antifa didn't trash charlottesville when they were there defending peaceful protestors against nazis..they protected religious leaders as the police stood by and did nothing. i don't buy the whole conservative push to demonize antifa.
anyway, antifa isn't that big of an organization. trump is just using them to scare people. oddly enough, nazis and other assorted racist groups don't seem to bother conservatives anymore.
they haven't gone away. and they're not anti police.

Because i actually have a Pixel that streams various news articles based on my Google searches on phone and desktop.

When the subject of Donald trump comes up...I've gotten articles from the extreme right , extreme left ,and everything in the middle.

Conservatives(and especially Trump fans) need to stop crying about this scumbag leader. Hes portrayed negatively in the news because he was and still is a negative candidate, who ran on a purely negative platform.

It's not just minimum wage, it's all wages. They are fairly stagnant and do not keep up with other market factors. Things cost more, and the more they cost, the less money you have in your pocket, whether you work minimum wage or not. I think the overall point of the piece was that it's getting harder out there to afford rent, and there's a variety of economic reasons why. Rent prices are being driven up, as well as housing prices. That's not propaganda, that's a fact.

My husband and I are lucky enough to each own a house before marriage... but where is the discussion if you have a child and decide to continue to work.

We are trying to figure out where we are eventually going to squeeze an additional $2,000 (ish) a month for day care costs into the budget, so we can both continue to work..

Even above minimum wage you can't live on your own.  I make well above minimum wage but well below what is affordable even for a 1 bedroom apartment in a shitty neighborhood where I may get shot.  Without my husband I would never afford to live on my own in this state.  It's not like I don't have a lot of work experience that's relatable to a variety of jobs.  15 years of customer service....   Granted I could go be a dishwasher for more than I make now, but I certainly wouldn't have room to grow.  The number of jobs where you make $30/hr isn't exactly overwhelming either. The most I've seen for starter positions in a 1 hr drive radius is $15/hr.   Generally they start out at $11 or $12.  Burger King pays experienced night managers $18/hr.  That's still not enough to rent a 1 bedroom apartment here on your own, let alone a 2 bedroom plus a kid or two and child care because you aren't home at night.

Funny story is that I could easily afford to live on my own in Canada making only slightly more than I am now, not double what I am now.

    that's awesome for her.
did you check the wage that would be required to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in your area? it's easy to say minimum jobs aren't meant to be a career and i agree with you, but it really means nothing in the grand scheme of things for working families trying to maintain a household.

There are plenty of people that don't work minimum wage, have what I'd think anyone would consider a good job, and still can't afford housing and there are many factors involved in this. I don't directly see the headline as a dig at Trump, only that there are not all aspects of this economy that are working well or are 'great'. Nevermind the Sanders thing, as I personally think he has about as much understanding of economics as Trump himself.

We shouldn't expect that minimum wage can be utilized to afford rent, however there are many persons in situations that have to do just that. Those that are going to a technical college or other college to learn a better new skill, are likely also going to be in a minimum wage bracket, and if they aren't, and are lucky enough to find a job making above that, it's very likely in this economy they still cannot afford housing. One reason why kids with families are moving in with parents, and parents are moving in with kids.

Well I know from experience that rent is far too high, not only in my current county, but also into the next state over. That is certainly not to say that there are places where rent is lower. In that regard you would have to move to areas that are considered unsafe, rat infested, and lacking some amenities such as an extra bedroom or a W/D.

It's one of the reasons we've elected to not move yet. However, he's applied for another promotion, and if successful that should be more than enough to move somewhere decent. But largely, we've been talking these days about renting vs home ownership, and for our needs it would be overwhelmingly better to buy our first home. That's what my best friend did, and she certainly successfully did it on one income. We've worked hard to build credit, and I think it's a good option for us too.

He's had to sit in on governor's meetings discussing the rental/housing situation for the state. While wages are low and inflation is high and that's very problematic, a bigger problem is overinflated prices in general, lack of space vs demand, and in the more populous areas there are multiple colleges which take up a great deal of housing space and drive costs up. Rent in developing areas are even very high for businesses. This is not a new thing even, and is steadily been increasing. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/06/rent-is-too-expensive/396971/ It is not entirely due to credit card debt. There many be some that yes will have difficulties obtaining credit especially since banks are becoming wary of past practices where loans were handed out like candy. Not enough rental housing is being built, and not enough people are deciding to buy vs rent. Housing prices too have soared once again, and are likely overinflated. Only a few cities has rental prices dropped a bit, that is usually due to more places being built. However the downside is many of these are luxury buildings and not anything that offers decent basic housing that would fit the average person's needs.

It's great that she found a P/T job like that but that wouldn't be enough for her to rent on her own if you weren't around. My husband was only able to get P/T initially and certainly made more than your wife, but that still wouldn't be enough to afford rent. Even with his current F/T working from 7-5:30 + overtime it's not enough. And he has what I'd consider a pretty sweet job. We could do it, yes, but we'd be struggling, living in a bad area, and likely be limited to a studio apartment. No skill required jobs even at F/T in this area simply would not pay a person enough money to afford rent, not even if that job offered good insurance.

So we have NFL protests during the anthem (let's call them), we have a few celebrities speaking out about the sincerity of Trump's condolences to McCain, and we have the "entire" media taking a unified stance on both issues and ... sorry .... I don't see the link between all this. I don't even think the assertion (by Posobiec) is correct to begin with. Even if he was correct about the media, it's two different issues.

I believe the issue players are raising is criminal justice reform. You can certainly make a good argument that the venue is inappropriate. If veterans feel disrespected, I do understand that, but there are also other veterans who say they served to protect freedom of speech, which includes the right to protest. There is no way to make the case that the protest itself has ever been directed at veterans or any aspect of military service. That is simply not true.

But you are aware when you take a citizenship oath, you must ''absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen''. This oath virtually holds about as much weight as the Pledge itself, as in reality you will never be forced to actually do what the oath says.

Forced patriotism is not freedom. The right to dissent and the right not to dissent if a person so chooses to of their own free will. If we do not exercise our rights thereof, what good are they? A person who does not state a pledge (which did not get invented until the very late 1800s and has been changed a bit and taken away from it's original intent) or stand for a song does not make them any more or any less of an American. It does not make them a better American than another. We are, if anything, a people full of principles. Some are unwilling to compromise on those principles, no matter how much someone disagrees with it. The founders would have whole-heartedly supported those who dissent, and would have likely been greatly troubled by forced patriotism.

Sure thing. SCOTUS has been pretty clear on it anyway.

I would rather someone not say the pledge than have them recite it without meaning. The latter just breeds resentment.

I recall in school with the lords prayer one year, our teacher just asked those who did not wish to say it to remain silent for that time frame out of respect to others. Not a perfect solution, but better than forcing people who did not want to join in.

I just asked my son to recite it and we were focused on the "liberty and justice for all" part. If you force someone to recite a pledge, you have lost that part of it. If the pledge of allegiance does not come from the heart, there is no meaning to the words. I would not ever force someone to say it. Hopefully I could instead give reason to convince them why it is important to those who do recite it.

Dissent against the pledge has been around for ages. Many refuse for a variety of reasons, all closely held and well-protected beliefs and reasons.

Not based on agreeing or disagreeing, but more so on prejudice or intolerance of others beliefs. People can definitely be bigoted against other people because of their religion. Not just Christianity either. I think we've seen several examples with other religions as well.

First of all it is understandable that words don't have meaning without context also words have different meanings within different communities. Take that word redneck, you say it is a racially beaming word but you will hear it used more often by the whites living in rural areas in the south as well as the word white trash. They don't use this word among themselves because they are derogatory against themselves. To them that word redneck has a different meaning is if a black person was to use it. So the same goes with the N-word or the word fa***t among the gay community.

We all know and understand that regardless of how we see, understand, or view certain words that it is normal actually for certain groups of people to use the words that are derogatory in an ironic fashion. So why is their so much hand ringing when black people do it?

I have a lot of gay friends and whenever we are out and about I will often hear them use the term fa***t a lot but I personally don't join in and use the word. Just like when I was in a Biology group project in college and one of my partners introduced his friends as my red neck buddy, I didn't then refer to that individual as a red neck. And most importantly I would never have the desire to do so. Its really that simple.

As complicated as you want to make it, their is really a lot to be learned from refraining.
