Was the lawyer present in your interview?

I find the second set of questions, especially showing the contents of the phone borderline of what is legal (unless somebody has references to relevant laws?) I wonder if the second set of questions would have been asked at all with a lawyer present. Kind of reminds me of another topic where IO was asking about LPR's cancer diagnosis (out of good faith according to LPR).

Uhmm no. We DIYd our case as it is pretty straightforward.

In retrospective I guess checking the phone could be seen as such. I didn’t care much; honestly I was relived neither of us had too personal stuff LOLOLOL

The second set of questions I noted were not ‘a second (or separate) portion’ of the interview. Just part of the discussion. And I highlighted them bcs both my husband and I were like: never heard of that done before.

I probably had a ‘reaction’ to their follow up question bcs lately everyone puts pressure on us. But it is what it is, and we were willing to show/answer as much as needed. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is the second time recently I have seen the question about kids asked at the combo I-751/N-400 interview on VJ. Honestly, I don't think it means they see not having kids as "sus" but more to gauge your answer(s) and reactions to that question. Pretty much every legitimate married couple will have at least discussed having kids and why/when/why not.

Yeah, I agree that it is/could be a valid immigration question if that’s their intent.

  3. Hi all,

I finally had the I-751 and I-400 combo interview.

Questions were the usual, and my husband was with me for both parts Removal of Conditions and Civics questions. Examples were:

    • To my husband: Where was she born? How did you meet?
    • To me: What's his DoB? How did you meet? How did he propose?

Two things that stood out for me were:

    • We were asked to show recent pictures from our phones, on the spot.
    • We were asked if we had any children, and when we replied we didn't they followed up with: And why not?
I suppose if you're in your 20s and have been married 5+ it's sus (?)

It took me a few secs to react to answer to that one question, but anyway be prepared for something like that.

    Cheers!

Nope, mine had to go through all of that too and I am 15 months into ROC.

USCIS is working really hard on new applications, I see super quick approvals fly left and right, but they hardly seem to touch ‘older’ cases…

My ROC was Filed in January 2020. My ‘Priority Date’ is Jan. 20th 2020.

And I’m still waiting… don’t know to laugh or cry at this point 🤷🏽‍♀️

But to the OP: Congrats!!! 🎉 One steps closer in being done with USCIS and immigration 👏🏼

It was about time. Good luck!!

Where is your I-751 pending, which office?

    Hi!

I-751 Starts with WAC. So that’s California’s service center I think— Western Adjudication Center. The last update (Feb 2020) says it ‘was transferred to a new office jurisdiction’ and I don’t know what that means.

I-400 was filed in Jan 2021. No news past the bio appts.

  6. Hi I-751 filers!

Quick update: I just received a 2nd extension letter; this one is for 24 months.

My 1st extension letter expired in September 2021. So they are very backlogged, yet they are trying to get them to us ...I suppose.

    Date Filed I-751: 2020-01-18
    NOA Date (Priority Date): 2020-01-21

Sadly, I take this as a sign of them not planning to speed up the processing times at all.

  7. The end of the saga - LOL

There was a minor issue that really stressed me out. Yes, the ADIT appt. was booked and confirmed but the link I received to download the appointment letter (that contains the barcode) would not work. I tried different combinations of my 1st name and last names. Capitalized variations, using a dash, etc. but nothing.

I called Tier 1 again (3rd call at this point). They could not fw the letter or really help me much beyond submitting ‘notes.’ And also they provided me a ‘service request’ number to identify the notes. That was it, I didn’t have much to print or prepare myself; I felt defeated.

Today, I went to the USCIS office and I got the stamp. The front office lady said the the ‘800 number people are sending the wrong links or links that don’t work,’ so she’s been printing all letters there as you check in. From there, I went to the lobby to wait for my number to be called.

I received the stamp which is valid for 1 year (until 2022). We’ll see if I’ll end up needing a new one 🙄😂

Just posting progress, in case someone gets to read this. Or, if your search lands you here.

Tier 2 didn’t call. Today Tuesday at 7:26 am PST, I called Tier 1 again. They submitted another ‘urgent’ callback request.

The only comment I was provided was ‘It looks like the Tier 2 can meet the 72 hours timeframe.’ 😞

I wish they had reprinted the letter to give us all other 18-months.

Finally today they called. There we no appointments in San Jose or SF. But I got to pick between Fresno or Sacramento.

Per the Tier 2’s advice I should bring anything to prove my emergency, bcs I’m going somewhere outside my jurisdiction.

For us, the agent who called us back, booked the appoint, and sent me a link to download the appointment letter which they instructed us to bring and show them.  We were able to get the stamp in my wife's passport and exit the office the very next morning.   Good luck.

So they booked your appointment for the very next day? That’s great! Can I ask how long ago this was?

  11. Hi!

I would like to hear from previous experiences (preferably from 2021) or advice about walking in an ASC or USCIS office, so I can receive a stamp on my passport.

My greencard and 18-month extension letter are expired (2020-Mar-28 and 2021-Sep-28, respectively), and I have intl. travel plans. My departure date would be Nov. 25th so I’m trying to get the stamp as soon as possible.

I have already called the USCIS number, the agent checked my info (since every document I have is expired and my trip is in less than 30 days), I was placed in ‘urgent’ queue to receive a call from a Tier 2 agent. I called USCIS Wed. 27th, and the 2nd call should happen within the next 72 hours but nothing yet.

My last hope would be this Monday. So if I don’t get the call, I’d like to try to show up at their offices. Has anyone done this successfully in NorCal/Bay Area? Or any other areas? Any tip or advice are welcome.

I’m planning to print my itinerary confirmation email (recommended by the Tier 1 agent too), the email received on Wed. that confirms I was placed in urgent queue., and bring the rest of documents that proves that I do need the stamp.

    TIA

Has anyone with a WAC***** number received updates?

My bio appt. took place on March 2021, since then no updates online or via letter.

Hi! Just wanted to post an update on my N400 progress.

So, firstly, I have to correct my own post I’m quoting above: that bio appt. made for March was for my I751 (Removal of conditions).

Those fingerprints got denied bcs I have very faint fingerprints (I was not surprised to get an RFE/an appt. to retake them on Aug. 13th). It literally said the FBI couldn’t accept them lol I received this letter via snail-mail on the July 24th.

The real update to the N400 happened right after: via email, I got a PDF letter saying I had a bio appt. for the N400 for August 16th. I had to download the letter from the USCIS portal though.

To avoid going twice, I called USCIS and the agent told me to go on Aug. 16th with both printed letters. I did so, and today morning my USCIS portal showed the N400 updated to ‘… Your case is actively being reviewed by USCIS.’ I’m hoping for a combo interview soon. I don’t think I’ll get updates on the I751 soon bcs I started that process by mail.

I hope this helps! Good luck to all of you, we are getting close to end our journey.

I am sorry this happened to you. You did the right thing by refusing to volunteer any information. Its very important to NEVER- NEVER EVER give someone calling you any personal info like confirming DOB or SSN or A#. Any one calling from a legitimate agency or office will give you their contact # (which you verify before dialing it back) and their ID#/ full name (which again you can verify when calling back). Unfortunately there are often data breaches in which scammers buy a list of names and phone numbers and then 'go fishing'. They either attempt to gather additional info from you like SSNs to then use for identity theft or fraud -or- the phone call suddenly turns into- 'I can make this go away if you pay a 'fine' of X dollars, give me your credit card number or even worse- buy a prepaid card and give me the numbers off it.' !!!! 🙄 It seems somehow you got on this list so I would suggest doing a basic security check - change passwords, scan your devices for malware, etc. You can also report the call to the FCC- https://www.fcc.gov/spoofing They also have general info on how to avoid being a victim of a spoofed call.

Thank you, Villanelle. I appreciate the words of concern. This was the 1st time I was targeted in such way while trying to take advantage of my situation as a foreigner. I feel better now, phew.

I'll get to work on updating all my pws as you suggest. I didn't think of it until now.

It might be a caller ID spoofing case. They spoof the real phone number so it makes it seem like the real place is calling you.

When USCIS calls people, at least from field offices, the number shows as blocked so they can't call back. And when a tier 2 officer called me once, it showed a random number that's not available on their website and I couldn't call back.

    Phew that’s reassuring. Thanks!

  15. I received a call today from a person that said his name is 'Ryan Reese.' He identified himself as someone calling from USCIS to inform me about this supposed complaint against me/my case. Then he asked if the embassy had tried to contact me (I haven't interacted with the US Embassy based in my country since 2018 when I moved here.)

The only reason I picked up this call is because my iPhone showed the caller ID as 'US GOVT DEPT OF.' Later, I researched the number 313-568-6049. It appears that this is ICE's number. So this is the 1st contradictory information: Why would this person identify themself as an USCIS employee, if they are calling for ICE?

The tone and manners of the person didn't seem professional either. He kept arguing saying 'You don't understand the severity of how this can affect your immigration case' and towards the end of the call he even declare 'I'll be sending an officer to your address today.' I decided to not volunteer any information, I kept asking for a letter or a ticket # to call back later (I was in the middle of my workday.)

I'm still startled by this conversation. But I know there isn't anything wrong with my case and/or relationship with my husband. However, I would like to hear if someone has received this kind of call. Or, if they call before being visited by ICE.

Great, thank you for being so helpful! I just got off the phone with the USCIS (took some work to get ahold of a human being) to confirm that nothing was lost in the mail and that they're not waiting on anything from us. No new updates on our case status, but the agent said everything looked ok, so it looks like we'll just need to sit tight and wait.

    You are very welcome.

We are all in this together, so I try to provide as much info as I can.

Funny thing is that my window to apply for citizenship will open very soon on Dec. 28. I may submit my file before the end of year.

Got it. Looking at your timeline, I'm guessing the February 7 update was regarding your transfer notice to the National Benefits Center? So the web app never showed anything regarding your biometrics appointments (your appointments back in March/April and even your new date in December)?

We use USPS Informed Delivery as well -- I've been watching it like a hawk for the past several months.

Yes, that was exactly the last update currently displayed. However, I did get a letter in March to notify me that my (1st attempt) Bio Appointment was booked for April 2nd (or 10th, anyway right during the lockdown). The letter update was never reflected on the myUSCIS web app.

For clarity, my updates on the app are showing in this screenshot. For detailed timeline information, you can check my 'timeline' from my 'profile' if you click on my name.
