  1. How easy is it for the average person in China to get a tourist visa to come here?

Far from guaranteed, but very many are granted.

In the old days before the 10 year visas, women used to have to hide their pregnancies under loose clothing, etc. and make up some touristy reason for travelling to the US. No longer necessario -- now they simply get their visa whilst unpregnant, and have ten years to become pregnant and come here as a "tourist." What could be easier?

  2. It's always a plethora of headlines when the right wing echo chamber lights up. One of them blogs posts some nonsense and everyone - including Fox News - picks it up and runs with it. None of them ever bothers to check or verify anything. If they like what they see, they run with it. That's how it works. And that's why it's always a good idea to look into any claims they make. Usually turns out to be garbage.

Like the left and MSNBC doesn't do the same thing.

Most bloggers/radio talk show hosts feed off each other. I was listening to Thom Hartmann today, same kind of drivel coming from the left.

    Exactly.

  3. demographics research - hey ! you gotta start somewhere !

and speaking of starting somewhere (with apologies o thread-hijaak) - did exExpat get the boot or leave us?

No, it looks like a name change -- check out xxClosedxx in the thread on the Jordanian king - unless that is how closed or suspended accounts appear on this site.

He is your brother, lives in the same town, and everything. You should be letting us know. I think there was some Admin action. Suspension maybe?

As far as I can see, he has nothing to warrant a suspension, and I hope he has not left voluntarily.

  4. That would hardly work. Thing is that political leaders in several other developed countries don't have term limits and they get sh!t done. The state of corruption in this country - at thirds world levels, really - stems from the undue influence that money has on the political process. The ludicrous idea that money is free speech and that corporations are people - a view the highest court of this nation holds - is what tears at the fabric of the country. Term limits my #######. We have term limits for every elected office here in FL and yet this is one of the most corrupt states in the nation.

But certainly the less time in office, the less time to collect bribes and coddle special interests, no?

Also don't forget you can get shyt done and still be corrupt. Many people in all parts of the world are, unfortunately, OK with that.

  5. You would think borrowing 50,000 to go to a school someone would spend a few minutes of research to see these were not good schools. I am glad the government took the step of getting these schools closed down. I wish they would stop giving loans and grants to students of other schools that charge way to much compared to what they offer - looking directly at you University of Phoenix, Apollo, and ITT.

From the Wall street Journal (quoted on WP): "In February 2015, ECMC, a non-profit education firm, took ownership of more than half of Corinthian Colleges' campuses. ECMC also agreed to forgive student debt on Corinthian College's Genesis loans after a series of years"

Why school assets were not taken and sold and used to pay the students debts owed to the government is beyond me.. Someone was able to walk away with the cash while the schools went to another set of owners.

I think it is not just the "for profit" schools that are a scam. Prestigious private and state universities charge much more than the costs of education, and their tuitions go up much more than the rate of inflation each year. They are immune from the state of the economy and market forces, and the government facilitates this by continuing to lend students money for these endless increases. Universities answer to no one, and are not truly non-profit either. Take a look at their endowments and building and development funds, for example. With not-so-creative accounting, this vast amount of money is going somewhere.

  6. I'm almost of the opinion that Iran should be allowed to have nuclear weapons. I believe that eventually most countries will have nukes and they will be used again, it's only a matter of time. I won't be surprised if they have nuclear weapons before Obama is out of office.

Just because most countries will have nukes eventually doesn't mean shouldn't try to stop (or slow) certain countries from obtaining them.

  7. There is not even a consensus that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. If you discount all the crazy talk by Netanyahu, then at worst Iran has the capacity to make a bomb, or at least is heading in that direction, and at best, Iran is doing exactly what they are saying they are doing, that is an active research program focused on medical uses and power generation.

Why would one of the world's most oil-rich nations need another source of power generation? Get real. We all know what they are up to.

  8. I said nothing untrue. Anyone who enters the borders illegally, or overstays in these borders is a criminal. That is not slander. That is the truth!

    slander
    [ ˈslandər ]
    NOUN
the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation

    I agree.

This is an outrage that I am afraid won't be corrected in our lifetime. Political correctness gone amok. All those illegals will eventually vote Democratic. And if by some miracle they suddenly closed off the southern border, but still made it exceedingly difficult for legitimate foreign spouses, undoubtedly people in your shoes would still be very unhappy.
