Same in Russia. There's even a formal invitation you can get for private or tourist visas (it's is actually required.) People often just assume what is true in their country is true is also true of getting a US visa. I understand the logic as to why people make this assumption but reality is the US just does things differently.

Just for clarity many people from West Africa especially Nigeria do this because these are the things we must do to get a Visa there. It has helped many parents especially to get invitation to birth or naming ceremony which is a very big deal. It just helps the situation to explain.
It sure doesn't hurt the situation.

I have no intention of fanning the flames here, but want to address several misperceptions in this statement, mainly for the benefit of other VJ members who may be confused by your assertions.

There is no difference between anyone's parents/kids/siblings in the process for B1/B2 visa applications, The laws and regulations are the same for all -- and none require action by you, the US citizen.

B1 and B2 visas can be separated in any country, not just yours (with the few exceptions where there might be a fee for a tourist visa and none for a visitor for business visa) -- and there is no difference between requirements based on a city within a country.

Everyone in the US has the "right" to invite their parents/kids (i.e., there is no law that says you cannot issue a personal invitation to your family member).  There is, however, no "right" to special consideration of a non-immigrant visa application if a US citizen, green card holder, or anyone else.

And, finally, what Consular Officers base their decisions on does not vary from one country to another -- they base their decisions on US law, which requires them to consider all non-immigrant visa applications as having immigrant intent until the applicant demonstrate differently.

we sent our all at once, and replied quickly (sent with express mail). EAD came first in January, then interview appointment in February, then approval in April. We sent in our Adjustment in August. We used the timelines and estimated waits for city we filed in to get an idea of how long the wait was.

    Hi everybody,

My spouse and I currently live in DC metro (local office is Baltimore) and are processing my AOS here. We would love to connect with other people in the area who are doing the same thing - either waiting for an update from AOS application, or if you have gotten your green card already

anyone from the area want to chat and share stories?

I think there may have been some misunderstandings here and I'm not defending anyone but right now - calling is not the issue I believe. I believe this is about submitting a case inquiry through the USCIS website, which currently should only be done by those whose processing times are now considered to be 'Out of Processing Times' - which at the moment on the USCIS website is showing 20th Sept 2018 as the date. I believe what others have been trying to say, is that it's not fair that someone who has been waiting from September and is awaiting a response to their case inquiry, is then delayed on getting an answer to their inquiry, because other people who are 'within' the processing times are making inquiries, when it's not really their turn to do so?

Everyone here is trying to support each other - and I don't think anyone meant any harm with their words, just trying to make people aware and be sensitive of what they are typing as there are numerous people who have been waiting 200+ days for their EAD/AP with no response and are still being told to wait a further 30 days. You have to imagine the upset and frustration for the people who are still waiting - if you're getting upset at like day 100-120-150, please please think what it is like for those who have been waiting for even longer than that.

No mistake! 👍 We all have to be our own advocate. We don’t know anyone situations and can’t judge. There’s literally no need for such hostility so I’m sorry for what others have said if they’ve upset you. Most of US are here to support and uplift each other through this journey. 🙋🏻‍♀️  I respect your choice to call and ask about your case and I hope you hear some good new soon! 🌻 Sending everyone still waiting lots of positive vibes and prayers.

I am also a November filer (NOA1 Nov 20th) and still to receive any updates on my case.

I was starting to feel very alone until I found this thread. I've been reading it for the last hour or so (so much that my eyes hurt) but it is SO nice to see that there are others out there in the same situation as me, thanks all for your amusing posts.

We all just have to keep our fingers crossed, keep ourselves busy and hope the waiting game is nearly over (please please please)!!

    Just thought I’d check in.

148 days and waiting. I feel like the wait is so much worse now we’re “past due”.

Fingers crossed for us all this week 🤞🏻

Thank you for the encouraging words.... I know we have not waited as long as others. The waiting gets tough. Especially when you need to work. But it’s encouraging to know others are the same, waiting patiently 😜. Ahhhhhh 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤯

I agree. I don't have a logical reason to give you but I wouldn't put trust in them to really care about who they process and to understand the implications of waiting for a good period of time and to live on just one income. It doesn't effect them, so why would they truly care? We are only but a number to them.

In terms of Jan approvals, I'd take them with a pinch of salt. People are reluctant to disclose expedites. I'm not sure why but maybe they may think why should they disclose an expedite whilst also having fear of being judged of 'skipping the queue' maybe (there could be reservation to avoid being judged). Some people do get lucky too.

It's interesting to see their processing though. During the good ole K1 times we seen many approvals kind of coming in around the same time for months. But AOS is much different as people are adjusting from many different things through marriage based (in our example), so I'm assuming that it makes processing illogical.

We are new to using this news feed and haven’t been on here for a long time!! But we are getting close to maybe getting our work permit (I-765) and our travel permit (I-131). They received these applications November 26, 2018 and notice date is November 28, 2018. Looking at visa journey it is saying we may hear something between April 15-28. Just writing to see if anyone else has a similar timeline as us and what dates they are at in this process? Is November 26 close? 😜

along with this....we are a little confused. We realize this is for the work card and travel card, and not the green card. We live in maine and it says green cards take 10.5-22 months. But so many we know from other states have got their green card at the 6 month wait. They never got their work card and travel card, the green card came first. I’m wondering is that normal? Do we have a chance of having this happen for us too? I realize each state is different.

I also can’t figure out what office our 1-131 and I-765 is at.....bottom of the paper it says national benefits center, MO. Is that where it is? Thanks for the help!

the ds3025 is complete and signed and the letter is addressed to me with case number and all. I really think they either lost my ds3025 or it is simply a mistake!

Whomever you spoke to is just ignorant then and doesnt know the K1 policy. It's stated in the I693 as clear as day. You can find MANY posts on VJ about this topic too if you search "K1 I693". I for one, have to inform ppl almost daily when this question comes up but there are countless others who know this is the correct procedure for K1s and post as well. I'd take a look yourself.
Good luck in whatever you do but when it's finally all said and done please be a spokesperson too.
PS the DS3025 and medical exam will never expire provided you completed all of the conditions of the medical exam and vaccination requirements and filed AOS within one year. They were speaking on the validity of the I693 which expires in TWO years as of Nov 1st, 2018 so there again, they were wrong and are clearly clueless.

My family have stopped asking now, they've kind of just accepted that this isn't a quick process. My husband's however...they're so confused by it all. When we first got together his mother even asked if he was sure I wasn't just in it for a greencard. 😂 Now I think she's baffled that it isn't quite that simple, and that I'm not an automatic citizen.

Ah well. EADs, APs and Interviews will come for us all, eventually. I just hope it's soon. 😂
