We did exactly the same.. it’s not best case scenario but it happens. You need to file for adjustment of status i485 along with i30, i765 so that you can work while waiting for your application to be processed and advanced parole i131 so that you can travel out of the country. It’s better if you don’t leave the USA before getting your advanced parole document that allows you to return to the US. Overstaying your visa is excused if you are applying for adjustment of status so I wouldn’t worry about that. Check out my timeline. Good luck

The place was empty !!! Apart from 2 people currently being fingerprinted .. I told him I work next door so I would very much rather do my biometrics in NYC and i will be out of the country on my FP date but no shits were given :/ I mean I would understand if they were busy but they were absolutely not :/

Snorlux got a reaction from Naes in Transferring funds over 10k
Just an FYI, there are a bunch of banks that offer free incoming wire transfers but these are mostly online banks. I know Schwab bank, Ally Bank, Discover bank just to name a few that have free incoming wire transfers.

Even for traditional banks you can go with Chase, TD Bank, Bank of America or Citibank. All of them charge a flat $15-18 for incoming wire transfers which is better than a 3% charge on $10000.

I am curious does your green card say "CR1" under the place where it says "category" and you still got a 10 year green card? or did they Accidentally issue your green card under the category of "IR1"?

We didnt do it to adjust status and apologies if I misunderstood. In any case it's not wrong or against the law to get married on a tourist visa a lot of people come to the USA, get married and then leave so I wouldn't worry.

Snorlux got a reaction from little immigrant in What banks allow authorized users on Credit Cards without a SSN?
Chase might have changed their requirements. I remember a year ago they were asking for SSN but now they do not - for credit cards though. I added my father who lives in a foreign country as an authorized user in case I want them to buy something from me from back home or if I want to pay for anything and they only asked me for first name last name date of birth and address.

Also Amex doesn't ask for SSN if you request an authorized user through the customer service chat or phone call.

In regards to checking accounts, before i got my SSN I was able to open an account with my wife (US Citizen) at Citibank. They only wanted to see my passport.

I think "living" or "working" legally in the USA is not the same as residing.. to be a resident you need to have a "permanent resident card" .. If you have a work authorization card then you are a non-immigrant that is bound to leave the USA at some point whereas a green card holder is not - i might be wrong on the explanation here;)  So the three years count from the time you became a resident - got a green card. If in doubt, you can always send an application and see if USCIS sends it back to you. Then you will know for sure that it's too early

Happens to everyone. The first Receipt number you get doesn't work anywhere. When you get your biometrics letter, it will have another receipt number that works  Also, when you get your biometrics letter, if the status online says anything like "we received your application and waived your application fees" again don't worry, most of us here received the same status.. seems to be a glitch in USCIS's systems!

I love how everybody says that "helping with the baby" is considered work.. I guess I need to start asking for money every time I do something nice about my brother/sister etc..
Imagine your family comes over and they are not allowed to freaken touch the baby or change its diaper cause its considered work.. that just sounds crazy to me. It's like going over to your sister for dinner and helping with the dishes.. its not work.. work is doing something for profit..
from what i've seen on lawyer websites etc "volunteering" is allowed on a tourist visa.. I would consider this volunteering and not "work" ..
helping without profit = volunteering = not work on a tourist visa = legal.
