Ha, I saw that too, when I was a kid. I had relatives around Timisoara, so my mom and I have gone there by car 8 times when I was little and the iron curtain was still up. Experiences I don't want to relive. 

Question: Did they let you change your last name on the SSN without having a green card?? How did you do that? 
My military ID got made in maiden name as well, since I have no GC and they had to take my passport. Marriage Cert didn't help either. 
So I'm facing being put on everything needed for AOS with my maiden name and run and change it all after GC arrived. We wanted to avoid that actually. Blaghhhh  

So. I am going to have to move over to the March 2017 filers  (the February filers have gone quiet). I'm Janet. My fiance had his visa approved on October 25th  (in Algeria). He is supposed to arrive in the US on November 15th. Hope you guys don't mind me intruding and following you guys

Oh yeah, the cooking is challenging, mostly because of the measurements being unused. I feel like I'm taking forever for everything!
Also I'm still identifying food and other stuff... once I found out what what is it'll be better haha.

But I've switched to regular dinner cooking, so Scott gets his Lunchbox for work every day. Good housewife haha 

@KozmicBlues: Feel a big hug! It's a really shootty situation you're in and I can totally understand you being depressed. I won't say hang in there, because that's not appropriate anymore after such a long time. Try to stay strong, you're running through a test as a couple, and once this awfulness is over you'll have the ever after thing coming up and won't have to go through that again. Best wishes for your fiancé to get better!

Nah, surprisingly I'm really not bored at all. Finding myself something to do, sometimes Skype my bestie in Germany, that's it!

quick update: i ve just tracked my AOS package and shows delivered on the 5th, so my new wait starts again...i posted in the November 2017 AOS filers , but that group is still very quiet atm... wish I had all my March fillers there too..

@TearsOfBabylon i m glad you still busy , here I am oooverbored, I cooked everything, I explored all the shops in the neighborhood, cleaned the house a few times per day, watched half of the tv series available , skype and texted everyone that wanted or not to talk to me ....OMG and i still have a few more months to deal with this i ll go crazy by the spring..
 
 

Yay, got my social security card in the mail today! Applied last Wednesday, so took them exactly a week.

The visa and AOS are two different things.
 
The date is for how long the medical is valid to get the visa. You can for instance not have your medical done in January 2018 and then only have your interview for the visa in October 2018. You would then have to get a new medical as too much time had passed for the medical to still be valid for the visa. 
 
AOS is a different thing, the medical will be good to use for your AOS if you file within 1 year of your overseas medical.

I've got a little bit of confusion regarding the time for filing AOS before the medical expires.

My data:
Visa approved: 08/08/2017
Entry USA: 09/22/2017
Wedding: 10/26/2017
Admission stamp in passport until: 12/20/2017
Expiration date of medical according to visa in passport: 01/17/2018

We wanted to wait until January to file AOS, because then my husband will have the new tax return.
Since he only has one so far, which was enough for K1 (just had to submit the most current one), we wanted to wait for the new one so we can provide 2.

My questions:
Does it bring any problems for AOS if we go past the date of the admission stamp?
I've read of so many people on here who did it YEARS after they entered, so I figured a month wouldn't be a problem. Please correct me if my thought is wrong! Is it enough to mail out the AOS pack before the medical is expired, or do we have to have a NOA1 dated before that date? What is the latest date you'd suggest to mail out the package? Do they actually need 2 tax returns, or are we good with the same stuff we've submitted with the I-129f?
I don't want to have to take another medical just because of waiting for the tax return.

1. You can file for AOS after the i-94 has expired, since you're married to a USC the overstay will be ignored.
 
2. Your overseas medical will be valid and fine to use if you file for AOS within 1 year of the date of your medical.
 
3. It's always recommended to file for AOS as soon as possible after the wedding, preferably while the i-94 is still valid. It's not a requirement though and there is no "latest date". Just be aware that once the i-94 has expired you're out of status and technically deportable.
 
4. If you look at the i-485 form and its instructions it should say that only the latest tax return (2016) is needed. Since 2017 years taxes are to be filed in April 2018 they might RFE you and ask for the latest one (2017) if your case is still pending by then. Or they can just ask you to bring the latest tax return (2017) to the interview.
But for now all you have is 2016, so you send that. You can send tax returns for the past three years, but it's not a requirement.

Oh yeah, all this stuff is sooooo expensive, and one more big chunk coming with AOS

Well.... really surprisingly I'm doing very good so far, being at home - stuck (no car, no license yet - only leaving the house with Scott. But I've been and still am busy turning this bachelors cave into a household. Also we had the wedding prep, a lot of traveling, buying things, furniture, and so on. 
This will change soon, since I can't work around here forever, and then I'll see! But until now I can't complain! I hope Ann will be fine too!

Right now we're debating on when to file AOS... a bit confused about it. Hopefully some VJers will enlighten me, hehe!

Went and got my lady from Manila. Had a awesome few days and did 2 tours one 5 hours one 3 hours in South korea. No issues and went thru poa in San Francisco. Asked a few quick questions did finger prints. Said you have 90 days to get married and said welcome to America. Smooth very easy process. Glad this is finally over. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

I feel like us having been turtles! I'm here for 6 weeks now, and we got married after 5 weeks. 
Still ok and in the time frame though..
It sucked because his leave got switched, otherwise we'd have done it earlier. Now waiting for the marriage certificate to arrive, so we can try to put me on all necessary papers, so we can start collection stuff for AOS. I'm so glad I did not deal with that at all until now haha
 

We've been so busy since POE.  We did the SSN - the guy at SSA totally understood why we needed the SSN and blurted out his explanation of why it was necessary to get it now.  Very technical and I just said 'yeah...... right!' lol  Waiting for it in the mail now.   Went to the courthouse and got our marriage license today.  Ann has a K1 visa in her passport that shows I'm hers, and I got the receipt from the courthouse today likewise!   Wedding is next Saturday.  The other day we picked out the spot for our wedding on the beach.  Found a patch of sand with some palm trees to decorate and make the perfect spot to do the ceremony.  Just a bit up the beach is Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Resort.  Since we are doing the ceremony at sunrise, we setup a breakfast reception.  I have family flying in and friends joining us; and for our family on the other side of the world, we are going to fb live it for them.  So for a POE that is just hours from being a week old, we've made some really good progress  

Finally, yeahyyyyyyyy we have an interview date. 11/16/17 in embassy Jakarta! Medical Monday 11/6/17......please be enough time to get the results before interview. Going to be close.

For those stuck waiting at some point in the process, just remember, you could be me and starting all over with the *thick Jersey accent* "Howya doin?" part. Still here cheering from the sidelines!

Welp, sadly my worries and fears were correct. His chest x-ray didn't come back 100% clean and they scheduled him for sputum testing. It will take 8 weeks for the results to come back. My heart is broken.  I'm staying strong for him because I feel so bad that he has to go through all of this. I will postpone the wedding and most importantly, figure out a way to cope with the fact that it's going to be at least another three months until I get to see him. 

I did look at the guide but I couldn't print that page out, we ran out of change at the library where we were printing out all the stuff, so I decided  that I could do without it Well, I overestimated their professionalism

I got the same info about the SSN. Seems like a waste of time to go there twice for those who don't need it to get the marriage license, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
