@Crazy Cat I just tried to send you a private message I got an error message saying " you cannot receive messages "

Thanks.  I appreciate that.  I uploaded a self-written letter as extra evidence or unsolicited evidence (same place as I uploaded tax transcripts). In the letter, my wife merely gave them a brief history and requested a combo interview.  @Family  made the suggestion and made a prediction that my wife would get an interview in about 3 months.  Did the letter work?  Well, we got the interview in about 3 months.  Her official I-751 status is still "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview".  I expect it will be either a combo interview or a waiver of the I-751 interview.

    Reminders about Green Card Benefits

You can use your Green Card to:

    • Prove employment eligibility in the United States when completing the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
    • Apply for a Social Security Card and a state issued driver’s license.

A Green Card is valid for readmission to the United States after a trip abroad if you do not leave for longer than 1 year. If your trip will last longer than 1 year, a reentry permit is needed.

First question is about how she well get it done in Canada?

Also she does qualify for Health Insurance as a US PR.

My mum is from Ivory Coast, that's where I am originally from and where she plans on getting the Eye Surgery sorry for the confusion

For Health insurance she does qualify you are right but private plans are so expensive and since she didn't work here she doesnt qualify for Medicare yet according to my research, (we are in MD) and I cant add her to my health insurance through my job

But If you have any tips for me I will gladly accept about affordable health insurance plans. She got her GC in Dec 2020

Over 6 months triggers a  break in continuity of residdncy for naturalization purposes.. over 12 months triggers the question of failure to maintain lpr conditions .. not difficult to overcome if strong ties are maintained .. but for safety i would recommend she applies for a reentry permit which gives her up to 2  years out of the US without any ussues with reentry. She can apply, stay in the US until she does biometrics, then leave and pick up the permit at her overseas US consulate. She may plan for only 9 months but you never know what may eventuate

I see thank you for clarifying

  5. Hello VJ community,

I hope I posted in the right forum.

My mother has a 10 year GC, she lives with us and helps take care of our children.

She needs to get Eye surgery but since she doesnt qualify for health insurance here, and has to handle some personal affairs back home, so early next year we are planning for her to be away for about 8 to 9 months.

We were told that the time limit now for a permanent resident to be outside of the US without having to request a visa has now changed from 6 months to a year is it true? I searched online on the USCIS and didn't find any recent update.

All I could find thru Google is that if you spent less  1 year and 1 day outside of the US you can travel back to the US without a travel permit/visa request but of course it will be at the discretion of the immigration officer.

Anybody heard anything about this recent change or have a recent experience about this please?

    Your help will be appreciated

    Thank you

I hope this is the right forum for this.

In September 2020, I entered the US on a CR-1 visa obtained through DCF. In January 2021, I submitted From I90 to get a GC in my married name. I did my biometrics for that in June but it is still pending. Processing times show up to 17 months. In the meantime,  I lost my wallet with my Green Card in it last week. I made a police report. I called USCIS but the bot couldn't/wouldn't redirect me to a person. I chatted on Ask Emma and they said USCIS will call me back within 3-30 days. Hoping in the meantime someone could advise - do I have to replace the lost GC? This would be another $540 in fees and God knows what the waiting time on that would be. Can I travel without the physical GC? I had international travel planned in the next couple of months.

I am not too familiar with I-90 but look into the possibility of getting a I-551 stamp at a local office. for your trip

You will have to call the 1800 plead your case to speak a level 2 officer that will then schedule an Infopass appointment if you are able to convince them.

    Good luck

  7. Hello all, thank you for quick responses and shout out to the US embassy in Abidjan,  Cote d'Ivoire that was very quick in handling my mother's case.

Quick recap and how the issue was sorted, the green card was lost at the airport on January 15th

We sent the email requesting an appointment with all necessary documents as outlined on the embassy's website on Monday January 17 at night.

Tuesday Morning at 8 AM the embassy called my mother and asked her to come in that same day at 1PM.

They interviewed her that day and did all necessary verification. They took her passport to put the boarding foil and told her to come back Friday between 8 and 10AM for pick up.

Friday morning she picked up the passport, and Friday night she was on the plane back to US.

With the connection she arrived in the US precisely in Atlanta on Saturday and went thru immigration with no issues.

This was a costly and unfortunate event but I am glad it was sorted really fast.

Now that she is back I am going to file for the I-90.

    Thanks again

You might just need to file for the replacement.

    Read this post:

The person was coming from Canada which has a direct border with the US.

For my mother this case is impossible as she is coming from west africa and she is transiting thru France so the airline and french officials will not let her board the plane without a visa

  9. Hello all,

My mother unfortunately lost her Green card during a trip overseas.

I have started the process for her to get a visa to be able to come back.

    I am filling out I131A ( source:https://ci.usembassy.gov/information-for-lawful-permanent-residents-lprs/ )

Now on part 3, question 5A it asked: " Have you ever been issued a travel document"?

Does the travel permit issued during the Green card application process applies for this question?

She was issued a travel document and work permit during the application process using form I131.

So If we respond yes to 5a, then the next question asks for the disposition. Should I put expired there?

And provide a brief explanation in part 7 as explained in the instructions?

Your help will be greatly appreciated please

    Thanks

Got a deficiency notice for the I-485 Package (AoS for B2 married to USC)

    Says:

    - If interview, bring it

    - If no interview, RFE for further instructions

Biometric date was given for later this month

    Questions:

    1. When is a good time to complete the I-693?

    2. How long is a I-693 valid till?

    Thanks all

It is best to wait for either the interview letter or the request by mail to get your medical exam done

Wondering how much notice everyone had between receiving their biometrics letter and the actual appointment? My I-751 was received 4/15, NOA1 5/3 MSC center, haven’t heard anything since and I know some people have waited up to a year for biometrics.

The UK just made entering the country much easier and after not seeing my family for 2 years I’m desperate to go back, however I’m worried we will miss the biometrics appointment by being away for 10 days. We are moving to a new house in a couple of weeks and don’t know anyone to check our mail for us while away.

Any advice is very welcome!! Thank you.

It is really hard to know but here is my timeline:

    I751 file received April 29th

May 14th check cashed and extension letter sent

Today I received a letter for my biometric. The appointment is scheduled for August 20th and the letter is dated July 24th

  13. Hello April filers. No news or movement on my file since May 14th when they sent the extension letter. No news on biometrics waiver or not so far.

I was wondering after 90 days, meaning Mid August, can I call them and inquire about biometrics or that would be early to do so?

    Timeline: I751 received April 29th

    Extension letter sent May 14th

2 years GC expiring July 11th

    Assigned to YSC Potomac center

    Hi Everyone,

I have moved to Virginia about 6 weeks ago and submitted Change of Address online through USCIS website. I have received my interview notice for green card (marriage based green card) a few days ago, and it is scheduled at Texas. So considering the long waiting times for interview,

1- Should I call USCIS and tell them about this error?

2- Should I attend the interview and let them know that I have moved to Virginia and submitted CoA and it's basically their error to schedule in Texas?

3- Or submit a new CoA with another address of my relative in Texas, considering that our jobs are actually in Texas (working remotely in Virginia), and we haven't still changed our driving licenses?

    Thank you for your help!

    Option 2 definitely

@Nouchigang You might want to recheck the amount you need to send in.  It should be $680 total ($595 + $85 = $680). If you send in $765, that's the wrong amount and it will be rejected. Hope this helps.

(Attaching the exact amounts listed below from the USCIS website.)

How silly of me, yes I am totally wrong on this. And I even did my check for $680, brain fart moment probably half awake after nursing baby. My apology for the wrong information 🤦🏾‍♀️

Just an update on this. Package was returned for incorrect fee on 06/14. My $680.00 money order was lost or never made it to them.

I put the money order in a small envelope with the label "Money Order".  I should have just put stapled it with the documents.

Dont forget the payment should be $680+$85 biometric fee which adds up to $765

Si your money order is probably somewhere hidden in the pages.

That's why it says incorrect fee

Only 3 for me because I didn't file an I-131.

But I ran into another problem.  I checked the box for "Mailing address is the same as the physical address so they only updated the physical address so I did another and put in the same address for both.

I remember checking that box too and it didn't cause any issue.

    Well sorry for the hassle

USCIS systems really suck and still we are held accountable if something goes wrong.

I hope you get all your mail at your new address going forward

Anyone else run into difficulties with this.  It seems to be a fairly fast process compared with anything else with USCIS, but the accuracy is lacking.

We had I-130 and I-485 filed.

In early April we sent in an I-765 app and had to use the old address because we were still there.

The end of April we moved and I did the I-865 for me and a AR-ll for my wife.

The AR-11 (wife's) seemed to work although the city name was wrong but close enough the mail would find us.

The I-865 receipt said it worked but the online account profile addresses hadn't changed.

So I put in an AR-11 for myself and that worked after a few days but when I did the AR-11 I checked Mailing and physical address the same so when I was notified the address had updated I found the mailing address was still the old one.  I put in another and forced in the correct mailing address so I hope that fixes that.

Then we got the I-765 receipt and apparently because it was filed with the old address, that overwrote the address back to the old one on my wife's profile so I'm putting in the AR-11 again.

It would be so much easier if I could just go in and edit the addresses in the profile but that would be too easy.

The best way to update the address online is to change it individually for each receipt. Or else for some reason not all of them get updated.

    So 4 receipts, 4 AR-11.

I had a similar issue when I tried to update it all at once.

Also as a precautionary measure, change the address with USPS. They will forward your mail for free for 6 months
