UGH so I just got a reply for my request to extend the I-129f expiration date and got this reply:

We encourage applicants to pursue their K-1 visa applications as soon as possible, since the validity of the I-129F petition is only 4 months.

Although consular officers have the authority to revalidate the I-129F petition for another 4 months, they are not legally required to do so for every case. These decisions are rendered on an individual case basis at the time of the interview.

Yeah, that's not stressful AT ALL. :(

I just sent an email today asking to extend the validity of the I-129f. It's written that mine expires on March 3rd, and my interview is the 13th.
I think that they should be aware of how long they're taking for the process, and the expiry dates should have a larger window to reflect that. I've been doing everything the same day as I am getting word from them to do so..

  2. I emailed the embassy directly to ask about the criminal record check and this is what they sent me.
You need to go to the RCMP detachment and ask for a criminal record check under the privacy act.
In the space where they ask for the reason (there HAS to be a reason or Ottawa will reject the search), they need to write "RCMP National Repository Entire Holdings."
I got mine back in exactly 10 business days and it says CMP-PPU-030

To ensure full disclosure of criminal record information, U.S. diplomatic and consular offices in Canada require that you obtain a copy of your criminal record REQUESTED UNDER THE CANADIAN PRIVACY ACT based on fingerprint-based searches from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  To obtain a copy of your criminal record under the Privacy Act, you must submit your fingerprints to a local police service or RCMP-approved partner agency.  YOU MUST STATE THAT YOU ARE REQUESTING THE RECORD UNDER THE PRIVACY ACT AND NOT GIVE “VISA APPLICATION” AS THE PURPOSE OF THE REQUEST.  You must also specifically request the record which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire holdings.”  Failure to follow these instructions exactly will lead to a document that will not be accepted by the consular section.  While the Government of Canada does not charge for this service, designated fingerprint collection companies may charge their own service fee for processing.  Once processed by RCMP, the document will be sent directly to you and you should then provide it to the requesting U.S. embassy or consulate.  Applicants previously convicted of a crime in Canada should expect the process to take several months.

  3. No waiver granted for the personal appearance of minor children under 14.
My $500 flight just turned to $1900. 👎😣
I understand why they want to see every applicant at the interview, but it doesn't make it any less a pain in the #######. lol

Does anyone know if I will need 1 affidavit of support for the family, or will I need an individual one per person?

    *research time*

  4. My initial plan was to book flights to Tx for a couple weeks after the interview, but I don't think I will because with my luck, and having 3 k2's with me, I don't want to hold my breath that AP will only take a day or two.

I read that for kids under 14, you can request a waiver so they don't have to appear in person at the interview. I emailed the embassy today to inquire about that, so we will see what they say on Monday likely.

I'm so excited for all of us! It's hard to contain.

  5. The issue I had recently (last month) when I did this, was that the RCMP detachment told me to contact the US Consulate or Embassy I am involved with to ask for EXACTLY what is needed because a "certified fingerprint based criminal record check, under the PRIVACY ACT" does not exist.
The RCMP office told me that there is either one or the other, and they cannot physically do both in Canada. I can have either the certified fingerprint based record check, or the record check under
the Privacy Act (which is not certified).
So I emailed the consulate to get solid clarification, and they replied with:

So I printed the email out to show the embassy when I go to my interview (if there is an issue... I don't suspect there will be but it's always "better safe than sorry" during this process)
At the RCMP detachment, they put the request as under the PRIVACY ACT, and wrote "National Repository entire holdings" as the reason for request (as to NOT write it being for a visa, because Ottawa wont accept the search request under the privacy act if there is no reason listed 😊

Also, it took exactly 10 business days for me to receive the completed criminal record search back  in the mail.

  6. After waiting over 2 weeks for my P4 after sending my P3 (and receiving confirmation about receiving my P3 documents and forwarding them to the Visa Unit), I decided to send an inquiry to Montreal yesterday asking for an update.
Well, I just got this email back from them... asking for me to send in all my documents again!
How frustrating this process can be! Hopefully I don't have to wait weeks again before receiving my P4.

    Hello!

I received confirmation of my P3 on Jan.22/2019. I am still waiting on my P4. How long is the usually wait time? Most people on here as I’ve been looking  received it within hours. Also, how do you go about paying the $265 MRV fee. Another question is - my USCIS copy i received in the mail with my P3 had the approved stamp but then also says that it expires Mar.8/2019. What happens if i don’t get an interview before that date?? Super worried about my timeline.

    Thank you!!

I can only answer the first part... I have currently been waiting 2 weeks for my P4 to arrive (Sent in P3 on the 14th and got confirmation that they received it on the 16th)
But it says on the hard copy of the P3 to:

    Quote

"Please allow 6 weeks for the review of your case, after you send the required documents. Upon completion of the review, the US Consulate General in Montreal will send you a Packet 4 letter with instructions on how to get the medical exam done in Canada, and how to schedule your immigration visa appointment."

That's the same email I received 2 days after I sent in my P3.

  9.

Has anyone signed up and created an account on the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv website before actually receiving P4?
I'm curious to see what it looks like, but don't want to do anything to get a "it's too soon" notice or worse since the first page says:
(nothing has made me more paranoid with my actions than going through this journey.. haha)

    Hello,

My husband arrived on fiance visa back in June and we applied for his ssn after 3 weeks, before we got married.  Then we called a month later and they said they would not process his SSN until his employment authorization is accepted.  It has now been 5 months since we got married and turned in all the applications, and still no employment authorization or SSN.  But I am reading other peoples threads and everyone is saying they were able to get their ssn within a couple weeks of applying?  Is our experience unique and should I contact a lawyer to see what's going on or is this something that other people are experiencing while applying for AOS?

Hi, I just came across this information in another thread I'm following. Could be helpful information with what you're looking for.

"This is what works but you have to have all your "ducks" in a row including the SS document RM10211.530 to use in the event that the SS agent is unfamiliar with the regulations that permit you to have a SSN before your AOS and EAD are adjudicated.

As a K-1 Visa Holder you are eligible to receive a SSN upon producing a valid I-94 (unexpired). Do not wait until you only have a few weeks left until your I-94 expires to file for a SSN. Many SSA (Social Security Administration) offices will not allow you to file for a SSN if your I-94 is about to expire (generally 14 days prior to the expiration on your I-94). On the other hand, you should also not file for a SSN too soon either.

You should wait 1 week after arriving in the US till you are in the SAVE database that you can go the next business day. If you go too soon your record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet (what is SAVE), and it will require manual verification from the USCIS. As this will add weeks to the period it takes to process the SSN, it is advisable to attempt to wait the two weeks to be safe. If you have waited the 2 weeks and they tell you they cannot verify your arrival record via the SAVE database, then personally return on another day to have them search again -- thus eliminating the manual verification (you don't want to do the manual verification as it adds so much more time to the process).

To apply for a SSN you will need to go to your local SSA office and bring the documents below. These documents are proof of your eligibility to file for a SSN:

The SS-5 form  download and complete the application (they have some at the office if you forget).

Your Passport (with the K-1 Visa attached)

    Your valid I-94

Another form of valid ID (birth certificate will do nicely)

You should also print and bring the document RM 10211.530 , in the event that the agent is not knowledgeable that K-1/K-2 are eligible to receive a SSN.

    https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

Make sure to bring all the documents above because some offices have staff that are not aware that a K-1 Visa Holder is eligible to file for a SSN. A friendly reminder is a nice thing to have -- if not you could be turned away incorrectly

Once you have successfully applied for your SSN, the SSN card will come in the mail in about 2 weeks.

K2 visa holders must first have a work permit (EAD) to get a social security number.

    After marriage

Carry your marriage certificate to the social security office to get the social security card in the new name. If you applied for a social security number before marriage, you can go back to the social security office after marriage and get your name changed on your social security card.

The social security card will be marked “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH USCIS AUTHORIZATION”.  That means, you need to get your EAD first before you can actually work.  Hopefully, when you submitted your AOS you included the EAD. If not you will now need to submit the paperwork for an EAD prior to working."

  11. Hi Everyone!
Happy to have found this thread.
Consulate received my package on December 31st, then my CEAC 'ready' status changed again on Jan 7th.
I sent in my P3 on Jan 14th without receiving my P3 letter.
CEAC status changed again on Jan 16th and I also received an email back from the consulate saying:

So here's hoping that's a good sign that I didn't jump the gun and send my P3 stuff in too soon, and that I will receive my P4 email any time now. 🤞

So our case number was assigned last week Tuesday, but on the CEAC website it still says "at NVC". I hope this doesn't mean we missed this batch, I was very optimistic we'd be on it 😥 Is this happening to anyone else, or is everyone with case numbers from last week in transit by now?

I was hopeful my package would be on this shipment too, but no such luck. At least ours will (should) be on the next one for sure! 🤞
