@MLR14 sorry please don’t misunderstand me. It’s just that’s a important information because many people are having the mismatch issue which is causing manual verification of immigration status (not I-94, so this is not about how many days you’ve been in the country- I went 2 days later too, some went a month later and still have this issue)

if they give you the letter that says you applied but there is no decision and they need to check through SAVE system, and it can take 4 weeks, and did never got the mail. This is what I’m trying to learn.

Yes I got the paper saying manual verification was required. The lady said it was because SAVE was yet to be updated as I hadn’t been in the country long. My information was all correct on the I-94

Yep mine was already returned for a while too. Then I got the letter from Maryland (through my local office so the mail doesn’t directly come to you) and the ssn number at the same day.

it was pretty funny as I opened one envelope telling me to wait for 2 weeks and then the next one was the card.

That's interesting. I received my card on Monday but didn't get anything saying I'd receive it in two weeks. Maybe I'll get that soon lol

Hi! I remember you guys from K1 October filers.... Congrats everyone!! I feel like this process is less stressful.

Im seeing GC approval after less than 3 mos these past few days. Hope we all wont wait too long!

It'll be amazing if it's that quick! I'm keen to get back to work. My office is one of the quicker ones looking at the processing times so I'm happy about that at least.

Thanks for the info! Do you know approximately how long after you apply will you be required to appear at the interview? I’m also in this process and would like to gather as much stuff as possible.

The time to interview varies greatly between local offices. If you look at the "processing times" tab you can find your local office to get an estimate.

  5. I am currently finalizing my AOS packet. I have been get mixed messages about whether or not additional evidence is required at this stage of a bona fide marriage (credit card statements, rental agreements, etc,), or is this just taken to the interview? Obviously we will be submitting the marriage certificate, but is anything else required at this stage?

    Hi all,

so I don't know if anyone would read this since the topic is from 2015, but I thought I try before I open a new topic. I'm trying to understand if it would make a difference (for obtaining a driver's license or opening a bank account with my future husband) if I apply for my SSN after marriage in my maiden name - if they say that I couldn't apply in my married name because it has to match the name on the visa or whatever. I'll be in New York City, although that shouldn't be different to other states. My problem is that I was planning on getting to the US only 7 business days before marriage because of the end of my employment contract and vacation days.

Thanks in advance (if anyone reads this :))!

I arrived in the states on the 12th, applied for my SSN (in my maiden name) on the 20th (6 business days later), got married on the 24th and received my SSN on the 1st. Honestly I received it way sooner than expected! But you definitely have enough time! Now I will return to the office to get the name changed on the card!

A K-1 visa holder is a legal alien allowed to work. They need an EAD to actually be authorized to work as well...so you can't actually work. But they are technically entitled to apply for an EAD.

Back when an EAD took ~30 days to receive, one could apply for an EAD before marriage/AOS and actually receive it (valid through the end of their 90 days).

This does not apply to any K-2 beneficiaries...they need an EAD or green card before an SSN since they are not authorized to work.

    Thank you!

  8. I'm currently filling out the form for my SSN as a K-1 visa holder who isn't yet married. For question 5 where the options are "legal alien allowed to work" and "legal alien not allowed to work" what did you go with? I am obviously not currently allowed to work as I don't have my EAD or greencard yet. However, it states that proof is required to obtain a SSN if you check "not allowed to work". How did you guys answer this questions/provide proof?

    Thanks!

Ok, thanks for not answering my question. You seemed desperate to get some sort of comforting news when you were going through your process. I just asked a simple question. Forget I asked.

You must have me mixed up with another poster as I've never posted a question on this site, and certainly wasn't seeking comport at any stage as I knew what I was signing up for.

I got my visa exactly one week after my interview but every case is different so it's really hard for anyone to predict this for other people

But you can't really ignore all advice then demand comfort from those you ignored, y'know! Honestly i hope it all works out for you and that you'll learn from this when you continue through the process as you could save yourself a lot of stress ☺️

Hi there, I'm slightly relieved in reading your post. I had my interview on the 31st July, they got my medical results that same afternoon. My case has been in admin processing since, then to ready, then to case received and now back to admin processing.

I'm hoping I won't have to wait longer than 9 days post interview to get an "issued" notice. How long did you wait in total from your interview date? Our wedding is booked for the 18th August and I'm FREAKING OUT!!! I'm also travelling with my 8yr old daughter.

I appreciate any info you're happy to share.

This is why they advise you not to go ahead and book anything until you have your visa in hand! You'll just have to cross your fingers that it arrived in time. At this point there's not much you can do!

  11. Like others, I'm just going with one extra checked bag then I'll have my and friends bring some more bits and bobs when they visit me. I'm not that materialistic and have travelled a lot recently so don't have as much stuff as some people. I'll be bringing anything sentimental in my hand luggage.

I agree with not bothering with small electrical items that you'll be able to pick up cheaply once you arrive.

  12. Some people found round trip flights were cheaper than one way so bought round trip and didn't use the second flight. Personally I used air miles that I earned on my airline credit card and by doing online surveys through e rewards.

For anyone using Line App to make video calls which doesn’t give call logs you can export your chat history (gives you about 6 months at a time) which shows call duration too and copy and paste into an excel document that way you can edit and remove any “sensitive” chat and Show call logs.

Ill be sending in a much abbreviated version with samples for each month. Some days we don’t text but call for hours every day.

For London this is a complete waste of time. They will not look at it!
