  1. Anyone have experience with their children traveling alone with a green card? I have a 13 year old traveling overseas for the summer to visit relatives; however, he will be traveling alone. He received his green card about 7 months ago and this will be the first time he will leave the US. He'll be overseas for about 2 months and then come back to start school. I'm just concerned customs will give him trouble, but I might be thinking too much.

    thanks.

Our I-130 was approved at Texas on Feb 25th. After much perusing the forums I’ve noted a lot of people have received their case file numbers.

    Two quick queries

    1. Do both petitioner and applicant receive the same email?

    2. Considering NVC are processing cases way after the approval date, when is it considered appropriate to email or call them for guidance?

I’m hoping we’ve not fallen down a crack somewhere 😢

If you don't receive any emails, you can call NVC and they will provide it to you over the phone.

We submitted all documents for me January 21 and my kids at January 24. March 25 we got a message from NVC, they wanted my husband’s divorce decree in my case. He submitted it. Also he immediately submitted this document in cases of my kids too, it was 25th of March. 2 days later we got DQ for my kids and all documents were approved, including last one at 25th of March.

That's great news. Just curious, why didn't you guys submit the divorce document initially?

I guess it depends of the petitioner's Health Insurance plan. In our case, we are working on it with my husband so that I am added to his Health Insurance (weardly they have only one month in the year (which is November) when you can add someone new to the plan 🤔).

Yes that's normal, the open enrollment for most companies' heath insurance is around that time, which is the only time he/she can change their plan. But some offer exceptions due to life changing moments like marriage, birth of a baby, etc.. those events the company lets you make changes within 30 days of the event.

  5. Reading another thread about the police certificate requirements got me thinking:

"If 16 years or older and living in another country for 12 months then that person needs a police cert from that country."

What if that foreign person was over 16 years old and was studying in the US for 8 months on a student visa. No need for police cert.

But that same person came to visit the USA multiple times on a ESTA years later, each time for about 2 months, so total including student visa and ESTA would be about 14 months.Do those ESTA time count?

  6. I've been reading up on the income requirement to file an i130 and we need to prepare 3 years of tax return.

I've lived overseas the last few years, working for a foreign company and i have been filing US taxes.  I moved back last summer and got a job here making over the required limit and I just submitted the i130.

The lawyers I met with all said I am fine with the income requirement but what are your guy's experience or what have you read? Should I have gotten a sponsor?

If so, do all US citizens who worked overseas for a foreign company need a sponsor if they file for an i130 only after moving and working in USA for less than 3 years?

Also, there were a few comments about assets... Do the assets such as high bank accounts and properties help in this case?
