DeepInLove got a reaction from amul in Age gap, Religion gap, destination wedding on the beach
    Hi,
So here is my story, Sorry if it is a bit long.
I am a Muslim, single mom of two children, divorced ,  met online( doing a project) with this man. He showed me interest but I rejected as he was a Hindu, and 10 years younger than me. Time passed by, we decided to meet. But because of my Pakistani origin I couldn't get Indian Visa and he couldn't get US visa,  so we met in another country. Neither my parents were happy with all this nor his, he being the only child of his parents. After first meeting we decided to marry. To marry him he had to convert to my religion so he became a Muslim. We got married after a year in another country, being a destination wedding on the beach with no family members, Our witnesses were hotel manager and one of my now husband's friend.  Before filing for I130, I was very upset so I collected courage and posted my first post here on VJ, telling this story and asked for an advice. I got so many negative comments and everyone was just coming up with one answer that this is a difficult case and be ready to stay away from him for many years. I cried and became disheartened. My husband told me to ask admins to delete that thread because it was making me more sad and discouraging me to even apply for CR1.
So the thread was deleted, I applied for Cr1, but I put daily one hour reading Visa Journey, I read almost all cases, do's, dont's, prepared evidence. made trips. I did everything that I could, and case moved on, my case was very well presented and front loaded, so I didn't get a checklist or rfe. Now it was the time of the interview, for that also, I talked about everything possible to him. But he got so many tricky questions. when he was in interview, all those comments on VJ were still in my head so I was quiet sure that he is not getting visa this time and I even made him prepared for that. When he came back I was shocked to know that he got the visa, Wooohooooo. I am still in disbelief. This is the happiest news of our life. we both cried before and after the interview.

More tips on the interview below……
    1. Speak slow, and answer questions in detail. Stick to the question and don’t veer off the subject. Respond clear, and descriptive. Should not be longer than one minute to answer, but be sure to explain yourself.
    2. If you do not know the answer to a question, do not lie. Say, "I don't know the answer to that at this time." or "I don't remember."
    3. The answer to many questions will be in the papers that were sent in the petitions. Questions like, "what are your wife's parent's names". They will expect you to know the information given in your petitions. Review everything in your paperwork with your husband before his interview, and do a mock interview to see how the information may be applied.
    4. Avoid saying "I think . . .". Women do this a lot. The examiner will expect you to know not be unsure, of your answers. Alwife, avoid adding "umm", "you know" and "ahh" type fillers to your speech.
    5. When applicable, don't just state, demonstrate. If the examiner asks a question that can be answered with a document or photograph(s), provide it along with your answer.
For example, if the examiner asks, "What does your family think of your wife?", give them a picture or two with your answer; "They like her very much. Here is a picture of her with my mother at my home."
Or, "How many attended your wedding?" Answer, "(give a number, then say) We have wifeme lovely wedding photos of our guests having fun. Here are a few that I can show you."
    6. Give American answers for dates and times. 12/24/07, not 24/12/07.
    7. Dress well, but not overdressed.
    8. Try to appear calm, well organized, and friendly. Nervousness raises suspicions.
    9. Remain focused. If the examiner makes jokes, smile and enjoy, but do not make jokes too.
    10. Make proper eye contact when conversing with the examiner, and try to control your own facial expressions assure that your face remains pleasant and cordial.
    11. Be audible (means speak up) your examiner doesn't have to ask you to repeat your answers.
    12. Organize your papers in a way that will allow you to retrieve them easily and quickly. Examiners appreciate order and someone who doesn't waste their time.
    13. When the interview is over, always ask for the results. "What should I now tell my wife about my visa status after our interview?" Before you leave, have them explain any papers they give to you and/or any procedures they will be taking to complete your case. Try to get the examiner's name for future reference, if needed. Write it down. Remember to verify the phone number so they can contact you to pick up the VISA.!@! hurray@@!!!
    14. Arrive early to the consulate, but always be prepared to wait for a time past your scheduled interview appointment time. Be careful of thieves around the consulate if you have to carry cash. Bring ID; you cannot enter without it.
CONFIDENCE IS THE KEY TO ANYTHING!

Update your resume and cover letter with keywords from job listing.
    Make your Linked In Profile.
Expect to start low. e.g  your market worth might be in six figures. But accept 30%-40% lower, prove yourself in an year, build references, and move on next year to the new job with higher salary.
All they need a work experience in USA. So Expect to start low.
My experience, I started on -50% two years back, proved my self and Now I am getting what I am worthy of.
I have seen many tech gurus with not so good resumes. So first of all concentrate on your resume.
For Software development jobs, try to put all your skills summary in the beginning of the resume, before going in the details. e.g.

    Collaboration tools
    Azure cloud services
    Enterprise Integration
SSOA using C#.Net Web Services, WCF Services, Azure CI/CD
    Reporting Tools
SSRS 2008/2012 (MS SQL Server’s Reporting Service)
    Query Language
    SQL and CQL
    Databases
    MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012, Neo4j
    Operating System
    MS Windows 7/XP/2003/2008
    Source Control
    VSTS, TFS and GIT

    Apache Cordova, AngularJS

A few possibly obvious tips, in case he isn't doing these already:
Focus on quality over quantity. Tailor each application, cover letter, and resume to the specific job he's applying for rather than taking a "one size fits all" approach.  On the resume, use "action" statements with hard results. For example, "Streamlined database structure to reduce query times by 20%" or some other IT thing (I'm not in IT by the way ) I always highly recommend the blog AskAManager.org for ALL things work related. It's run by an experienced hiring manager who has seen it all and offers great advice.

    Hi,
So here is my story, Sorry if it is a bit long.
I would like to thank you all for support that you guys provided the whole year. specially @Yeonin in our January 2017 filers made it a lil funner for all of us January filers, who kept group and discussions active. I love you all. We met in Nepal very cheap, then we met in Sri lanka, that was also cheap, then in Malaysia, and last visit was for Thailand.
Nepal needs no Visa for Indian citizens, and rest of them has either easy online visa or visa on arrival.

Seeing that almost all Jan filers are through the I-130 Petition approval phase and for all that their Petitions are still pending approval, I am so sorry and I can only imagine what you are going through - stay strong and remain positive.

For all those that have gone through POE, how is your new life in the US? Anything interesting to share?

I did POE on Jan 6, I got my SSC in hand some 15 days after my POE (although the date on the SSC is 4 days after my POE). I am still waiting for GC and DL (studying the Florida driving license handbook)

Has anyone received their physical GC (Green Card) in hand yet? How long did it take to arrive from your POE date? (assuming you paid immigrant fee before POE).

    All the best to everyone!
