OMG I'm in shock friends!!! The letter that came in the mail today from USCIS is my wife's extension letter!! Indeed it's an 18 month extension.
 
I'm sooo happy right now!
 
The only little bad news is that only one letter came for my wife and nothing for my two stepsons. So Monday morning I'll probably be calling in to see about theirs.

OMG, the letter is the extension letter! Wow!! That was sooo fast!! They received our packet last Friday.
 
But yes, nothing for my two stepsons. So I'll probably be calling in on Monday and see what they say about that.

Go figures, I believe they have scripts they're supposed to read off to answer certain questions. It's like a "catch all" response.
 
Don't worry, wait until your 30 day mark, and then you can submit a service request online for the NOA.

Quick update: I'm able to view our case status on both the "new" myUSCIS and "old" Case Status websites.

Update: my check was converted to an electronic draft and it's clearing my account with today's date, 1/30/19

I went online to the USCIS Case Status webpage just to check and guess what, I was able to get a status.
 
Just says they received it on 1/25 and they sent a receipt notice. If not received by 2/24 to call the USCIS contact center.

I have WACxxxxxxx receipt number. Anyone in the same boat?

My wife's I-751 Application was received at the Arizona Lockbox on December 6, 2018. She got an e-mail on December 13 with the receipt number for California Service Center. Her 2 year GC expired on December 29. I sent an service request online on 1/23/19 that we have not received the extension letter. USCIS California Service Center responded on 1/24 that a new letter was mailed to our address. Today my informed mail showed the extension letter would be delivered today just in time for our trip to Mexico this weekend. Thank God!!!!!! Now we can finally relax until it is time to file for her citizenship the end of this year.

Yes, 90% of the time they ‘forget’ about the kids. 
They are I751A and they will have their own case number so if you get your wife’s extension letter and haven’t received the kids within a month from that then give them a call and get their case number and they will sent out the extension (hopefully) 

The last part of your post made me giggle.  I fastened mine and bent them back to ensure nothing fell loose (I sent in an extra fastener for USCIS).  Then I put an elastic band around it, and when I got to FedEx, the clerk put the package in a bag and taped it before putting it in the box.  It’ll be like opening a Christmas present:  here, unwrap my life and take a look.
