Yes, it does. I have been tracking a few cases in addition to mine and I was notified when they got approved.

At least he's paying his taxes, unlike a lot of legal residents who aren't. He is not in a relationship with his petitioner, so he's not required to live with or near her plus she's in college so it shouldn't matter.
OP might want to keep all those tax records for his interview as it will be brought up and will look good on his part for paying taxes illegal or not.

Almost sure it got approved because OP checked that his fiance is/was single.
Had he check divorced, USCIS would've requested proof of an annulment or divorce decree.
It was approved under false pretense or misleading info provided.

The same forms will be fine. The rejection was just for the check date.

Your date should be written as
June 05, 2016 OR 06/05/2016.
Rule of thumb is MONTH, DAY, YEAR exactly in that order. Hope is helps.
