I guess that's the question. Does she need to be a resident of Thailand?

When we requested a transfer from China to Japan we had to prove my wife was a resident in Japan before the the embasy in Japan agreed to take it. I also had to get the help of our Representative's office involved to push the trasfer along.

I see. Did you get a 48 month extension letter? Were your fingerprints reused? Those are the ones I'd expect.

Turns out the letter was for a biometrics appointment. The appointmeent wasn't too far out from the NOA date. However, I had to reschedule since we're still traving. Rescheduling online wasn't difficut to do at all. Trying to call the number on the NOA was a painful automated mess.

The MyUSCIS and case status website still show the case was transfered as the last action.

  3. Informed Delivery shows I got a letter from USCIS today. It’s probably a coincidence  that we got a letter a few days after getting back to the US.

The problem is I don’t if it’s good news or bad news since we’re out traveling for a few more weeks. The myUSCIS site isn’t showing any update from a year ago.

Hopefully it is good thing. just posting so others know there’s some more movement with the May cases.

    😃

  4. If your case is anyhting like mine, you'll be waiting a good while. It's going on 16 months since I applied with no movement.  Check the USCIS site you can find out the current processsing times.

If your traveling out of the country with an expired GC just bring the extention letter with you and there shouldn't be any problems.  We jsut got back from overseas and didn't have any problems coming back to the US.

  5. We had kind of simmilar experiance requesting an interview change.

My wife is from China but was a perm resident of Japan at the time. She lived and worked in Japan and took a temp assignment in China at the time of the I-130 filing. We requested Japan however, Per USCIS, she was resinding in China at the time so her case was assigned to Shanghai. After geeting the run around from USCIS, NVC, and Shanghai consulate we had to get our State Rep's and Senator's office involved. Eventually we were able to get our case transfered to Japan.

TLDR: you'll get the run arround trying to transfer your case. If you hit a wall you'll probably need to get your State Reps involved. I got my House and Senate Rep's offic einvolved. It was pretty easy to contact and they usually have staff to assist with immigration problems. If you're from a larger state it might be a little different.

  6. Just a note that www.healthcare.gov says if "you" move to the US it may qualify as a qualifing life event. It doesn't say if your spouse. So like others have said best to check with your HR department.

I added my wife before she moved here. It kind of sucked paying for insureance while she wasn't here but whatever, it is what it is.  Also, you don't need a SSN to add your spouse to your insureance.
