And this is where this part of the process is so confusing to me.  Even if you look on the NVC website it says that the K-1 is a non-immigrant visa and that you should complete the "DS-160 non-immigrant visa application".  So, when I go to fill out our DS-160 I need to choose Immigrant even though their own directions say non-immigrant?  Wow...

Is part of my mistake. Read the options carefully. One of them says K Visa.

At our Embassy, Immigrant Visas can pay at appointments. Not K1 Immigrant Visas.

I MADE A BIG MISTAKE! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY SO MAYBE YOU DO NOT FOLLOW MY ERROR!

As soon as I saw "Ready" on CEAC, I completed my Fiance's DS-160 and then scheduled her interview. I had not received the Packet 3 from Ecuador yet.  In the beginning of the DS-160, you are given several options to choose from once you create the account. Such as, "I have received packet from Embassy and need to apply for NON-Immigrant Visa", "I have received packet from Embassy and need to apply for Immigrant Visa" or "Other". I chose "Other" since at that moment, I had not received the Packet yet. I had do my research ahead of time on the Packet 3. The Packet 3 on their website is not the same packet 3 they sent us. Imagine that.

I completed the DS-160 ok and even scheduled the interview. But I was never prompted to pay. Once I received Packet 3, I learned there are 3 ways to pay. I could not figure out the first 2, because of my mistake they were no longer available to me. So I called the Customer Service number 3 times. The 3rd call I had someone to help me. By default, I completed her information through the NON-Immigrant process. For this portion of the process, DS-160 refers to K1 as Immigrant. They had to cancel the interview, let me correct my mistake online and then redo the interview. The interview date was no longer available. I have already purchased a planed ticket and we have scheduled activities based on the first interview date.

I am suppose to call the Embassy back today after 2:00. I am hoping they can give me back the original interview date since it must still be available. I think maybe the system resets at sometime.

As I write this, my Fiance is getting her Medical Exam completed and I haven't told her yet. I am hoping she doesn't get home until after I have an answer about rescheduling the interview. My mistake may cost us 5 days longer to be together and the money to correct my plane ticket. I know is not that huge. But she is counting on me to bring her home and I SCREWED this up!

    UPDATE

I really don't like talking about myself but really hope this at sometime helps someone else. I am usually a very passive person. In this process, passive can work against you.

Long story short, I had to delete my Fiances DS-160. Then redo correctly in which I was prompted to make payment. All went well. I already have a one way ticket purchased so i can attend the interview. All ready have 2 weeks schedule off work and her family has all ready started preparations for a special Family Reunion to say goodbye to us.

I called the Embassy and spoke with a very nice woman in Immigrant Processing. They asked me to submit an email in detail explaining how I made the mistake. Maybe they need to change something in their process to avoid this problem with others. She said the appointments for the day we had are full. But, if I were to send my receipt for my United Airlines Tickets it would help to validate my story.  Anyway, they asked for 1-2 days to give their supervisor time to look over the details and see what they can do to assist me.

    Fingers crossed and praying constantly.

do be so hard on yourself.. we make mistakes.

just slow down a bit, you have to pay the visa fee first wait to get packet 3, confirm with the embassy that you have all the documents for the interview and then you can schedule. Also, even if the interview date was scheduled u need to remember that the medical package needs to be delivered to the embassy for them to make a final decision. (does your fiance get her medical same day?)

additionally, are you sure that the visa will be prepared and delivered to her within the stipulated time the embassy says? i think it normally is a rough estimate.... wait until the visa is in hand to reschedule ur flight ticket date.

    sorry this happened.

I assumed the process would prompt me to pay the fees. Because I defaulted through NON-Immigrant, it did not require the fees. The Packet 3 on the website stated that if the fees were not paid you could pay at the appointment so I was not alarmed. But I felt uneasy so I called today to confirm. Funny thing is, the Packet 3 has a date on it of May 2017. The Packet 3 they are using is 2016. I assumed I was working from the Packet 3 that was coming.

I only bought a one way ticket so I can attend the interview with her. Once she has her Visa in hand, we are traveling home together.

The Medical Papers are given to her personally today in a sealed envelope for her to carry to the Interview.

If I remember correctly, from what I have noticed through recent  posts of the people on this February 2017 K1 filers forum is all the people who send in evidence after an RFE request get approved within a week or two.  Also while reviewing some people's timelines this window of time seems to be a recent norm.  Each case would and can be different and with mine I am hoping for the same results.    My evidence involves records or lack there of of an incident of 20 years ago.  A restraining order violation.   Among other similar complications, I feel quite hopeless in being absolutely sure I'll be approved or in a quick fashion, but I may very well be, and I think I will.   But, then onto the NVC of which I have no idea if they will run a criminal check on me and see criminal reports connected to federal files which always exist.  My municipal file and county file was destroyed, but the federal file exists with a police report etc.   I hope we all are given a chance through an approval and that we do our best and succeed brilliantly and in a timely fashion.  Good luck!!!

You can relax about NVC. NVC, more less only assigns a number to our file and forwards to the Embassy. If you are able to receive NOA2, you will receive an interview at the Embassy.

    Hi all,

How do you pay the fee for the DS-160? I can't find anywhere online. Is this through the embassy in your partners home county?

You will find this information in the Packet 3/4 from your Embassy. We completed DS-160 and scheduled her interview before I received the Packet 3.

She had her Medical scheduled for tomorrow morning and we HAVE NOT PAID the DS-160 yet!

    😳😆😆😆😆

I have to call the Embassy to ask how to correct. I did not think the system would let us go this far!

Vaccinations are not required for k1 visas?? Is this new?

Vaccinations are not required for K Visas. But is required for AOS. I saw a list of 15 "needed" vaccinations. We talked to the Doctor who does the Medical Exam. He said with no shot records she only needed 3. We opted to do them now instead of waiting.

For those still waiting on NOA2 or NVC, reach out to your Clinics now for guidance!

Oh perfect, I will review. Thanks a bunch!

Has anyone started filling out the DS-160 form? If so when asked for the application receipt/petition number what number did you put? The NVC # or the USCIS #? Sorry if this is already in the thread, there is so much information on here its hard to find haha

    Thanks again!

We just did 2 DS-160's yesterday. I believe we never referred to the USCIS number for anything.

Be careful taking vaccines before the medical appointment - if u need any again when the medical comes around u can't take them until a month after the last set u took.

Just as a reminder. Vaccinations are not required for K 1-4 Visas. But are required for AOS. There are many discussion about vaccinations being done in the US for AOS. You need a (forgot the exact phrase,) USCIS Approved Doctor. Then getting the correct Vaccinations many have had problems. Plus the expense. My Fiance asked the Doctor in her country what vaccines were needed. She has NO vaccination records. The doctor told her to qualify for AOS she only need 3 vaccines.

The W2 is what your employer sends at the end of the year that states all your earnings for that year for that job and the 1040 is the individual tax return that shows all earnings for the year. It should not matter which form they see unless you have other income from other sources then I would show the 1040 tax return.

I want to offer a suggested correction on this comment.

" It should not matter which form they see unless you have other income from other sources then I would show the 1040 tax return. "

The 1040 shows many things the W2 doesn't. Example, number of dependents. Also money in certain retirement accounts, business income or loss. Interest from savings. Tax credits!

i would not arrive with only a W2. Use your 1040 AND any supporting tax forms associated t

    with it.

gi guys, two quick questions...please help if anybody has any idea about these.

    1) the bank statement that we need to prepare for the interview - is this in letter type (kind of like an employment letter for example) but just a bank letter that mentions your account details, when it was opened, how much the closing balance is and signed by the the manager? or is this kind of the the statement you get which shows day to day transactions, kind of like the one you usually get sent at the end of each month? we are confused, which one should we get?

    2) transfer of funds to the US - i am looking to wire transfer my savings to my fiance's account before my arrival. anybody planning to do the same? any tips / rules we should be aware of? tax implications? will this not raise any flags? what to say as purpose for the funds so that it is not viewed negatively by whoever may be "watching" etc?

your inputs would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!

    1. I have been instructed from several sources that financial records of any kind ARE NOT NEEDED, if the petitioners income passes the 125% Poverty Level.

    2. I have never had any money worth mentioning. If it were me, I would have my Fiancé bring cash or certified funds from the bank in their country.

    Best Wishes

I think the number is in the subject line...3 letters at the beginning and super long? Ugh, I wish whomever I spoke to the other day would have told me this. Either way, yay!

I have not received the email yet. But here is what the number looks like.

We are filing through Guayaquil Ecuador.

    GYQ2017668001

    GYQ - Consolate

    2017 - Year

    668 - Crazy date

001 - Number of applications for that day to that embassy.

    It's not your fault lol

I've literally been blaming him everyday because I have noone else to pin the blame down onto!  I told him to get a handle on it from day one, and not rely on someone else to tell him what to do!  I trust that he's sent it to the right place, but can't understand why we haven't heard anything.  I don't see what more we can do without a receipt or case number...

Just sucks, because we've been together for a while now and it's getting too hard and it's difficult now to try and see each other every couple of months.  I'm leaving work at the end of this month, so will just head to MN on my current ESTA.  I guess i'll just have to do a 90 day stay each trip until this is sorted!  That I can deal with especially as I'll be able to go back home to my family every 3 months, but not being able to work will be tough...

We filed with Rapid Visa last week, so I'm hoping they're able to get it through... fingers crossed!

    Jaya,

I know this group will give you all the help they can.

If you have any questions about RapidVisa, feel free to send me a personal message and I will try to answer. I have never questioned my use of RapidVisa. I will be using them to help with AOS as well.

Just got an email and am a bit confused. I called the NVC three or so days ago, and they said they hadn't gotten to our case yet. We weren't even in the system, supposedly. I want to update my timeline, because it keeps me on track/sane. What exactly is this (consulate received?) the email that states:

    Dear Madam:

The IV Unit in Buenos Aires received the I-129F petition that you filed for your fiancée. Please find attached the instructions and information to apply for the visa...

So funny. Your consulate has received your Fiance Petition. You are ready to begin the actual Visa Application. I just filled our her Visa Application and Scheduled her Interview and I have not received that letter yet.

I believe you need to call NVC and get your case number. You can not move forward without that information

    Hi guys

Hoping someone on here may be able to help!

My fiance who lives in Minneapolis (MN) filed our packet in February 2017.  To this date, we still haven't even received notification to say that they have received the packet!!  And I am going out of my mind!!

Every time we call the USCIS, we are told that there is a backlog and that they can't give us any further information without an application number.

I have tried to look into it further by checking processing times at the different offices.  Unfortunately due to my fiance's laid back nature, he has no clue where he even sent it to, so I am at a loss there.

We have now filed again this month through a company called Rapid Visa.

I was just wondering is anyone else was experiencing the same problem as I am?

    Thanks

    Jaya

    Jaya,

I will give you my opinion. This is based on you saying your Fiance has a laid back personality. I do to. But when I comes to something serious, I am very opposite. In the K1 Process, you have 3 basic options if you find it necessary to refile. Each option has a different level of difficulty and risk.

    1. Do it all yourself. Even with the help of VJ Members the difficulty and risk is very high if he is not serious and on top of the process.

    2. Assistance "RapidVisa". We used Rapid Visa. I personally would have never done this alone. Rapid Visa is AWESOME. With that said, they are only helping with "some" paperwork. You still have much to learn, research and prepare. Difficulty medium. Risk is still very high if he doesn't get more involved.

    3. Hire a lawyer. Much higher expense. Risk can still be very high if you do not hire a competent lawyer. Lawyers also have the potential to make things harder than necessary.

I have a serious comment for you. You and others may not appreciate this comment. This process is extremely difficult. If your Fiance is not pushing for your Visa on a daily basis, says a lot to me about his commitment to the relationship. This process will try every part of your soul. Even parts you did not know you had. I really wish you the best of luck. We will always be here for you.

I got a few updates last night / this morning of updated & approved March cases, seriously annoying.

I'd even be happy with a RFE right now at least i'd know they have touched my case and i would be approved within a week or two!

Don't wish for a RFE. Trust me! Everyone knows exactly how you feel.

Once you receive NOA2, time will fly by. Since you are so close, take every moment and familiarize yourself with the next steps. We thought we were ready until the time at NVC actually arrived. Then I was in a panic trying to do everything correct.

    Our dates:

    NOA1 - 2/2/

    NOA2 - 5/30

    NVC Received - 6/12

    NVC in Transit - 6/20

    NVC Ready - 6/21

Appointment at Embassy - 7/12 10:05am (I just scheduled this 6/22. My Fiance doesn't even know yet.)

From NVC Receive to Schedule Embassy Appointment 10 days!!!!!!!!!

Everyone still waiting. WE ALL UNDERSTAND HOW FRUSTRATED YOU ARE! Please take this opportunity to double and triple check your information and knowledge. She is a little frustrated with me sometimes because I work so much on the Visa. This is the most important date in my life. I WILL NOT FAIL MY FAMILY. Please prepare more.

  17. 20 minutes ago, Williamsnelson said:

Yes, call in the morning and find out whether it was sent electronically or via snail mail. If electronically check again tmr evening. Mine went from in transit to ready within 12 hours! Good luck!

Thanks for the idea. Never thought about that.

I find it absolutely amazing how each step is just as emotional as the last. I know there are those still waiting for NOA2. Sorry it is taking you so long. Stay strong. Your time will come. I promise. It will all be worth it!!!!

My husband has his visa interview this Tuesday but i am a little worried because at the medical exam he admitted to using cocaine but his last use was 8 months ago.

We have to daughter ages 3 and 4 he had lived in the US for 12 years he was approved for a I601a waiver. He had no previous criminal record neither had been arrested for anything his record is clean. I have heard that they normally put these cases on a pause for a couple of months or up to a year but ### well i have also seen cases were they approve them withiut any issue

please if theres someone out there with a similiar experience like mine i would really appreciate your opinion or story

Sorry no one responded to your post. Please tell me. How was his interview?

There are others probably better qualified to answer your question. This is an extremely stressful time for us all. Relax, see what comes, they only need help clarifying something so they can send on your File. If you need help, just ask. I promise. Once you receive NOA2, all wounds heal quickly.
