How do I know what my service center is for my EAD? I applied for the whole 485 package from a K-1 visa and I think the package was shipped to California but I live in Texas so is it the Cali or the Texas service center for me?

I do have foreign income in 2019 but it's very very little, probably 3-4k at most so I think we would still gain a lot by filing jointly.
-
Thank you guys, this has been very helpful!

The W-4 can be submitted at any time. It takes effect moving forward only (you can't change witholdings from the past, although you will get the right amount back at the end of the year still).
So how do we make sure we get back the right amount on the tax return? and does it count the whole tax year or from our marriage date or when does the lower tax bracket kick in?

The change will take place starting from when she submits the new W-4 with her employer (or more precisely, the next pay period after they process it).
The resident alien aspect only plays a role when filing federal income taxes. That will apply for the entire tax year if filing jointly.
Hmm ok but I guess what I am asking could she have submitted the W4 the day after we got married? or is it based off of when I count as a resident alien? in that case she could've only changed it in late June.

The form to adjust paycheck tax withholding is a W-4. That can be changed at any time. Otherwise it will come back as a refund when you do taxes at the end of the year.
Thank you! Does the change count from the date we got married or from the date when I am a resident alien? I don't pass the green card test but I have been here for more than 180days in 2019 now.

So I just moved to the US on dec 30th last year and am currently waiting for my work permit and green card. As I understand it my spouse should be paying a significantly lower percentage in federal income tax since we got married in February. But how do we go about to make that happen? is it best to just let things be as they are and then file together for the whole year and get a large tax refund? or can we somehow change this now during the current tax year so she gets to keep more of every paycheck instead?

I see you're from Sweden! (or your spouse is). Fellow Swede here! 🇸🇪🙋🏼♀️
Japp, jag är från Göteborg och börjar bli otroooooligt trött på den här utdragna processen. Det är verkligen värdelöst att inte kunna jobba och bidra 😡

When are you considered out of normal processing times? Our PD is March 18th and we haven't heard a thing since my fingerprints 103 days ago. 😩
I'm in exactly the same situation as you and my date is March 19th. When I checked earlier today they counted anything before March 9th as out of normal processing times so hopefully we can send in our inquiries in 10 days or so.

That's why I said half, some of you are genuinely helpful and half are just having fun feeling superior and adding nothing of value at all.

So glad I made this post so half of you could get on your high horses and yet again say what an idiot someone is seems to be the thing to do around here.
I am not in any way saying that the system is unfair or that I couldn't have looked up every processing time and detail beforehand but I still think that it is an incredibly dumb and inefficient system. It isn't good for society as a whole or for the individual but it is what it is I guess.

first thing first and go to social security office and apply for SS# as of right now. After you have applied for SS# then get married in the courthouse and file immediatly for AOS/EAD/AP, so you can get these documents sooner than if you wait pointlessly till February 16
We have our whole families coming over for a large wedding in February, we aren't just waiting for no reason.

I don't think it costs society.....and the sponsor of the K-1 immigrants assumes all support.
Of course it costs, I could be working, creating value and paying taxes and be a productive member of society.
Instead I have to sit here completely idle, there's a huge loss there for both the individual and society as a whole.

This whole process is just unbelievably stupid.
Must cost society a fortune to have tons of people not being able to join the workforce for the better part of a year.

That really sucks, I'll have to wait several months before I can start looking for jobs then.
How long is the processing time for the work permit when you send in the whole AOS thing after marriage right now??
-
I just came to the US three days ago, December 30th on a K1 visa and I of course wanna be able to start applying to jobs as soon as possible.
We have set our wedding date to February 16th.
With my K-1 folder I got a pink piece of paper with info about entering the US and it said that I could file a I-765 form to be able to work right away but now that I look into it a lot of websites are saying that the processing often takes 45-90 days so I wouldn't get it until likely after our marriage in February anyway.
Are there any benefits to filing the I-765 right now or should I just wait until we're married??

We're also jan 22nd on the old website and jan 25th on the new and haven't heard a word yet. Have tried both calling and filing the service request, last day to hear back is sept 19th on that.
-
What number do you guys use when you call and ask about your case??
-
I also just got the email for 2 weeks non-activity. I guess that means they touched our case july 19th?
There's no change in the activity log though so weird that they say they "took action on our case" two weeks ago but they don't say what they did.

This "new" USCIS website everyone talks about, what is the adress to it??
I'm a little confused on what is the new and what is the old website.

The latest approval in an order (other than those random Novembers that happened to a few) is September 29. October will most likely start next week.
Do we know how many applications have come in for the coming months? is it a roughly even number for sept, oct, nov, dec or does it vary a lot?
