So sorry.  If the husband had a VJ account and it's still active, is it possible or advisable to extend condolences through it?

Thanks... and my apologies, I am just seeing this now - 6 months after posting. I am not sure if he still has his VJ account or what his username would be. I'm sorry... :( I will convey the message the next time I speak to him.  We live in different states now and I am not sure when I'll get the chance to talk to him.

I wish I could turn back time and appreciate our loved ones more.

  2. A friend of mine, who started her Visa Journey a year before my husband started his (both from the same country) passed away from cancer a few weeks ago.  She leaves behind a beautiful 5 year old daughter.

Her husband used the valuable resources on this site to bring my friend over via the K-1 route. About a year later, she was diagnosed with cancer and it has been a 5 year battle.

I miss my friend so much and I know she's in a better place with her light shining down on us. She was a Christian and I hope that wherever she may be, she is in a place of unconditional love.  I am sad for her daughter because she will grow up not really knowing her mom.

Hug your loved ones... this is a reminder that everything in this life is temporary. All of our struggles, pain, good moments, and even life itself is just temporary.  Learn to be grateful of the things you have and appreciate the wonders and happy moments life throws your way.

Congrats, that's awesome news! I also have my oath at ATL office next week (4th) and was wondering how long the ceremony is. I have an important meeting on the same day and was thinking if I need to reschedule my meeting or not.. how long was your ceremony and can I leave the venue as soon as I get the Naturalization cert based on your experience? Thanks!

My apologies, I have not logged on here since I made my post.

How did your oath ceremony go? Yes, it was quick.

  4. My husband had his oath ceremony in Atlanta, GA on Feb 19th. Everything went well. He registered to vote and applied for his US passport the same day.  They said it would take 6 - 8 weeks for the passport to arrive. Since they took his naturalization certificate and sent it into the DOS to make his passport, they gave him a photocopy and said that the original cert will be returned in the mail with his new passport. He is excited to vote in this upcoming presidential election.

Our visa journey, which started on 7/31/2013 with filling out an I-130 and applying for an IR-1 to bring him back to the US, to POE and receiving green card on 7/14/2014, to applying for naturalization on 9/1/2019 has finally come to an end! whew!

Thank you, Visa Journey for invaluable help, every step of the way. Thank you for saving us almost $5K in lawyer fees because we did everything on our own.

  5. My spouse is taking an Uber to get to the Atlanta ASC to do his biometrics. His appointment is Monday morning.  However, I read on yelp that they make you take your phone and bag back to your car. You can't enter the building with a cell phone.

Since he doesn't have a car, where does he put his phone? He can't leave it at home because he needs it to Uber back home. Do they have lockers there?

  6. Wow! I just saw this message after a year. I do not know why I created multiple accounts?  I guess I was having some logon trouble?

I have one more account named "SkySofiaLila" and I was wondering if that could be merged with "PallasAthena" and if I can keep the name "PallasAthena"? Thanks and sorry for the hassle. (For some reason, I cannot log into my old SkySofiaLila account.

  7. Look at this timeline and read the description for the consulate in case you do not get the waiver approved: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=180228

    - Previously, I had a J1 visa, subject to the 2-year rule. I took my old passports, job contracts, and their translations to the consulate, as a proof that I worked in Brazil for the 2 years. However, I was NEVER asked to provide any proof of completion of that obligation.

  8. Sorry for not being clear beforehand.

My husband received his passport with visa today. The "registration number" is an 8 digit number that is different from the alien registration number on the NOA2. The one on the NOA2 begins with the letter "A" while the "registration number" on the IR-1 visa contains no letters.

On the ELIS site, it asks for the A number. However, would that just be the "registration number" on the IR-1 preceded by the letter "A"? We're unsure how to proceed on this one.

    Thanks!

  9. Just wait about 3 - 4 weeks but I read that the SS card usually takes a few days to arrive (5 - 10 days) and it comes before the actual green card arrives.

What was your point of entry into the US?

Was it easy? difficult? harassment level high?

    obrigada!

  10. People!

Between NOA1 and NOA2 I waited only 32 days. I got NOA2 last night. Today we received an email about my interview date. The total process took only 3 months. Did you see some case so fast like this before, or was I lucky?

I find it disheartening when people who get approved quickly come on here to gloat and rub everyone's nose in it - especially people who have been waiting months and months at whatever service center they're at.

  11. He had the interview and has been approved. CEAC says "issued". We're waiting for it to arrive by mail but who knows how long that will take in his country, which is why I am asking. Everyone on VJ says "wait till the visa is in hand" so that we can pay the "immigrant fee". The A# is asked on a few forms needed for the NVC and is on the NOA2.

I'm not asking whether or not one can immigrate. I'm asking whether given our circumstances, why do we need to wait for the visa to be in hand before we pay the "immigrant fee"? Can we go ahead and pay it now, again, given what I've just told you?

  12. As far as I know, if you don't reside in the US, you're not eligible for a green card. Not sure how long you can keep contacting the NVC on a yearly basis. This is something you'd probably have to ask them.

One option is to stay in the US and continue working in Canada. After 3 years, you can apply for US Citizenship (if that's what you wish) and then move to Canada with the liberty of going back and forth between the two countries as much as you want.
