If you try to board a plane on March 12 or later you won’t even get past the check in desk at the airport with an expired visa.

Should work on march 10th cause it's already the first day of your third year. If you don't make it by march 11th you can ask the embassy for an extension but it's up to them and you'll need a good reason why you couldn t make it any earlier. Getting the unconditional card is not a good reason. If you don't get an extension you'll have to start all over again.

Your visa will expire on the day your medical expires. So March 11th would be the last day to travel. It might be a bit risky to go on March 10th or 11th in case that the flight get canceled and you won't enter in time but it will work. If you make it you'll get the unconditional card.

    Hi Guys,

I have been following this forum for a couple of months and it has been very helpful. Wanted to share my journey as well so that it can help ppl around as well and we can document DS 5535 supplement questions cases (Pakistan)

My husband applied for a CR1 visa for me and I had my interview on August 28, 2019. My interview went pretty decently (I had assumed it had gone pretty good actually), the consular asked me basic questions and I was prepared with all the evidence, tax transcripts and basically anything and everything that they could possibly ask me.

One question that the consular asked me was where have you traveled (I had travelled quite a bit due to my work and because i like to travel) so I told him my countries. He wrote all my answers on his computer- that was the only thing personal that he asked about me while everything else was related to what my husband did, his finances and our marriage (even marriage questions weren’t a lot because I had some a lot of evidence of our calls, photos and vacation).

Anyway I was told my visa was approved and to expect my passport in “one to two weeks.” However,  ten days later (6th September) I was emailed a 221g asking me to send information of my travels, social media, my siblings names etc i.e. the supplemental questionnaire email.

We didn’t expect this and so cautiously filled the form and asked a lawyer to look at it on our behalf and see if we had filled it properly - we then sent it on 16th September. During this time my case on the ceac website kept on updating - 28th August (Ready to AP), 30th August (AP- case updated), 6th Sept (we got the email and case date updated as well), 13th Sept (AP case updated), 16th Sept (we replied to their email and case updated the same day). After our reply the case updated on following dates:

20th Sept 25th Sept 27th Sept - we emailed to check if they had gotten our response and they replied back to us that they did - so case updated because somebody must have checked our case before emailing us back. 2nd October  3rd October  7th October  18th October - we emailed the embassy asking if there was an update but we only got a formal reply of being in AP 25th October - this is where we got the small change or “mailed/ available” to “mailed or available”. For me this change gave me some hope since I had read some encouraging stories - my husband on the other hand laughed at this and he said I was overthinking. I like to think this was my silver lining. Lol 28th October- AP 5th November Issued 6th November issued (And then my CGI portal started updating and I could track my visa). i hope this posts helps. I think on CR1, girls do have it easy - I read another couple of girls in Pakistan who almost had the same timeline as I did. From 28th August to 5th November - I was in AP and DS5535 questionnaire for some 68 days. Lesser if I count the time from when I submitted the form (sept 16th).
Total updates on case when I had not sent an inquiry were 11 if I don’t count my interview day.

I feel and this could very well be an assumption on my part but successful candidates are usually told “they would get visa in one week” - some case (including my own) - we were told “one to two weeks” and maybe this is one sign where they keep us in AP. The only other one is of travelling. I had gone to Turkey thrice, Dubai (these countries could be a reason), otherwise all other countries were in Europe of places like Thailand or Srilanka. Again I can’t be sure if this was because of travelling. I am not much of a social media person- so I doubt anything could be a trigger there.

This is just loud thinking on my part. Best of luck to everyone here waiting!
  7. Thanks

hello, yes this is a very good sign,
at first from reading from other posts that this is irrelavant if the / changed to or.
but a guy two weeks had an update and the / changed to or and the embassy contacted him after 4 days and told him to submit his passport as he was under administrative process,
also my wife today received an update and it changed from / to or, but my son is also under AP, but it hasn't changed to or.

Not everyone gets asked for these additional questions but many do it means they want to look more into your situation.

YES.  It is best practice to provide an I-864a from a joint filing spouse whether they have income or not.  Just do it.  This is neither my first or 1000th rodeo on this subject.  I'm losing patience here.

You haven't bothered to read those form instructions yet, have you?  The same number as on the I-864.  It's the same tax return.  Her "current income" will be zero.

Household member signs where household member signs, but a household member is NOT a "joint sponsor".  The joint sponsor signs the "sponsor" section of the I-864a AND their I-864.

You would need both a new I-864 AND I-864a.  Since they don't file a joint return, their taxable income information will be different on their forms, but you still combine it on her form in the section made for combining income with a household member.
  16. Thanks
SABB reacted to pushbrk in Submitted explanation for not filing taxes but NVC asking for tax transcript
Husband is part of her household but, because they don't file taxes jointly, theoretically, he does not need to provide an I-864a.

If you did not file a tax return for either year, you should put 0. As for "evidence to support this" you can simply write a statement with your personal data, your total income for that year and that your income was below the filing requirement of $X,XXX for that year for your status.
  18. Thanks
SABB reacted to pushbrk in No Income (merged)
No, it is not correct.  The number is zero, if you didn't file a return.

Yes, because the sister in law is not a permanent resident yet and may never be.

Complaining will accomplish nothing.  What I wrote is for "the reader".  You've already dealt with your issue.

i think she still needs to file the returns even thought she did not earn anything.  She would have got all back in the refund.

The instructions say it may be typed or handwritten, and does not state anything about signing, so no, you don't need to have it signed, since it is just a letter of acknowledgement why taxes were not filed.
  23. Thanks

What kind of address is it?  A village, community district, a post office box or something similar?  2.b Can be the first line of the address you would mail a letter or package too, it can be literally anything the local postal service would accept (The embassy will hand the package to EMS or another trusted local courier).  I also don't live on a street in China, I would write down the name of the community I live in and my building and flat number on that line.
  24. Thanks

We never asked the OP why they didn't file the tax return or returns but usually it's because the income was below the filing threshold.  This whole issue could have been avoided and can be avoided by others, by simply hand writing on the available space " See last page" or "Not required to file.  Income below threshold."  If you say see last page, type "Not required to file.  Income below threshold." in the available space for additional information.  Unless the reason for not filing is so complicated an actual letter is needed to explain it, my recommendation works every time it has been tried.
