My husband went to his interview in Sept and admitted to smoking weed. He received a 1 year drug ban. He knew that lying could get him a permanent ban though so he stuck with the truth.

They asked him about that at the medical exam not at the visa interview. He had to see a doctor and a psychologist because of his DUI but once he admitted it, ho would’ve had to see both anyway.

The I-601A is now invalid as it only applies to the inadmissibility due to unlawful presence. Since he was found inadmissible for medical reasons as well, the I-601A no longer applies and an I-601 will be needed.
If he claimed to have not used drugs during the medical, DS-260, or in the interview, he may be hit with a misrepresentation ban as well. Also waivable via the I-601.
Yes, showing rehabilitation efforts is a positive.

Unfortunately from what I've seen, things have slowed at CDJ in the last 2 months. Our CC was March 23 and we just got a date for Sept 12.

We checked the box on the DS260 for the social security card to be automatically processed but we had heard it was hit or miss whether this happened. My husband waited just over 2 weeks and when he didn't receive it, he went to the social security office. They told him they didn't see anything indicating it had started processing so I was definitely glad he didn't wait for it any longer and had the office process it for him.

I had heard you have to enter the US for the green card to start processing. My husband entered 3 weeks ago today and we are still waiting for his to come in the mail, hoping it will be here in a week or two.

You can pay the immigrant fee as soon as you pick up your DHL package which contains your passport and visa and some other info. You will need the immigrant's "A number" (also known as the alien number or registration number) and the DOS number (CDJ......, your case number basically). This info is contained on the actual visa.

The instructions state to pay the immigrant fee before crossing the border back to USA and that is what I did. When he had to stop at the border before coming back, the agent "lectured" those crossing over about paying the immigrant fee, but never asked for proof. My husband just told the agent that he had already paid.

However, I'm not sure if paying is what triggered the card to start being processed, or the crossing of the border after having paid.

So yes you can pay and are instructed to pay before crossing, but I don't know if your timeline will be the same as ours since your husband is not crossing immediately.

Also, do not follow the link in the packet provided by CDJ on how to pay the immigrant fee. It's wrong. Follow the instructions on the first page of these monthly threads. CDJ appears to be using old and outdated info. More info on my previous posts in this thread.

    Hope this helps.

From what I've seen, I think you will be scheduled in the end of July/beginning of August for a September interview. That is if they keep up with the 21st CC date as the cut off. Our CC date is 3/23 so we are hoping for a June/July letter for an August interview. They usually schedule the last week of the month into the first week of the month. For example without the holiday, it would have been May 28-June 8 to schedule July interviews.

My husbands appointment was on the 22 in Juarez and today at about 2 we got the email that his Visa was ready for pick up! He already crossed the border to El Paso, Texas rented a car in the airport and is on his way all the way to Fresno, California (like 15 hour drive) so happy and excited 😊

My husband got approved in Ciudad Juárez! What a weight off our backs!!! After 2 years and 6 months we're finally done with this 😊😊😊😊😊
He said they asked him the date of our marriage and asked how many times he had came to the U.S. he said once then they asked if he's ever had an 'intento de entrada' (don't know how to say it in english) and he said yes! Since about a year before he came (10 years ago) he had tried coming but got cought in the process and got kicked out. And the only papers they asked for was our marriage certificate and his birth certificate and that's it!

You should get an email this week that will tell you if you need to bring anything additional to the interview. Then it's hurry up and wait:(
