Thought this was a good idea. Tried to renew online and a big red exclamation point came up saying, not eligible for online renewal and to visit in person. My expiration date of my license  is tied directly to the extension letter for NJ and they want proof of status in person. My wife jokes in a few months I can show up and get my license since they legalized undoctumented immigrants to obtain licenses and techincally I'll be undocumented soon since I have no proof.

Latest update from twitter. Judges in Brooklyn filed office administered Oaths via WebEx. Pretty cool! Glad to see USCIS adopting latest technology 💻Hopefully that clears up the backlog quickly.

(1 of 2) 110 #NewUSCitizens were welcomed by @USCIS Brooklyn field office & @USDCEDNY today. The citizenship candidates appeared at the USCIS office in accordance with immigration law, while judges administered the Oath of Allegiance via WebEx.
(2 of 2) These ceremonies are an example of the innovative efforts between the courts & #USCIS to complete naturalizations delayed because of COVID-19. As a result, USCIS expects to complete all 110,000 delayed cases by the end of July.

There were no issues with taking in my electronics, I had to bring out my laptop and tablet as I went through security. There was a man on a phone call in the waiting area.

They're wearing masks as they interview you and there's an installed Plexiglass/Acrylic Screen between you and the interviewer. You also have to wear a mask as you interview and are still in the building. There is no contact with the interviewer, you show them your green card by pressing it to the screen and they have a small slot that they use to slide over your approval paperwork/oath ceremony letter.

I was directed to sit in front of Window 6 and I could see 4 interviewers in window 1,4,6,7.
14 people where in the waiting area including myself, about half of them where waiting for oath ceremonies. They had 1 person interviewing by the time I got there and called 1 more by 9:30. I was called for my interview by 9:37 and wrapped up by 10:26. He had my entire file, two huge binders.

Some small talk, which I saw him repeat with the next person he interviewed, he uses it to gauge how well you speak English, so respond accordingly.
He asked if I wanted to change my name and told me it was free and if I wanted to do it later, it would cost $600+. He did mention that if you were changing your name, you couldn't do your oath ceremony on the same day and would have to go to a ceremony at the courts.

Civics test first, then reading a sentence from the tablet and writing a sentence on the tablet. We then went over my current physical and mailing address and when I moved there, he counted to make sure I had the 3 month residency. Then we went over work history, he had me verify dates and those few days I was in between jobs, he added to my file and updated those dates as unemployed. Then we went over travel ans schooling history in the last 5 years, he even had a trip that I took in December after filing.
Then we went into the yes/no questions and I had to pay serious attention cause the words were coming so fast, we updated one of my work organizations, continued with the yes/no questions and the questions from the oath. After that he mentioned that I was recommended for approval, I had to sign that my name and file information was correct and I signed the oath, he told me to take my time and read it. He also told me there was an oath ceremony today at 11:45 am and asked if I would like to attend. Ofcourse I was attending. He printed out my oath letter and explained the attached form, the required documents, a brief on the ceremony and then I was free to go sit and wait for the ceremony or come back a few minutes before the ceremony time.

At most 4 people were being interviewed at a time at the windows and they called some people inside to interview.
There was a 10:45am oath ceremony that they called people for, I wish I was in that one.
People who finished interviewing around 11:30 were asked about going to the 1pm Oath Ceremony.

Eerily quiet in the NY/LI crowd. I suspect folks will start getting interviews soon. It looks like the NYC office is starting to reschedule naturalization interviews that were canceled due to COVID-19.

"She completed and mailed-in her naturalization application in April 2019. USCIS scheduled her naturalization interview for March 4 but the agency canceled it due to the coronavirus shutdowns. She got a call from USCIS saying her interview had been rescheduled for June 30. She passed — and she was sworn in the next day.'

Pre-COVID, from what I have seen across the forum, it looks like the system schedules all biometrics appointments for an upcoming week (1 month or so out in the future) on Saturdays. This is also supported by the below manual for the NASS system for scheduling of biometrics appointments that USCIS uses. I have included a link below if you are looking for a light summer read for the beach

Quote: NASS automatically generates appointments on a weekly basis, or USCIS personnel may manually expedite the process by requesting an appointment for certain applicants or petitioners directly in NASS.

    And the furloughs have begun....
Not many questions answered in terms of which offices are going to be mostly impacted, how many employees and for how long but I am sure that will come in time as more news outlets pick it up over the coming days. Key excerpts below:

"It’s unclear exactly how long employees could be furloughed, but USCIS expects them to last longer than 30 days....
...According to the furlough notices themselves, copies of which Federal News Network reviewed, employees will be placed in non-duty and non-pay status for anywhere between 30 to 90 days....
...“At this time, we do not reasonably anticipate the need for a furlough of 90 days or more,” the notice continues. “However, should additional furlough days be necessary, you will be issued another notice.”

USCIS just tweeted the below about an hour ago. I am most excited about the public services part. Things are hopefully starting to move faster soon!

Most of our field offices have reopened for public services & #naturalization ceremonies. In Fresno, #California candidates recited the Oath of Allegiance while in their vehicle, following our new safety precautions. Congrats to these #NewUSCitizens!

Yesterday I spent two hours trying to phone through to USCIS today at the 1800 number. After tons of frustration I finally got through to a human after punching random combos of numbers. I requested immediately to speak to the highest person in charge. All I was told was that my cases are that the local office and will be scheduled depending on the number in front of me. My I751 (pending 19 months) is super out of normal processing time and when I asked about what to do when my extension runs out, they told me right now they're not taking infopass appointments and to call back in the 30 days before it expires.

So my frustrations led me to a free consult at the local immigration attorney yesterday afternoon. He told me most USCIS office are "open", but they're not actually open. They prirotized oaths and are struggling to find a way to open "safely" for interviews. He said the offices in NJ/NYC want to move to video interviews, where you're still in the office but not face to face with an officer. There's apparently pilot programs of this in select states and they're working out the kinks. He said more than likely  NJ/NYC will begin scheduling at the end of July and start interviews in August/September right as they furlough. So this doesn't look like it'll ever end. As for my I751, that's where it came in that with lots of money  and forms to him that it could get approved faster.

I absolutely can not believe that USCIS can not open safely. Now most everything is open in NJ and I can go to the packed beach/boardwalk, eat at a packed restuarant, go to the packed grocery store or Lowes, but I can't get interviewed by USCIS because they out of all these places can't figure out how to be safe. I'm absolutely frustrated and over this and in a short time I'll have to fight on the phone for an infopass appointment for my I751 because I need a license to drive for my job (they've already brought it up that's its expiring).  Sorry to vent here, it's just extrememly disappointing and frustraing that they can't figure this Covid safety thing out and also plan to lay off 70% of their worker at the same time, while giving us absolutely no answers or direction.

Thanks! This is consistent with below:

    NEW YORK OFFICE UPDATES
    1) As USCIS Field Offices reopen on June 4th, the New York Field Office remains closed. We have been directly informed by the District Director that on June 15, they will resume Oath Ceremonies for approximately 3,700 individuals who have been approved for citizenship and awaiting swearing-in.
    2) There is no information at this time about when interviews will resume at this office, but the District Director has informed us that only approximately 20% of local staff will be working on-site at any time, and that remote interviews are being conducted.
    3) Interviews of Diversity Visa applicants will be prioritized to that they can have their interviews before Sep 30.

I am admittedly least knowledgable here on this forum but are you sure she can file a new application? If the application has been denied on grounds of lack of moral character, she might have to wait five years until the statute expires.

lesly87 reacted to bsp in N-400 denied
If she were convicted of something serious, then yes she would wait 5 years to "cleanse" her record and establish a period of good moral character.  In this case, it was a misdemeanor and she was denied (correctly) because an application can't be approved during a probationary period.  With that now satisfied, the IO will assess her moral character again and given it was only misdemeanor plus the fact that she has the prosecutor and police chief as character witnesses should make it a pretty easy decision for the IO.
