  1. Hi, in early 2020 we submitted police clearance certificate for our daughter, she acquired from the Indian consulate in the US and we submitted it on the NVC portal. We got DQ and due to covid interview got cancelled and just got the rescheduled interview in Mumbai now.

The pcc is more than 2 years old, but since my daughter has not visited India till now. She will visit India just for the interview. Will she need a new pcc. As per the NVC website, we don't think she will as she never visited India in the last 3 years.

    From NVC website:

“Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

    • You are more than 16 years old;
    • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
    • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.”

I have been waiting for 2 weeks for my social security number so I decided to call the office today. They couldnt find me on their system and ask me to complete a SS5 form and send along my passport. Does anyone had to post their passport to their local SSA office?

looks like this page agrees with what you wrote, two original proofs of ID required: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/050515/steps-replace-or-update-your-social-security-id.asp

  3. Anyone who got an interview date and subsequently got cancelled: whenever this virus issue subsides, how are interviews re-scheduled again.

My brother logged into his ceac and the case status shows:  "At Mumbai", so obviously file has left NVC and is with consulate now.

will the embassy/consulate reschedule the interviews automatically or do we have to email them first.

  4. My extended family had interview scheduled for April 2nd in Mumbai for IV interview - I5 Visa, but now due to the cancellations, we don't know when they will restart and how they will reschedule the dates.

Does anyone if the consulates will automatically start reissuing the dates, because the files are not with NVC anymore, the case is at the consulate as per CEAC, so the its upto the consulate now to reschedule the dates.

U.S. Mission India posts, in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, are cancelling immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments from March 16, 2020, onward. Your visa appointment stands as cancelled. Once Mission India resumes regular consular operations, appointments will be made available and you will be able to reschedule. Please see www.ustraveldocs.com/in  and in.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ for further information.

  6. Relative has PCC from Chicago Indian consulate issued last year in Feb 2019 and she might get mumbai interview date in a few months after mar 2019. She still lives in USA, but has visited India last summer for vacation and went back.

Will she need a new PCC even though she doesn't live in India. The language on State.gov website is confusing, please see red highlighted below from state.gove website, I am thinking, not returned means, not returned permanently. Anyone who went throught the same situation, please reply?

After the printing status will change to "mailed" and a tracking number will be available on your case status on uscis website. Today being a public holiday, you will be getting your card by friday or monday next week.

Wow that's pretty quick, thanks for the reply. Will update this thread when we get the cards so others can have some reference.

  8. So we landed in US last month, paid the green card fees 2 months ago. Yesterday received Email that our OS155A have been approved. Online status shows "cards are being printed".

How soon after can we expect the actual green card in mail.

Will we get a tracking number when they mail it (I have an egov account, that's where I got the email notification from).

My address doesn't have informed delivery, so I can't track using that.

    Hi All,

I received a DQ email from the NVC yesterday 7/24. I have an expedite on my case once the documents are case complete the NVC will forward the case to the Bogota Embassy. Does anyone know how long it will take for the NVC to forward the case to the Embassy? I am having trouble searching this topic and when I spoke to the NVC customer representative he couldn't give me a timeline. I'm thinking a week or less, but any information would be appreciated. Time is critical because my wife is approaching 33 weeks pregnant and we have been trapped at the NVC process for nearly 3 months.

It takes less than 7 days for case to come to embassy after dq.

Just check your ceac status, it should change to in transit and then ready.

You can then contact embassy for the date.

I called up ustraveldocs and they tell me that NIV appointments are backlogged in all consular posts in India. May be very few slots are allocated for IV appointment

I read somewhere that NVC is mandated by the Immigration & Naturalization Act of 1990 (INA Act) that every year, all numerically limited category Immigrant visas should be completed fulfilled if there are enough cases waiting at NVC with DQ. The year ends Sept 30 every year. So for next 2 months expect NVC to maximise numerically limited category visas like F2B/EB2, etc to get priority in interview slots over immediate family slots.

If i remember correctly, 140,000 numerically limited visas are given every year all over the world, they need to ensure that all 140,000 are given out between Oct 1 to Sep 30. So last quarter - July to Sep will be busy time for these types of visas.

Quick question does anyone know how long to get the GC after arriving to the country and paid the fees, it’s been over a month and my husband haven’t got it yet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Under normal circumstances, If fees were paid before arrival, gc will arrive within 3-4 weeks of arrival date. if fees were paid after arrival in US, gc will take 4-5 weeks after paying fees.

But in both situations, it can also take upto 120 days for some cases.

Just to update those who are interested to know how long it takes to get the actual permanent resident card Aka "greencard".

After getting approved at the Lagos Consulate April 1,2019.

I paid the sum $220 on April 5, 2019, recieved the actual card today June 20, 2019. It took me approximately 75days.

When did you enter the US, time is counted from that day, not when you paid for it if you paid before entering US.

Hey, did your status in CEAC website change after NVC approved the expedite request like Case at NVC to Case at Consulate or you just recieved some email that the request has been accepted (How do we know the request has been accepted by NVC) ?

You will get a email response within 7 days after nvc email acknowledges receipt of your expedite request. It will either be expedite approved or not. Very clear message. If approved, case status will change to "in transit" and then "Ready".

    Very straightforward.

I would also like to point out that expedite is not a guarantee that you will get early interview. Right now in Abu Dhabi, there are two expedite cases waiting for interview, one got interview date for August, other has been waiting for two weeks without any response from embassy after expedite.

Oh well what a stressful  this week for everybody...very few IL’s given...Mumbai was unbelievably silent...I don’t think There will be any moment from Mumbai this month...may be because of summer break ..

Mumbai is definitely having a backlog for interviews, mid-march CCs got interview dates in May for June. So mid-may guys might get interview letters only next month for August interview.

Wishing everyone gets it asap, good luck!
