Hi Fellow VJ's i need help as i can't seem to wait for Monday to call USCIS office.

We received our AOS application forms today in the mail with attached green rejection noticed. It said to read the attached paper that includes the reason as to why is being sent back to us. So it said that our check payment is not up to date or too advanced. I am confused as to what to put in our personal checks, before we sent out our application i made sure to read the instructions on how to fill the checks. It said to put Day/Month/Year and that's what we did we put 05/10/2016 (the same day we sent our application).

What did we do wrong? did we put down the wrong date or the wrong format? we sent out our application last May 10, 2016 so we put 10/05/2016 in our checks. What is the right format? and if we will send the forms tomorrow which is june 05 2016, what date should we put in our checks?

This is bothering me the whole day. we just lost 3 weeks waiting for nothing. :(

Adjusting from B1/B2 Visa:

07/01/2015 - Arrived at San Francisco (b1/b2)

10/28/2015 - Ended our 9 years of dating and got hitched.

Our Never ending Visa/Immigration Journey begins:

06/06/2016 - AOS package sent to Chicago Lockbox via FEDEX

06/18/2016 - NOA 1 (receipt)

07/15/2016 - Biometrics

07/25/2016 - RFE (for I-864 joint sponsor)

09/07/2016 - Responded to RFIE

09/09/2016 - USCIS will received our Docs (as per USPS, no update yet)

So which one did you write? 05/10/2016 or 10/05/2016? You claim to have written both.

The format in the US is Month/Day/Year.

Where did you find instructions on how to fill out the checks?

Write the month out in words. Forget trying to figure the format out...

Hey Emily,

Your date should be written as

June 05, 2016 OR 06/05/2016.

Rule of thumb is MONTH, DAY, YEAR exactly in that order. Hope is helps.

Good luck!

So which one did you write? 05/10/2016 or 10/05/2016? You claim to have written both.

The format in the US is Month/Day/Year.

Where did you find instructions on how to fill out the checks?

Thank you. I found the instructions in a link from here. I even took a screenshot of it just to make sure we will not make any mistake. I guess we followed the wrong instruction because it said there to make sure to put DAY first not the month. Oh well. Last question though, our forms have some marks like short signature with stamped date and some electronic prints in it. Do we send the same forms again or we need to start all over?

Thank you so much.

I think you can resend the same forms with the new check and a short note of apology about the mixup. Good luck! :)

Can you post the link or the screenshot? If the information on it is incorrect, I'd like to have it changed. Thanks.

All the way down in "please note" number 1.

It says to include day, month and year, op mistakenly took it as the way it should be written... There's a picture of a check in the same link, it's worth a look, if in doubt on how to properly do it.

The same forms will be fine. The rejection was just for the check date.

Great advice!

Should i include all new cover letter for each application again? the USCIS already stapled and divided everything with the notice on top of each Main Application, they took out the cover letters and our plastic form organizer/binder. :)

USA put month first. Then day and year. I would replace the cover letter but leave it sorted the way they have it. They always remove any folders or binders and toss them in garbage. Don't both replacing that.

USA format is MM/DD/YYYY. Your check was dated October 5, 2016 per USA banking rules. The USA is one of the few countries in the world where the month comes first when writing dates.
