    Hi VJ Community ,

I just checked my case status online and it said that on July 22,2019 they scheduled an interview for my wife and that we should be expecting a letter in the mail in the next few days.

I receive email notifications images of what's coming in the mail to me through the post office , I checked my email and sure enough there is a USCIS letter addressed to my wife that should be arriving today or on Monday .

My wife is in Russia visiting her mother who is very ill, my wife has a return flight to the USA on August 24,2019.

Is there a chance that USCIS has scheduled the interview before Aug. 24 ?

The pdf copy of the interview appt should show up on your acct anytime soon. Mine showed up after 3 days.  The mailed in copy came after 7 days. I am assuming for all local service centers (and maybe I'm wrong), but at least for the JAX Service Center, the interview appt date is 33-36 days after online notification (interview dates though were mostly at 35-36 days).  So just wait for that appt letter before you decide if you want to re schedule or not. Good luck!

Should I tell my wife to change her return date back to the United States as soon as possible?

Do you think we have enough time ?

I really don't want to hurry my wife back because of her mother who is not doing good, want to give her as much time with her mother but I also don't want to risk missing the interview .

    Thoughts or suggestions ?

How long is it taking to get the Naturalization Certificate back after your passport arrives? We did a regular application process and my husband’s passport arrived on July 15th. Still have yet to see his certificate back...

Looks like around 7 days after you get the passport (acc to passport timelines here). Do you have USPS Informed Delivery? My nat cert mail showed in the email as mail with no image or something.

My online application status changed from "The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 07/01/2019. We are processing Routine Applications in approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the time of application."
    to
"We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents."

Does this mean they should be mailing my passport soon? I am traveling outside the country on 8/11 and need my passports before that. Should I expedite at this point?

    Thank you!

On average, you would expect to receive your passport 24 days after application for non expedited applications. The longest I seen so far from the above data is 31 days. If the processing remained the same, you should get your passport back before your trip. knock on wood.

  4. @afrocraftI forgot to mention that I rarely looked at my egov acct so the notification I keep mentioning here is text notification. I was always confused by that 'in line for oath' that everyone keeps mentioning about bec i dont see that in my text. Anyways, I always go to myUSCIS acct because it's where we applied and submitted the n-400.

my egov online notifications are not as straightforward as @dilip. mine was qual review, in line, qual review (all same dates though) then scheduled...

OK, so it's just a change in online status, not a written notice? My online statuses are a little contradictory: egov says a quality review is ongoing, while myuscis says approved.

Congratulations! Mine was the same. Just go with your myuscis notification, That egov notification won't change until your oath date has been scheduled. I got my oath notification 46 days after interview. i even called them after 30 days bec I was worried about that qual review but they assured me that there were no flags and to just wait for the oath notification.

    During  citizenship interview

    1. Do I have to answer the civic questions as is in the study guide.

If I forget not an important "word"  would my answer treated as incorrect.

for example for the following question can I answer "zoning and land use"

if the question is: 'who can vote?' It has to be '18 years old AND older'. I remember someone here in VJ aswered '18 yrs old' and the IO said wrong.

           42. Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?
                 • provide schooling and education
                 • provide protection (police)
                 • provide safety (fire departments)
                 • give a driver’s license
                • approve zoning and land use

    2. Do I have to tell all the answers to a question when there are multiple answers in the study guide

    for example

             16. Who makes federal laws?
                     • Congress
                     • Senate and House (of Representatives)
                     • (U.S. or national) legislature

Another issue is that we don't have our new apartment in Minnesota until Sept 2, meaning that we'll be "homeless" for about a week while we make the drive and get temporary accommodations until we can move in.  So I cant change the mailing address to the Minnesota apartment until then...

I'm not sure what to do.

What I'm thinking right now is to look into getting a post office box, but I'm not sure if that kind of mail can be delivered to a PO Box?

Instead of a PO Box, go to your local UPS/Fedex/PakMail etc store. They lease mailboxes with street address instead of a PO Box. May cost around $12/month with minimum lease of 6 months.

What should I answer to this question "Have you EVER claimed to be a U.S. citizen (in writing or any other way)?" I didn't check the boxes but I did sign on the bottom of the voter registration card.

I think by signing that form, you swore that you fit the requirements to register to vote (e.g., USC) even if you didn't check the box. So YES in my opinion. Here's a sample Voters Registration form assuming they're the same everywhere.

    https://www.nonprofitvote.org/documents/2016/04/filling-returning-voter-registration-forms.pdf/

That being said, here is one forum conversation that can give you some hope:

    https://www.***removed***/forum/usa-citizenship/132884-permanent-resident-registered-to-vote

but then again, this was in 2015.

If I did what you've done and still want to naturalize, I would apply via paper form so I can explain everything and attach all evidence as suggested by allaboutwaiting. Good luck!

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  9. At the bottom of the biometrics appointment letter, there is a check box if you want to request for rescheduling with your application number and bar code below it.

    REQUEST FOR RESCHEDULING
❏ Please reschedule my appointment. Once USCIS receives your request, you will be sent a new appointment notice. Make a copy of this notice for your records, then mail the original with your request to BPU, Alexandria ASC, Suite 100, 8850 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309-1586

If you have any questions regarding this notice, please call 1-800-375-5283.

Looking around VJ, biometrics appointments are typically scheduled within three weeks of N-400 application. If the appointment is before your return, there is no harm in your husband calling on your behalf too. They'll just say no if it's not possible.  The important thing though is that your husband receives the biometrics appt letter and sends it back for rescheduling.

unless I marry a US citizen I guess lol which is not an option for me lol

it'll be a little bit more difficult to immigrate to the US without immediate relatives, a graduate degree from a US university, nursing degree or any other employer petition... unless you're worldwide/countrywide famous in your field or have the required money for investment.

How about trying your luck with countries with points based immigration like Canada?

  11. Did you sign up for email notification? They'll send email updates and tracking number for the passport book.

No tracking for the passport card and naturalization certificate but they did show up on USPS Informed Delivery as mail  from Portsmouth, NH (passport card) and mail with no image (nat cert). In my case the passport card came 2 days after passport book. The nat cert came 2 days after passport card. I did expedited processing.

    Nope. He had no idea.

I'm sorry if I'm going to be a little bit optimistic but I bet you'll have an interview by end of August. if not, welcome to the top 10% slowest biometrics to n400 interview club! I'll be surprised if you reached 189 days like I did. Since it's Jax for you, they'll make it up by giving your oath immediately.

I have the second slowest n-400 JAX applic I've seen so far here in VJ at 303 days. Slowest was 304 days. I doubt that you'll reach our numbers.

Well, was supposed to have my interview today. When they called me up, they had to cancel as they haven’t received my I751.

    Sorry to hear about that.

I wonder if it's possible to call once in a while and ask if JAX already has your packet?

When I did my consular processing in 2013, I went ahead and rescheduled the interview appt that NVC gave me, not knowing that NVC sends the orig packet to the embassy. Even at that time I thought that they just scan the whole thing and sends the embassy a pdf file or gives online access to a file. When I went on the rescheduled date,  an embassy personnel immediately told me that the packet isn't there yet and gave me a phone number to call  I ask them if they won't mind me calling every Fri. Three Fridays later,  my packet arrived so I was able to schedule to a still earlier date than the orig.

I hope your packet is on its way to JAX already and have your interview soon!

    Best wishes.

I applied for GE second week of May this year after I received my US passport, until now I'm still waiting for conditional approval.

Based on the website, it will take up to 11 weeks to get the conditional approval. I don't mind waiting for 11 weeks since I will be traveling internationally this coming November

Hopefully I will get the conditional approval this months so I can schedule the interview right away, and I like the fact that they are open as early as 7am at the JFK airport, so I will schedule my interview there that time before going to work. :)

I think I just got lucky that it was too early in the year for people to think about their summer travel plans and get GE.

At least you'll start at a major airport where there will be a TSA Pre lane anytime of the day! I first used TSA Pre last May on a late afternoon flight with not much passengers left going through security.  No more TSA Pre lane so I still have to remove everything! TSA couldn't be bothered to give me and my luggages or anyone with this benefit a tag or an ID or something so my luggage can just go through the same xray without removing m anything. O well, now I know.

on top of this and getting the new passport ,  we were both going to get the global entry from TSA

i just looked at the site and saw this

Has anyone done the global entry and know if it is worth it?

The extended partial government shutdown has resulted in a substantial backlog of CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) applications and renewals.

Congrats! That red warning was already there when I applied in Feb. I thought I had to wait for a long time but I got my conditional approval in 7 days. Your problem might be getting an appt to your closest global entry center. Good thing this is not a problem in Orlando. Google 'global entry appointment schedule' to look at different locations and how booked those offices are . Good luck!

I just applied for the transit visa and it was 7 dollars. Was approved. Was very stressful because I didn’t know I needed a visa for a connecting flight! Thanks all!

That's great! You don't have to worry about the ETA for the next 5 years unless your current passport expires or if you still don't have a US passport.

Even for a connecting flight? Not even entering the country from outside the airport. I am literally there for 6 hours in the airport connecting flights area till I can catch my plane to USA on a K1 visa

It says transiting... unless you have passport from Indonesia Philippines Thailand Taiwan
