Why do you need approval to leave?

It really is interesting to see how other countries do immigration compared to the US system! Seeing how it is there it does make sense the OP considered spousal immigration first but it seems she worked it all out and properly went with the K visa.
 
@Kacey8361 Can you please explain what you posted in more detail? Who approved you to leave? The consulate? CBP? Is CBP letting you enter as a tourist? Have you entered yet? Its not very helpful to others to just have an update that says it worked out with out any details of exactly what happened.

Impossible! The vehicle I am renting is from the US - will be entering US in the morning. Was going to bring this matter to their attention tomorrow when I cross. 
 
at my interview last week the lady said to me “you must not leave, and then re-enter US before you are married” to which I thought “no kidding, why would I?” Then this happened.

Yes! Finally in administrative processing after checking 10x a day hahah. So exciting that you got your passport, @Thrillhouse! Is it a big package?

The package showed up in a Purolator envelope about 10" x 15" big. Inside is a sealed manila envelope (surprisingly heavy!) with another copy of the K1 pink sheet and a big "IMPORTANT - DO NOT OPEN!" notice taped to it. At first I thought that was the only thing in the package and almost had a heart attack, but my passport with the actual visa in it was floating free in the bottom of the envelope. I've been looking at it all afternoon ... I've gotten so used to keeping things on the down-low in case something went wrong that I'm having a hard time convincing myself to finally tell people about it, hahaha.
