!

Do you think the timeline for your AOS is different from a K-1 adjustment, given you filed based on a pending I-130?

  6. My wife has listed her assets in her savings account with Bank A in the I-864 for my AOS. We view them as supplemental as she earns more than the required amount to qualify as a sponsor, but figured it would make her case stronger and included proof of those assets (account statement issued by the bank).

Now that we're married, we would like to restructure our finances, and move our savings from Bank A to Bank B (which offers higher interest, and is our joint bank account). Do you think we should hold off on that transfer until my AOS is approved?

I wonder if you were able to do anything with your noas at the DMV.

Yes, in fact I got my driver's license valid from 1 year from the NOA date on the I-797C here in Arizona!

It wasn't straightforward though, and it will depend on your state's rules and the DMV staff you encounter. See this thread I posted in for more info:

I read somewhere that it sometimes depends on who checks your case some people are employed by uscis and some are contractors, either or, some people are kinda laid back and take their sweet time to process cases. I think employees are allowed to get certain amount of cases and take them home for revision and come back to the office with their outcomes. Contractors just work cases on site. Now, I think that's their workflow or it's the other way around. Of course I could be misinformed and the info I read could be also not true. But, it makes sense to me.

Interesting, that sounds a bit sketchy but would explain it.

  8. I have searched the forums and a few people have posted about similar issues, however my situation is slightly different so I wanted to hear what other users would advise.

In Germany, middle names are legally all first names, which is why I have 3 first names and one last name. The three first names come out to 19 characters with spaces, like so: ABCDE EFGHIJ KLMNOP

It seems USCIS can only process 18 characters for the first name field. So on my hardcopy NOA, the very last letter of my 3rd first name is missing (the "P" in the example above, so the name stated reads: ABCDE EFGHIJ KLMNO).

This has already confused the DMV as it is the only place my name is written with that letter missing. My passport, my visa, my SS card, everything shows my name correctly but this newest letter from USCIS. I am worried that USCIS will actually do the same for my Green Card and other documents in the future.

Should I call them or file an e-request for a typographical error?

Should I try to change the 3rd first name into my middle name?

    Other options?

Thanks for any advice on this!

  9. Keep trying with different DMV locations, employees, DMV hotlines (level 2 support), etc. If none of that works, see if there is a DMV constituent office you could involve.

The DMVs are able to use an I-797C to look you up in USCIS' SAVE system.

I also applied for a DL in Arizona, and while the DMV website clearly states you need an EAD, and after being told different things by every operator I talked to, I kept trying until I found the right person in the right location who knew what they're doing.

They issued my AZ DL valid for 1 year from the NOA date shown on the I-797C yesterday.

And I agree, this is something that should be addressed and fixed for the presumably thousands of immigrants who end up in the same exact situation every year, causing unnecessary stress for us and costs for the DMVs across the country!

  10. Craziest thing... I called the DMV again, they told me they can't really see much on my DL application in their system so I should go back in. This time I went to a different MVD (the one in Tempe). They were much more on top of everything than the first office I went to.

It took them a while (another hour for me in there) but in the end they issued me a DL valid for 1 year from the NOA date! :)))

    Update!!!

The reps at the Arizona DMV don't have access to process a driver's license extension based on a pending AOS

We contacted a manager in the office of constituent services at the DMV. He was able to extend my husband's driver's license for one year (one year from the date on the AOS NOA) with a copy of our marriage certificate and an AOS notice of action letter showing the application is being processed. They were able to verify his information through the SAVE system.

    Wow that is interesting.

Can you tell me how you contacted this office? And which DMV location(s) did you go to before that?

I literally just returned from the West Phoenix one after spending an entire hour standing at the counter only to be told by them that SAVE is showing my AOS status as unavailable so they have to wait for that to change (2 days... 2 weeks... who knows) before they can give me a DL.

    Hi Ana!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but could please tell me when did the USCIS receive your application in the mail?

I haven't received my NOA so I'm curious to see how long it took for you to receive it (even if it's just the text message/email and other documents for now).

    Thanks!

Just chiming in: Have you found the AOS Filing and Progress subforum? You should get a pretty good idea of timelines comparable to yours in one of these threads:

Or, filter the timeline database by NOA date.

    Hope this helps!

Where are you viewing a link that's tells you (by city) how long Noa1 for your I485, I765, I131 will take?

    https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/aosstats.php?history=90

Actually it's 4 days for Phoenix... granted this depends on how diligently VJ users fill out their timeline but still I thought it would give at least a rough estimate -before Covid it did.
