Hey all,
The wife and I are at a nice breakfast celebrating a successful green card interview in Chicago. The experience was easy. We got there 30 minutes before our interview time, and we were called in for the chat almost exactly on time.
They asked her the verify some some of the answers we had previously submitted (name, DOB, parents names, etc...). They asked for her birth cert and our marriage certification, both passports, and my (American) ID.
They asked when she last entered the country, and if she had been paroled. Then they asked how we met and how things progressed up until this point. She asked if there was anything else we wanted to add to the file, so we added some photos, joint bank account info, and our lease. They also wanted something in her name that showed her residency. Fortunately, the bank statement and lease showed this.
It was super easy easy and no stress. The interview took less than 20 minutes.
Now to enjoy these Belgian waffles!
She said aid she will have a decision made in the next three weeks, but also stated our case was “an easy one.”

Thanks for letting me know! Today I xeroxed every piece of paper he has collected in this process. He wants to bring his whole folder of ####### to Ireland just in case there is a problem on the way back (he only has the emergency AP -- no combo card -- and it's just a piece of paper...kind of sketch). I'm totally afraid he will LOSE EVERYTHING. Did they ask for anything besides your card and your passport? He'll also clear in Dublin, so that's helpful.
She had her combo card and her passport and that was it. We didn’t bring anything else as the airport people wouldn’t know what we were talking about.
She went in a room behind the normal customs officer station to get her passport stamped, much like they made her do when she came in on her K-1.

Quick update - cleared customs in Dublin no problem. Landed safely back in Chicago. Now we can’t wait to get our post and see when the GC interview is!

Just curious reading old posts...did you get to Ireland?? And did you get back in? My husband is leaving for Ireland to visit his dad for three weeks on Friday. I'm so worried they won't let him back in!
We’re sitting here in Ireland on our last day of holiday. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. We fly out in about 18 hrs. Customs is here on the Irish side, but we’ve been told there should be no issue and our combo card should work no problem.

Whoa! Much to our surprise, our status changed to “Interview is scheduled.” We are about to head out of the country for 2 weeks and haven’t received anything in the mail yet. No expedite. Changed address from Houston to Chicago 1.5 months ago.

Congrats! Did you use a job offer letter for expedition?
We used payment receipts for our wedding ceremony. These same receipts were our main evidence in our initial K1 application. Payments made over 2 years ago.

I’ll have to check but I don’t think so...

Thank you. He will call Monday. Unfortunately we cannot use financial hardship for expediting EAD or AP because of my income. It is very high. His father is ill and can provide documentation from his doctor but according to the AP expedite criteria that is not one of them. So obviously it’s a long shot. I guess we will try but it seems so unlikely in the next 7 weeks and like you he will go regardless and I guess we will refile. But he will need to somehow find an apartment in Ireland with no job and no money, get a job, do all the paperwork again, etc. I just don’t know that we can handle it anymore. It’s all too much and this has been so stressful and hard that we are close to cracking. I hate this whole thing.
Oh yeah we don’t have those sort of hardships. We had invested lots of money into this, so we figured that would be reason enough.
Humanitarian reasons are a reason to grant an expedite, and an ill family member fits that profile.

Can I ask how you expedited the AP? Did you call someone or something? We need to at least try this. My husband needs to fly home August 30th and the clock is ticking very fast. If AP doesn’t come I guess he will go home and we will refile as married but the financial hardship of having to get a new job back home and a new place to live for a year plus, etc. not to mention the long distance again....it’s all too much. Any advice greatly appreciated on expediting AP.
We called and spoke to a tier 1 person who took our request to expedite. We received an email after a few days asking to provide evidence and reason (from a list, financial hardship being one of them). The evidence had to be faxed in. We provided a cover letter and evidence that showed full payments of our vow ceremony. This was made before the k1 visa process started and was used as supporting evidence in our original case. We waited, and now this. We have to leave the country august 8th. We heard expediting could still take a month or more, so we gave ourselves almost 2 months....it’s all very nerve-wrecking because we would leave regardless and start the immigration process over.

Wow congrats!! Did you expedite it?
We expedited the AP. The whole process took 2.5 weeks and our evidence (for financial hardship) was payments on our vow ceremony predating the K1 submission. We didn’t mention EAD which is what makes me think both could go through.

If your case numbers start with MSC, then your EAD and AP are being processed at the National Benefits Center. It makes no difference where you live or are filing from
Great information. Thank you.

please select the I-765 Form in this link and you'll see what I'm talking about.
You quoted my screenshot of this exact thing. Maybe location difference — mine is Texas.

Did you apply for AP and EAD together? The EAD current processing time, which is the I-765 Form is 6,5 to 8,5 months.
If you applied for both, the EAD time counts more because the AP comes together with the EAD. You are not looking at the right processing time.
What my EAD says on the official site.

I think you skipped the picture above. The AP comes together with the EAD. It's the same card if you applied for both. Don't expect it sooner.

mine still says december. Not trying to be a jerk, I just have no idea where you are getting these extended waits.

It still says 3-5 monthis for AP. Inquiry dates December.
You may be looking at AOS.

I don't expect the EAD before September or October. There are still many people from November and December who still hasn't got their EAD yet. The processing time now is between 6,5 months and 8,5 months.
Please show me where EAD/AP takes 6.5-8.5 months...that seems like green card time range.

Look into expediting AP, I saw one girl did it exactly for the same reason as yours - a wedding planned back home - their reason to expedite was a severe financial loss. I think it took her like 1 month to even get the expedited AP card so if you plan to fly out in August, you may want to start the process at the end of June the latest. There are some threads for that with more information on VJ. I don't know more details. Good luck!
Well my wife is fully prepared to REDO THE ENTIRE K1 PROCESS IF THIS DOESN'T COME THRU! We were going to do an expedite after our relocation (which is this week!). Thanks for the info <3!

Congrats to those who are gaining traction! We are not in a major rush for EAD or GC, but more-so for the AP! We scheduled our Irish Wedding for middle of August (exclusive venue, limited availability!) almost 18 months back with full understanding of the timelines and pressures! I think we are masochists in the fact that we keep putting ourselves in close-deadline situations! All the rest have worked out quite well. Here's to one last moment of Visa Roulette...Flight out August 8th 😫

in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports

I know people are extra worried about what to bring to the greencard interview. One of the first things you see on the desk is every document, picture, etc...that you have submitted over the last few years. It’s all there. If there are documents you’d like to add (updated tax documentation, proof of joint bank, housing leases, updated letters of employment basically anything that has both your names on it that is new), they will ask you if you if you have anything to add, and you can add those then.
They do casually flip through some of the submitted documents and ask questions from them, but we had no use for all the documentation we brought in. I’m not encouraging you to forgo preparing your paperwork, please still be prepared for most any situation, but they have everything you submitted. And they are giving you the chance to update any of those documents or add anything.
They didn’t approve us on the spot, but mentioned it being an easy case. She complimented my wife’s wedding dress as we included more photos for proof. It was very easy. Our status was updated before the day was over.
